After Changing to the Ruthless Way, the Brothers Cried and Begged for Forgiveness-Chapter 449: You’re still young, you don’t understand

Ancestor Sui Bian tucked the last Voice Transmission talisman into his robe, cleared his throat twice, and spoke to Yu Zhao in a weighty tone: “These are all my confidantes.”
Yu Zhao’s eyes turned doubtful as he fumbled an explanation, mumbling, “You’re still young, you don’t understand; what we have is the purest friendship.” [Really? I don’t believe it.]
He waved a hand to shut the topic down, glancing about with far less tension now that the messages had been sent, and said briskly: “Enough, this is an adult matter, don’t butt in.”
Thump. A sudden, muffled bang rolled through the air and echoed in everyone’s ears.
People looked around, trying to locate the source of the sound, yet found nothing amiss, as if the noise had been a shared illusion.
They stayed on guard. Whether they had flown too high or the Ferocious Beast had already finished its hunt, no further Cultivator was attacked. Nearly an hour later, that dull thud came again.
This time gazes swept the surroundings, then fixed as one on the red-and-white mass of the White Bone Mountain; the sound seemed to come from inside it.
Everyone was curious, but no one dared approach. In the hush that followed, a third thud sounded.
A shaky voice ventured from the crowd: “Did I imagine it, or did that mountain just tremble?”
No one answered. In truth, no one dared answer.
A shrill cry cut across the silence: “Look underfoot, the blood is gone!”
Heads dropped. The ground that had been slick with blood had returned to its original color; only the corpses with their eyes open in death proved that the events just now were not their imagination.
The earth had drunk the blood.
All eyes lifted to the White Bone Mountain again, and many drew a sharp breath.
“Bullshit Auspicious Beast, it’s a damned calamity. I’ll butcher it!” A burly man with a face full of knife scars roared, brandishing a great blade as he charged the Auspicious Beast.
Pfft. The clean rip of fine silk cut by a keen edge split the air. The man’s chest was opened by a sharp horn; his shrunken Nascent Soul managed only a single shriek before it was pierced through. His hulking body toppled from the sky. The Auspicious Beast, trophy in tow, swaggered back to its herd.
Everyone reeled. In that brief span, the heartbeat boomed again, and this time all felt their own hearts seized and squeezed; a wrenching pull of pain raced through their limbs and bones. Some cried out in shock, some screamed, others sobbed aloud.
Yu Zhao said nothing, but her pallor betrayed her discomfort. Staring straight at the White Bone Mountain, she forced the words out with resolve: “Ancestor, we cannot let it keep beating.”
A few more beats, and everyone would die.
As an Integration cultivator, Ancestor Sui Bian’s intuition was even keener than Yu Zhao’s. He patted the talismans in his robe, glanced at Yu Zhao’s pale face, and a sharp light flashed in his slightly clouded eyes as he shouted for all to hear: “Listen up. This is no blessed land but a site of Sacrificial Rite. Once the White Bone Mountain revives, none of you will even have a place to die. If you want to live, charge with me and smash it!”
His ringing voice rolled over the assembled Cultivators and hung there. No one answered for a long moment.
He exploded, cursing: “You idiots, you are about to die and still you flinch. Did you leave your guts in the womb when you were born? A pack of cowards, and not one of you has the courage of an old codger like me.”
Huo Shao Yan, watching that bearded elder’s whiskers tremble as he ranted, muttered under his breath: “You might be done with life, but I’m not.” His voice was low, yet it fell in a lull and sounded painfully loud.
Already displeased with that group, Ancestor Sui Bian bristled at the remark, spitting with fury: “So young and already clinging to life at any cost, you will never amount to anything. Loose tongue, weak spine, you look like a born coward.”
“Hey, you fat old codger—” Huo Shao Yan snapped, ready to curse back, when a domineering woman’s voice cut him off.
“I’m going.” All eyes swung toward the speaker as Nangong Yin flicked a strand of red hair and said carelessly: “That’s a Nangong Clan scion,” came one murmur, followed by another: “That’s the Nangong Clan’s eldest young miss, Nangong Yin.”
“The eldest young miss is going; count me in.”
“Me too.”
With Nangong Yin taking the lead, voices rose in a wave. Nearly half the Cultivators chose to join. The rest kept silent; a few even watched with eager, theatrical interest.
Ancestor Sui Bian had no wish to see their ugly faces. He snorted, turned, and was about to tell Yu Zhao to keep her distance when he saw her gripping the Floating Life Mirror in one hand and the Heart Guarding Mirror in the other, determination etched between her brows. The words died in his throat. He sighed inwardly, then lifted his arm and roared: “Charge!”
At the shout, his rotund body shot forward with a speed that belied his Integration realm. Yu Zhao and the others who answered surged after him.
Dong Fang Yue, face bloodless, twisted her fingers together and whispered to Bei Ming Yan: “Should we go too?”
Before Bei Ming Yan could answer, Nangong Jie launched himself wordlessly into the air, eyes locked on the figure at the very front as he told himself: [Nangong Yin, this time you can forget about hogging the spotlight. I, Nangong Jie, will not lose to you again.]
Bei Ming Yan chuckled: “Little Yue, the choice is yours, but I’m going.”
“I’ll go if you go.” The two figures vanished.
“Feng Jiu Si, Shui Qiu Bai, Jin Yuan—why are all of you going?” Tu Xiao looked from one charging companion to the next, panicking. His protective Magical Treasure was used up; now he had only a single life left. If danger struck again, he would be finished.
He grabbed Huo Shao Yan, who had pushed off a beat slower: “Huo Shao Yan, let’s stay here.”
Huo Shao Yan shook him off, face flushed with urgency: “Are you kidding me? They’re all going, and that fat old codger just called me a coward. I’ll prove I am no wimp.” He streaked away like a red meteor.
The bystanders shot Tu Xiao odd looks. He ground his teeth and charged after them.
