Chapter 518: Chapter Three Hundred and Six: Lost Dignity and Backbone_1
As his words fell, the entire place descended into a deathly silence.
Although the words had been spoken, being called out so openly and directly by Su Bei, leaving no room for face-saving, made things exceedingly difficult.
The Origin Sect Elder’s face turned livid. He opened his mouth as if to say something defiant, but a sidelong glance at the deathly pale Ling Zhan made him swallow his words.
At this moment, all the Elders and Sect Masters of the Ten Great Sects who had come to South City gathered around Ling Zhan. Witnessing Su Bei actually dare to strike, a chill ran down each of their spines.
They exchanged glances.
Dan Wuque pressed his lips tightly together, staring dumbfounded at the scene unfolding before him, his small fists clenched, the single tuft of hair on his head drooping listlessly.
Tong Xiu, who had rushed over, wore a calm expression, but his eyes concealed an undeniable shock and a hint of admiration.
Yu Hongxiu, however, was not present. She remained seated high in the pavilion, one hand gently propping up her chin, her slender, pale fingers tapping her pearly teeth, the corners of her lips curved into an amused, playful smile.
Her figure was alluring, her exposed skin as smooth and white as mutton-fat jade. Her two long, straight legs were pressed tightly together.
After a short while, a woman hurried up to her and whispered a few words in her ear.
A flash of surprise crossed Yu Hongxiu’s eyes.
"Are you saying that traces of the Eastern Emperor have been found?" she asked.
"He appeared here in South City?"
The woman nodded solemnly.
Yu Hongxiu turned, her brows deeply furrowed, and gazed at the ferry landing below the pavilion window, muttering to herself, "Having disappeared for so long, where exactly did he go? Coincidence? Or was it meticulously planned?"
She pondered for a moment, then turned and vanished from the pavilion.
「...」
Su Bei exhaled a breath of stale air, looking indifferently at the scene before him. His five fingers twirled, and the six longswords revolved in sequence. He then spoke, not bothering with pleasantries,
"What’s this? Do you all still intend to stand here and watch?
"Or perhaps, you all wish to discuss reason with the Sword Sect?"
"..."
This statement was a clear dismissal. He had no time for such charades with them; more important matters awaited.
The longswords returned to the Sword Box.
Amidst the clamor of Treasures Avenue, Su Bei looked at Ling Zhan, whose chest was stained red with blood, and delivered his judgment.
Ling Zhan looked as though all his vitality had been drained, remaining silent and without protest.
He propped himself up with his right hand, veins bulging on his arm as he struggled to rise, but his efforts were futile.
Finally managing to get to his feet, albeit in a wretched state, he turned to look at Su Bei.
"Elder Su, Ling Zhan will remember this strike," he said.
Then, he led the trembling Disciples of Wuhua Palace away from Treasures Avenue.
The Origin Sect Elder snorted coldly. Looking at Su Bei with an unpredictable expression, he said, "I hope Elder Su can maintain today’s impressiveness in the future."
"..."
With that, he turned and departed with a flick of his sleeve.
Tong Xiu narrowed his eyes at Su Bei, then, along with the Blade Sect, Buddha Gate, and the other assembled sects, began to disperse the crowd, and they all departed.
By now, the area where the crowd had gathered was utterly ruined, with no part of it left intact. However, reinforced by Su Bei’s Sword Qi, it hadn’t completely collapsed.
Each tile and brick was held by an invisible force, separated and suspended, yet all remained in their original positions, vaguely piecing together Li Lou’s original appearance.
All the Sword Sect Disciples gazed at the figure in the white robe embroidered with begonias, standing with his sword. Their hearts were profoundly stirred, and a wave of heat surged from their chests, rushing to the crowns of their heads.
So this is Elder Su?
The female disciple swallowed hard, feeling as if all her previous shame was washed away in that instant.
"Elder Su!"
"Fifth Elder..."
The group surged towards Su Bei.
Su Bei turned to look at them, his face impassive.
However, the gentle expression everyone had anticipated did not appear on his lips.
The wind billowed his robes, which RUSTLED sharply.
A rare flicker of annoyance appeared in Su Bei’s eyes. He looked at the Sword Sect Disciples before him with a complex expression, took a deep breath, and then began to berate them loudly.
"Is this how you protect the Sword Sect?
"Are these the swords you wield?
"Do you still have the audacity to smile?"
As his heavy words fell, Su Bei’s white hair danced in the wind. His deep pupils reflected the images of the Sword Sect Disciples, who bowed their heads in silence.
The Sword Sect Disciples were stunned into stillness, looking helplessly at the furious man before them, his undisguised anger echoing in their ears.
"If I hadn’t come today, would you have just stood by and watched?
"The eight hundred Sword Tombs that entomb the Sword Sect’s fallen, the pride forged by eight hundred Sword Immortals laid to rest across the land—is this how you honor it?
"Or have you already decided in your hearts that this is what the Sword Sect stands for?
"I think Ling Zhan was not wrong in the slightest—the Sword Sect truly has taken in a bunch of useless trash!
"A bunch of trash!!"
These words were rather harsh. But in Su Bei’s heart, this was indeed the case.
Before seeing it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed it.
As fellow sect disciples, seeing a peer in trouble, they had no intention of helping? Afraid of getting implicated?
This was no longer mere selfishness. If it had been one or two, it might have been excusable, but this was a group of people—all the Sword Sect Disciples present!
All the Sword Sect Disciples flushed with shame.
Ling Zhan was from Wuhua Palace; he could say what he wanted. However, for these same words to come from an Elder of the Sword Sect, one whom the Sword Sect Disciples deeply admired and revered, the meaning was vastly different.
