Chapter 476: Chapter 331: Business Not Successful, Honor Still Intact (Seeking Monthly Votes)
A person who has spent many years marching and fighting in a camp full of men might not be close to women, but cannot be said to be entirely ignorant of matters between men and women.
Pei Zhan was surrounded by a silent ambiguity, aware that he should withdraw; otherwise, his firm demand for separation last night would become a joke. Yet, he couldn’t move his body or limbs. The unexperienced sweet charm in the air left him powerless.
"Don’t get so close," he turned his face away, his voice slightly husky and seeming weak.
He never knew that even rejecting her could be so difficult.
"Don’t call me Zhan Er. It reminds me of the past, of those days when I could only watch you from afar."
After speaking, he fell silent, then got out of bed barefoot and walked to the table to pour a cup of tea.
When he was about to drink, he realized there was only one cup.
He hesitantly glanced at Fu Zhen, still lying crookedly on the kang table, and eventually brought the tea over to her, placing it in her hand.
Considering how much sweat he had worked up, surely she was hot too?
Fu Zhen turned the porcelain cup in her hands. The porcelain quality was excellent, but it was so plain, just like its owner’s temperament.
She took a sip and placed it back on the table, "So what should I call you?"
Pei Zhan didn’t expect her to ask this question. What to call him? He hadn’t hoped for much, but during the few months since their marriage, she had called him almost nothing else but "General Pei", and she’d never asked before.
Why bring it up now, so suddenly?
Pei Zhan licked his lips, speaking with a rigid face, "Just call me by my courtesy name, — Miss Fu."
Fu Zhen laughed, "I’m not your colleague or classmate, why should I use your courtesy name? And don’t call me Miss Fu."
At this point, she reached out and tugged on his sleeve.
Pei Zhan’s heart pounded erratically in his chest from her tugging. His tone became rougher, "What are you doing?"
Fu Zhen tugged again.
He reluctantly sat down, his face stern, "If you have something to say..."
Before he could finish, Fu Zhen suddenly leaned toward his neck, "Do you have a childhood name? What did your family call you when you were a child?"
Pei Zhan, caught off guard, blushed from his neck to the base of his ears. He turned his face further away, "Given our current situation, it’s not appropriate for you to call me by my childhood name." Also, she really should maintain some distance...
"You can’t say it like that, maintaining good relations even after parting ways is important," Fu Zhen turned his face back to her, "Even if we separate, can’t we still be friends? Considering we shared a room for several months, if I need your help in the future, wouldn’t you lend me a hand?"
Pei Zhan didn’t want her to, but he couldn’t resist her, so his face got squeezed within her palm. He showed disdain, "You sure have a nice imagination. Once we separate, we’ll mind our own business. I’m your washed-up husband, why would you come to me?"
"Better to ask someone familiar than a stranger!"
Fu Zhen looked into his eyes. This was her first time looking at him so closely. His face was so heroic, with strong and clear features; in her soft palm, he felt intensely present.
Somehow, it reminded her of when she pinched his face in childhood, back when his cheeks were plump and so satisfying to squeeze.
She couldn’t help kneading it a couple more times.
It didn’t feel like it did in childhood, but her palm inexplicably heated up.
—She could no longer see him as that child. Now robust and handsome, he was filled with a sense of strength.
Yet, he truly remained that child, whether when drunk at the tofu shop back then, or not willing to talk properly now, he was amusingly awkward!
At this moment, Pei Zhan was stunned. Stunned like an idiot, motionless.
Fu Zhen met his gaze, pinched his earlobe with her thumb and forefinger, indulgently squeezed it a couple times before letting go.
"I still like calling you that, Zhan Er, so nice to hear. It reminds me that we once had a shared time."
Her tone was so down-to-earth, like a casual chat, yet Pei Zhan, failing to resist, felt his heart ripple from such words.
"Why do you want to have overlap? You have so many admirers, everyone revolves around you, my presence shouldn’t mean much to you."
"But among so many indistinct children, didn’t I still remember you?" Fu Zhen laughed, "Look, I even remember that string of candied haws."
Pei Zhan’s body suddenly shook, his eyes filled with incredulity. "You really..."
