ABSOLUTE INSANITY: A forbidden bond-Chapter 141: Nonna’s delight.

Chapter 141

Chapter 141: Nonna’s delight.
Chapter 141
KATYA POV
I opened my mouth, whether to deny it again or apologize, I didn’t even know but she waved me off before I could get a single word out.
"Come, come. Sit. Breathe. You’re making me nervous just looking at you." Despite myself, a tiny smile tugged at my lips.
I crossed to her side and sat on the edge of the bed, resting my palms on my knees. She reached out and patted my hand, her touch warm and familiar.
"That’s better," she murmured. "Now... what were you saying?"
I hesitated. "Everyone just seems... on edge today."
"Mhm." She hummed thoughtfully, eyes sparkling as if she knew exactly why but wasn’t sure she wanted to tell me yet.
"And people were whispering. And you weren’t in your chair. And—"
"And you’re overthinking again," she cut in gently, smoothing a wrinkle in her blanket. "But that’s alright. You always think deeply. It’s one of the reasons I adore you."
Her words eased a little of the tightness in my chest but not all of it. Because Nonna still looked too happy.
And before you get me wrong on my feelings about her looking this joyous I’m glad but something was going on.
Before I could ask again, she gave my hand another soft pat. "Katya, darling?"
"Yes?"
She inhaled softly, almost as if she’d been waiting for the perfect moment to say what came next.
Then her entire face lit up with joy.
"Did you hear the news?" she asked, eyes crinkling with excitement. "That little troublemaker of mine has finally found someone he’s interested in."
The bottom dropped out of my stomach. little troublemaker? it could only be one person.
The one and only Romeo. But him? Interested? In someone?
My fingers went numb. Nonna didn’t notice, she was glowing, absolutely glowing.
"Isn’t that wonderful?" she continued, practically bubbling over. "After all this time... after everything... he finally opened his heart."
My heartbeat stumbled hard. Opened his heart.
To who?
The girl in the white car?
The confident Donna?
The one whose bags were being rolled into the biggest room on this floor?
Why do my throat feel so tight, too tight.
"Oh," I said quietly. Nonna beamed, unaware of the sudden storm twisting inside me.
"Yes, darling," she sighed happily. "And to my surprise it was that beautiful Valerio girl from before"
Marina?!
The name slammed into my brain so hard I almost didn’t hear anything after it.
I just stared at Nonna, my mind scrambling, tripping over itself, trying and failing to form a single coherent thought.
Marina. The girl from the elevator.
The one who looked at everything like it belonged to her.
The one who smiled like she knew exactly how people saw her. The one who oozed that polished, practiced confidence...
...and said no man could resist her charm.
My chest tightened, not painfully, but sharply—like someone had knotted a rope around my ribs and pulled.
I swallowed. My mouth suddenly dry. Nonna kept smiling, so proud, so delighted, completely oblivious to the sudden buzzing in my ears.
"I knew it," she said, tapping her finger against her chin with a mischievous grin. "When I saw that girl the first time, I said to myself, ’This one will cause trouble.’ And look—she did but good trouble."
Good trouble.
Right.
Sure. My breath hitched quietly—not enough for Nonna to notice, but enough to make my lungs feel tight for a second.
The maids’ voices echoed in my head:
"She stepped out looking like a Donna."
"Her beauty is unreal."
"The big guest room is for her."
All of it suddenly made sense.
I wasn’t even shocked anymore.
Not really.
If anything... it fit.
Perfectly.
Almost too perfectly.
Because Marina?
Yeah. I remembered her.
How she stood in that elevator—so poised, so elegant, so impossibly sure of herself she didn’t even need to try.
How I stared at her like some lost kid seeing a magazine cover come to life.
And how she looked back at me like she already knew she won something I didn’t even know was a competition.
My stomach twisted. I wasn’t jealous. I wasn’t.
I just... didn’t know what to think.
What was I supposed to think?
Romeo liking someone was normal. Right. Good, even. He was.....What was he?
Handsome? I can’t say....I won’t say...I don’t want to say.
Strong? Yes.
Brilliant? More than me.. and Ruthless? Of course.
A lunatic?One hundred percent.
And someone like Marina?
Someone beautiful enough to silence a whole dinner room.
Confident enough to fill a room just by existing?
Of course someone like him would like someone like her. It was logical.
Expected.
Exactly the kind of pairing that made sense in a world like this. So why did it feel like the floor shifted under me?
I forced my expression to stay calm, even though my thoughts were spilling everywhere, bumping into each other like frantic marbles.
"Katya?" Nonna tilted her head, amusement still in her eyes. "You’re making that face again."
"What face?" My voice was a whisper, softer than I intended.
"The one where you’re trying very hard to pretend something doesn’t bother you," she said, as if she could read the truth right off my skin.
I looked away, pretending to smooth the blanket beside me.
"It’s nothing," I muttered.
But it wasn’t nothing. Not even close. It was... confusion. A little shock.
A strange, tight ache I didn’t understand.
And something else I didn’t want to name. Because Romeo liking Marina—beautiful, elegant, confident Marina—
Why did that make my heart feel like it forgot how to beat properly?
