A Righteous Female Knight Never Compromises!-Chapter 24 : Promotion seems to be easier than imagined

{Chapter 24} Promotion seems to be easier than imagined
"This… everyone has heard about it…"
The smile on Anna's face disappeared. Previously, Anna hadn't felt much about it. But now, she truly realized how explosive it was for the young ladies of two noble families to have the same partner.
"Remember to bring your two wives to dinner later, okay?" After teasing a few words, Gianna's gaze turned to Atala.
"Don't tell me Miss Atala is also…"
"No, no, no, not at all! Just comrades-in-arms!"
Anna quickly denied, and Atala also shook her head hurriedly. Gianna's words even made Atala's long ears turn red with embarrassment.
"Just comrades-in-arms, huh…" Gianna rubbed her chin, "But coming from Anna now, it feels surprisingly unconvincing."
"Why is it unconvincing!"
Anna was at a loss for words.
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you." Gianna took out a pocket watch and checked the time, "Since we still have some time, I’ll take you to the promotion room."
"Then I’ll leave it to you!"
It was quite a walk to the promotion room, so Gianna took the opportunity to ask:
"Anna, where are you living now?"
"I’m… temporarily staying at Helga’s house." Anna blinked a few times, "Helga is…"
"I know, I know, the heir of the Bartham family, right?" Gianna interrupted Anna’s explanation, "I’m not that clueless. Besides, after your news broke out, our dormmates have been gathering a lot of information. We know the basics."
"Is that so…"
"Then when everyone in our dorm is free, I’ll come to your place and call you out for dinner."
"…Sure, but remember to go to the opposite side of the Bartham mansion."
"…Opposite the mansion?"
Gianna was stunned, as if trying to figure out what was opposite the mansion.
"Isn’t that the haunted house?"
"It’s not a haunted house… it’s my family’s ancestral property." Ever since Anna found out that place was rumored to be a haunted house, she knew people would think it was one. "It was previously managed by the Bartham family, but now it’s returned to its rightful owner."
"…Your family actually has a house in the middle layer of the capital?" Gianna was quite surprised, "You’re not as destitute as you made it sound."
"All thanks to my girlfriends’ support, otherwise, where would I get the money to renovate it…"
"True, you’ve got two big backers."
As Anna chatted with Gianna, she also kept an eye on Atala, who was walking behind her.
Atala’s presence sometimes inexplicably faded, and she often stopped talking once the conversation started.
Although there wasn’t much to talk about most of the time.
Anna was worried Atala might take a wrong turn, so she kept an eye on her to make sure she didn’t suddenly disappear.
Was this strong ability to vanish the reason Atala dared to take on the bounty to assassinate her?
Along the way, they didn’t encounter any students or teachers, but it was class time after all.
"We’re here."
Gianna stopped in front of a rather ordinary-looking door and gently knocked twice.
"Come in."
A male voice came from inside, and Gianna pushed the door open.
"Teacher Scarlet, what’s this?"
"Headmaster, a knight has come for a promotion." Scarlet became serious and made way for Anna and the others.
When Anna walked in, the old headmaster’s eyes lit up:
"Isn’t this Anna? Coming for a promotion after just half a year?"
"Yes… Long time no see, Headmaster Bianka…"
"It seems I wasn’t wrong. You really are the once-in-a-century outstanding student of our Knight Academy." The old headmaster, though robust and amiable with a kind face, had snow-white hair and beard, clearly in his later years. After carefully examining Anna, he nodded with satisfaction.
"And this is…"
"She’s a companion who came with me."
"Then Teacher Scarlet, please take this lady on a tour of the Knight Academy." The old headmaster instructed, "The promotion will take some time."
"Yes!"
After watching Scarlet leave with Atala, the old headmaster took out a set of keys from his drawer.
He walked to a door in the room, unlocked it with the key, and gestured for Anna to enter first.
As soon as Anna stepped into the room, the lights around her instantly lit up. The first thing she saw was a massive crystal, astonishingly large.
Even without actively sensing it, Anna could feel the energy flowing within the crystal.
"Place your hand on the crystal."
The headmaster, holding a cup that had somehow appeared in his hand, took a sip of water and instructed Anna on what to do.
"Like this…?"
Anna tentatively placed her hand on the crystal. Before she could say anything more, her vision was suddenly covered by a white light—
In an instant, a flood of combat techniques poured into Anna’s mind. The sheer volume of knowledge nearly overwhelmed her.
When Anna regained her senses, it seemed as if she had just placed her hand on the crystal, and nothing had happened.
"That’s it." The old headmaster took another sip of water.
"It’s that simple?"
Anna, bewildered, withdrew her hand. But then, a fragment of the crystal suddenly detached and floated in front of Anna.
"Oh?"
Seeing this unusual occurrence, even the old headmaster exclaimed in surprise.
"It seems you can promote anytime, anywhere now."
"Huh?" Anna was still confused about what was happening, "To promote elsewhere, don’t you need to sign some documents…"
"Those are guarantees and waivers for manually detaching the crystal." The old headmaster set the cup aside, "Since the crystal has detached on its own, of course, you don’t need to sign any strange documents."
"And this crystal… where should I put it…"
"Do you have a spatial ring? If not, just put it in your pocket."
"That’s it…"
Anna placed the floating crystal fragment into her spatial ring, still feeling a bit unreal.
But the promotion was just to gain more combat techniques and a higher status… there wouldn’t be any actual increase in power.
"Alright, let’s go out."
The old headmaster waved the keys in his hand, and Anna walked out of the promotion room with a dazed expression.
"What did you think the promotion would be like?" Seeing Anna’s expression, the old headmaster couldn’t help but laugh.
"…I thought there would be some cool magic circle, or maybe some vows or something…"
"Anna, read less fiction. I remember confiscating a novel from you during my rounds, didn’t I?"
"Cough cough…”
