A Righteous Female Knight Never Compromises!-Chapter 21 : Because of poor self-control, simulation does not change this matter at all

{Chapter 21} Because of poor self-control, simulation does not change this matter at all
"Duke Baggs... If I remember correctly, Baggs County..." Anna hesitated, "is quite poor?"
"Indeed, it's the poorest place in the entire kingdom," Helga nodded beside her. "So poor that the annual taxes they pay to the royal family are less than what my fiefdom pays to the old man."
"...A whole county can't match a single earldom?" Anna's eye twitched.
"Not just an earldom, even some of the wealthier towns pay more in vassal taxes to their earls than Baggs County does," Darlak added helpfully.
"...I knew Baggs County was poor, but I didn’t realize it was this poor," Anna felt like this was a new low in her understanding.
"Not only is it poor, but it also has a small population, and the people aren’t very healthy either," Darlak continued. "Even in times of war, Duke Baggs often brings the fewest soldiers."
"So, Duke Baggs holds little standing within the kingdom, just clinging to his inherited Baggs County. And the current Duke Baggs isn’t exactly a remarkable figure either, just an average man," Darlak patiently explained to Anna and Atala.
"The most inconspicuous duke in the kingdom is probably Duke Baggs."
"I see..." Anna nodded, while Atala, still unfamiliar with human society, nodded along in confusion.
"But this guy sent people to ambush you... Does that mean he’s already sided with the pure-blood faction?" After explaining the origins of Duke John Burrito, Darlak fell into deep thought. "It seems he’s trying to gain some influence by aligning with the pure-bloods."
"Though this Duke Baggs... seems like he’s just being used as a scapegoat?" Anna quipped.
"If you can name him right away, then he’s definitely being used as a scapegoat," Helga said, stuffing a sweet into her mouth.
"Though I’m not very familiar with the kingdom’s society... if he’s being used as a scapegoat, then shouldn’t we start investigating from him?" Atala offered her opinion, also popping a sweet into her mouth like Helga. "Even if we might not find much, it’s still necessary to investigate."
"That’s right," Anna nodded. "If we want to bring down Theodore, we can’t overlook any clues."
"Then let’s focus our investigation on Theodore," Helga said, stuffing another sweet into her mouth.
"...Stop eating, dinner’s coming soon," Anna said, looking at Helga’s one-sweet-per-bite pace, feeling like the atmosphere couldn’t stay serious.
"It’s fine, isn’t there a saying that sweets go into a separate stomach..."
As it turned out, Helga really couldn’t eat much that night.
...Finally having her own room in Helga’s house, Anna lay on the large bed, letting out a satisfied sigh.
Though it had been a bit of a "rollercoaster," at least she hadn’t been dragged into doing... anything inappropriate by Helga. This way, maybe the simulation could still bring some new twists.
Her old house, at least when she returned this afternoon, already had some mages and workers renovating it. Judging by the progress, it would probably take the estimated four or five days from the simulation before she could move back in.
...I didn’t think I’d be able to live there again.
The past six months had made Anna lose all hope of owning such a large house in the capital. Though the old house wasn’t something she bought but inherited from her family, for Anna, whose family had dwindled to just her, this was probably the most valuable asset the declining Garland noble family had left her.
Now, as long as she’s granted the title of E-rank knight and given a piece of land to collect taxes from, Anna felt like her life’s ambitions were pretty much fulfilled.
"...This is a bit boring."
Anna wasn’t going to sleep early tonight; she just wanted to start a simulation.
Ever since she could only run one simulation a day, Anna felt her life had become much duller.
Though the simulations could easily drive her blood pressure up... after cutting ties with that person in the simulation, at least watching the chaos was entertaining, right?
And with so many things to investigate now, Anna wished she could run 24 simulations in 24 hours, exhaustively mapping out all future possibilities.
Then when Theodore finds out all his plans have been uncovered, and he’s slapped with a major crime that lands him in jail, staring at her with that "how do you know everything?" look...
What a Iveg Empire novel plot, so satisfying!
Though I’m not sure how the Iveg Empire manages to produce so many strange novels, despite their history and culture being inferior to the kingdom... though writing these novels doesn’t require much historical or cultural depth.
‘Oh right, I think I brought some novels with me.’
Before leaving the town, Anna carefully selected a few decent Empire novels and destroyed the rest.
After all, even though she didn’t live there anymore, most people in town knew she had. If the house was sold and the new owner found that former border knight Anna Garland had hidden so many strange Empire novels...
...She’d be socially dead, never able to return to the town.
And the town was a trade hub; if merchants spread rumors to the capital... she’d be completely socially ruined.
So destroying them was necessary...
Opening a novel, Anna soon immersed herself in the world of words. Once she was lost in the story, time always seemed to fly by.
When the magic clock’s hands pointed to 12 and made a crisp "click," Anna finally emerged from the novel’s world.
‘It’s 12... Let’s see what the simulation brings today…’
Putting down the novel, Anna eagerly started the simulation.
[Simulation begins]
[Day Zero...]
...
......[Due to repeated achievements, Love of the Waves① (Silver), Twisted Wings (Silver) failed to be obtained.]
...
Watching the simulation where she was dragged into another night of indulgence by Helga, followed by a series of degenerate nights, ultimately ending up the same as the last simulation, Anna fell into self-doubt again.
Is my self-control really that weak?
