Volume 4: High School Arc - “I” Come to Find You~
The recording wasn’t long, barely three minutes in total, but the me in the footage had clearly done my best, trying to explain every detail before and after the incident as clearly as possible.
Including the time we left the KTV, and the conversation between Bai Yao and Lili before it all happened.
I glanced at my phone that had gone black at some point, then raised my hand to wipe the cold sweat from my forehead.
After retreating from that part of my memory, the lingering fear still wrapped around me, and even though I had forgotten that memory now, the terrifying sensation hadn’t left me.
At this point, it seemed necessary to go check out Lili’s house, and it would be best to do it now.
The incident had happened very suddenly, and that pitch-black environment… was it because of the Interdimensional Space shift?
Or was it caused by the presence of a monster, cutting off power in the area?
After a moment of silence, I no longer felt sleepy, so I went straight to the bathroom to wash off the cold sweat, then changed into clean clothes and leapt down from the side of the balcony.
The front of the balcony faced the fish pond, but the side didn’t, so jumping down from the side, there was still some space below my feet.
After landing, I climbed over the wall and left directly.
It was now 12:30.
Lili’s house was on the south side of the city, still quite far from where I was.
Thinking it over, it seemed today wasn’t particularly dangerous, so I simply took out my phone and called Brother Zhao.
That’s Zhao Wengang, the one who drives a taxi.
The call went through quickly, and the other side answered.
“Hello!?”
From the sound on the other side, it seemed there were others around. He was probably still driving.
“Brother Zhao, it’s me, Liu Yunyan.”
“Ah! Sister Liu! What’s up? Need a ride?”
Brother Zhao was as straightforward as ever, asking without the slightest formality.
“Yeah. Are you available now, Brother Zhao?”
“I am, but… you’ll have to wait a bit. I’ve still got other passengers, gotta drop them off first.”
“Okay, no rush. I’ll be waiting at the entrance of the villa area.”
“Alrighty! Got it!”
With that, he hung up, and I left the neighborhood.
Lately, I had no idea what Liu Wanqian and Gong Lianyu were thinking.
Either way, anyone coming in or out of the neighborhood would definitely get noticed, but that couple hadn’t done anything about me.
My guess was that Shao He had helped cover for me.
I showed my access card and continued walking out.
I’d been going out at night so frequently that even the guards were getting familiar with my face.
They naturally knew which villa I lived in, but the guards here were fairly professional and didn’t gossip.
After all, looking at my current state—heading out in the middle of the night and still living in a villa—it did seem a little… questionable.
I waited at the entrance for a while, and one of the guards chatted with me.
He even offered me a cigarette.
Although I used to be a heavy smoker and was used to having cigarettes around, ever since being reborn, I’d quit completely.
I’d known smoking was bad before, but back then, I had given up on myself.
But now…
I shook my head and pushed those thoughts away, chatted with the guard for a bit, and then saw Brother Zhao’s car approaching from afar.
I got in and gave him the address right away.
Brother Zhao was warm and talkative, chatting with me as he drove, but never once asked why I was going there.
Surprisingly, Brother Zhao had quite a sense of professional ethics.
Soon, the car arrived at the entrance of a residential complex, which didn’t allow outside vehicles to enter.
I told him to wait for me, then walked into the complex on my own.
Maybe because of my clean appearance and tidy clothes, the security didn’t stop me.
“Building 6, Unit B, 13th floor, Apartment 2.”
Since I didn’t have that part of my memory, I had no choice but to search one by one.
Eventually, I found Building 6.
I reached the entrance, but without an access card, I couldn’t open the door to the building—though that wouldn’t stop me.
I reached out, and my Evil Spirit Form bypassed the outer shell of the electronic lock.
Instantly, the circuits inside appeared in my mind.
Then, using the fingers of the Evil Spirit Form in place of a switch, I gave a light touch, and with a click, the door unlocked.
Before coming here, I had already prepared gloves.
I put them on before entering to avoid unnecessary trouble and not leave any trace behind.
I didn’t take the elevator, but chose the stairs instead.
My physical ability was slightly better than that of a regular person. Probably on par with some well-trained female special forces soldiers.
I climbed up to the thirteenth floor in one go.
Though I was sweating, I wasn’t exhausted.
Standing behind the iron door, I closed my eyes and didn’t go in.
Instead, I stayed outside and sent the Evil Spirit Form out of my body.
Peering through the iron gate, I made sure there were no surveillance cameras before walking into the hallway.
The corridor here was very narrow, with only four doors: one elevator door, one stairwell door, and two apartment doors—Units 1 and 2 of Building B, 13th floor, standing opposite each other.
I couldn’t go to Zhang Yang’s place.
The main reason was that Lu Haochen and I had already looked into Zhang Yang’s situation once at the company.
If we were seen near Zhang Yang’s home after his death, it might draw unwanted attention.
But Bai Yao’s home was different.
Nothing unusual had happened at her place so far.
I took a deep breath and walked up to Lili’s door.
Then I leaned my body against the wall and closed my eyes.
My Evil Spirit Form could now stretch freely, as long as the overall volume remained unchanged.
I detached the upper half of my body from my physical form and leaned fully against the wall.
Turning my head, I passed through the wall.
Ignoring the strange déjà vu that hit me as soon as I entered the room, the Evil Spirit Form went straight to Lili’s bedroom door.
Inside… what would it be like?
I hadn’t seen Zhang Yang’s corpse, so my mind was full of questions.
What terrifying thing had Zhang Yang encountered after that call, and how exactly had he died?
Now… I should be able to find out.
The Evil Spirit Form didn’t need to breathe, and its emotions were minimal, so I didn’t need any mental preparation.
I simply leaned in and passed through the wooden door, entering the room.
Outside the window, the bright moonlight illuminated the room before me.
And also lit up a swaying… shadow.
The moment I entered the room, the first thing I noticed was the shadow on the ground.
It was… a human shadow.
Long, loose hair, and limp limbs all cast their reflection on the white tiled floor.
I followed the line of light upward, but before I could even see the owner of the shadow, I saw… the head on the floor.
A peaceful-looking girl’s head.
The neck appeared to have been violently torn or bitten off.
The blood inside had already begun to coagulate.
Ignoring the head, I continued to look upward.
The moonlight illuminated… the body hanging from the chandelier.
She… had her head tilted to the side, eyes wide open, mouth stretched to the extreme, limbs dangling lifelessly.
Around her neck, a loop of rope had hung her body from the chandelier. Even though there wasn’t a single breeze in the room, her body… was gently swaying.
Her body was already in a wretched state, like something had ripped and bitten it apart.
Her abdomen was chewed open, with no sign of any internal organs.
When I looked at the rope tied around her neck again, I realized I had been mistaken.
What was hanging her from the chandelier… was clearly her own intestines!!
Staring into those lifeless eyes, filled with despair, fear, and emptiness.
She… was Bai Yao.
