A Righteous Female Knight Never Compromises!-Chapter 9 : Sharing room
{Chapter 9} Sharing room?
Although Anna had visited Helga's house many times as a child, this was her first time entering Helga's study.
The main reason was that Helga had never been particularly fond of the study as a child.
In fact, the only person in the entire Duke's residence who ever entered the study was Duke Darlak himself.
Over time, the study had almost become the Duke's exclusive room. Unless some servants went in to deliver food, clean, or , hardly anyone ever entered the study.
The study was also quite different from the overall decor of the Duke's residence.
The extensive use of white stone and blue decorations finally gave it a bit of the style reminiscent of the Kingdom of Rianved.
However, Anna didn't expect that there was already someone waiting inside the study.
"Mother!" Even Helga was surprised to see the figure sitting in the study. "When did you get back?"
Hasn't Helga been living here recently? How could she not know when her mother returned?
"Just now, I came in through the back door."
Helga's mother was a petite woman with black hair and a slightly tanned complexion. At first glance, one might even mistake her for Helga's younger sister because she looked so delicate.
In terms of height difference, Helga's parents might have a difference of nearly 40 centimeters, which was even more astonishing than the height difference between Anna and Louise.
After all, Louise was only about ten centimeters shorter than Anna...
"Anna, it's been a long time."
She seemed much more serene, creating a stark contrast with Helga.
"Auntie, it really has been a long time..." Anna shrank her neck slightly. Back then, she had been most afraid of Helga's mother because of her imposing presence. Although she looked very serene now, she had scolded Anna and Helga, the two mischievous children, quite a bit in the past. Helga had practically grown up under her mother's strict discipline.
"You don't need to look at me like that. You're a big girl now." Helga's mother couldn't help but smile at Anna's expression. "You're all grown up now, and you should understand things better."
"You're right..." Anna couldn't help but use the respectful form of address and nodded repeatedly.
"Alright, what's with all the standing?"
Darlak carried a chair with one hand and placed it to the side. "Sit down."
Perhaps because Helga's mother was present, Helga didn't dare to continue arguing with her father and obediently sat down on the chair, just like Anna.
...
Feeling the inexplicably cold atmosphere, Anna's heart gradually grew uneasy.
Now that both of Helga's parents were sitting here... were they going to pick on her?
Having read many novels, Anna immediately thought of the plots where the mother-in-law scolds the daughter-in-law in various stories...
Wait, no! If anything, I should be the son-in-law who gets targeted by the girlfriend's father!
...Well, it seems pretty much the same either way.
"Anna."
Helga's mother suddenly spoke, startling Anna out of her thoughts and making her sit up straight.
"How have you been these years? Has it been hard?"
...Huh?
Hearing such a gentle inquiry, Anna was momentarily stunned.
"Well... no need to worry, I've been doing alright."
"Nonsense." Helga's mother scolded with a smile. "We're family now, why are you using such words to brush me off? Ever since you were a child, your ears would turn red when you lied..."
...How do you even know that my ears turn red when I lie?
"Anna, she's been working in the Border Knights, earning only one gold coin a month. She'd be better off becoming an adventurer." Helga took the opportunity to "kick her while she was down."
"Well... it hasn't been great, but it's not that bad either..."
"Working in the Border Knights for just one gold coin a month isn't that bad?" Even Darlak couldn't help but speak up. "If it weren't for the fact that your other girlfriend is the daughter of that old bastard, I'd be grabbing my hammer to settle accounts with him right now."
"Uh..."
Now it's related to Louise...
"Anna, I'm not saying this because I watched you grow up, but I did take care of you for a few years." Darlak began to seize the opportunity. "Tell me, what's wrong with my daughter? In my opinion, you should just break up with that old bastard's daughter. Without all those complicated relationships, the two of you could just be together..."
How am I supposed to respond to this?
Feeling Helga's slightly gleeful gaze from the side, Anna felt cold sweat forming on her forehead.
"Don't scare Anna."
Helga's mother came to Anna's rescue.
"The girl from the Latimir family is quite nice, isn't she? It's normal for Anna to like her. Besides, didn't that girl actively pursue Anna? Doesn't that mean Anna has charm?"
"...Honey, our own daughter is Helga."
Darlak's quiet reminder to his wife had a distinct air of being henpecked.
"What? Now you're not talking about the 'few years of care' anymore?" Helga's mother raised her eyebrows. "Anna has had a hard life, and her parents passed away so early... Sigh, I can't help but think of my good friend..."
"Uncle, Auntie, maybe we shouldn't talk about this...?"
"Alright, alright, let's not talk about it." Darlak also felt awkward and started looking for a new topic. "Anna, are you planning to stay here, or are you going to move back to your old house in the Garland family?"
"If you're planning to move back, I'll have some servants help clean it up. You could move back tonight..."
"What are you doing?" Helga's mother interrupted Darlak again. "That house hasn't been lived in for over a decade. Do you think it can be cleaned in a day? And there's not even a bed in there. Are you planning to have Anna sleep on the floor?"
"Don't listen to this old fool's nonsense. Anna, you'll stay here tonight. You can share a room with Helga. It'll be fine."
"Well... sharing a room isn't really necessary..."
"Who says it's not necessary?" Helga, who had been like a little transparent figure and was a bit jealous of her mother's constant attention on Anna, immediately spoke up. "We'll share a room!"
"Alright! Then we won't arrange a guest room. The two of you can share a room." Darlak didn't dare to say more and directly made the decision, leaving Anna completely dumbfounded.
"Even though you're both girls, living together will help strengthen your bond." Now Helga's mother sounded like a seasoned love expert. "What kind of couple lives in separate rooms? I can see that you two get along well and don't argue. Just live together."
"...You're right."
Anna was both amused and exasperated. While she couldn't resist, she also inexplicably felt a sense of familial warmth that she hadn't experienced in a long time.
