An Unusual Life Beginning with Evil Spirits-Chapter 166 : Four Victims

Chapter 166

Volume 4: High School Arc - “I” Come to Find You~
Lying on the back seat, I ignored the slightly worried looks from the two people in the front.
The departure of the Evil Spirit Form would not attract anyone's attention.
After closing my eyes, I deliberately waited for one more minute.
When the Evil Spirit Form left the body, the body would immediately enter a deep sleep.
The brain’s neural activity would resemble that of a vegetative state, so if I fell asleep right after lying down, it would easily cause misunderstanding.
Such as being seen as "fainting" or something like that.
After a minute that seemed long but actually passed in the blink of an eye, the Evil Spirit Form slowly detached from the body.
The moment I separated, a tremendous sense of relief flooded through the Evil Spirit Form, and at the same time, a powerful hunger surged into my consciousness.
Simultaneously, all sorts of aromas continued to flow into my nostrils—scents that belonged to souls.
At this moment, I had virtually no normal human sense of morality left.
After all, the hormones in my body no longer participated in my conscious functions.
I forcefully suppressed the urge to devour the souls of the two people in the front seats as the Evil Spirit Form slowly floated out of the car and stood on the street.
If anyone could see spiritual bodies at that moment, they would surely see a pitch-black shadow standing three meters tall, with an elongated form, standing under the sunlight.
But on the ground… there was no shadow.
I glanced around.
Without hesitation, I stepped over the iron fence and passed through the wall.
Upon entering the room, I found myself in a corridor.
I looked up and quickly locked onto the evidence room, then dove straight through the iron door.
The evidence room looked just like a warehouse, with various objects displayed on the counters.
For ordinary people walking in here, they probably wouldn’t see anything unusual.
But when I stood inside this evidence room, I saw all the items radiating different auras.
It was a very strange feeling.
Some of the evidence items were continuously emitting various types of energy fluctuations.
Most of those with auras were iron tools—hammers, axes, daggers, long blades.
In contrast, the firearms—hot weapons—didn’t emit any aura at all.
"Resentment… huh?"
Through my interactions with Lu Haochen, I had gradually learned a few things about the supernatural world.
Unlike the APP, these iron weapons radiating energy should all be murder weapons stained with resentment.
It was similar to how electromagnetic waves from people at the time of death could magnetize these weapons to a certain extent.
At that level, unless one used extremely precise instruments, it would be very difficult to detect.
"None of them are strong…"
After sweeping my gaze across the room, I noticed that the energy within these items was extremely weak.
Most of them… probably only killed one or two people—not enough to reach the threshold of transformation.
"Looks like… what Lu Haochen said about Murder Weapons might actually be true."
I just didn’t know, in this electrically charged modern world, how many of these Murder Weapons could still be preserved.
Wait a minute… any living creature should have some level of electromagnetic fluctuations.
So… wouldn’t the modern world be filled with powerful pig-slaughtering knives?
But pigs didn’t have the same level of intelligence as humans.
For a pig-slaughtering knife to reach the level of a Murder Weapon as Lu Haochen described, it would probably have to kill thousands or tens of thousands of pigs.
Forget it.
Now wasn’t the time to think about that.
As my eyes scanned across everything before me, I suddenly realized… I had forgotten to investigate first.
In such a large evidence room, it would be very difficult to find three specific phones.
After thinking for a moment, I turned and floated upstairs, checking each place along the way.
In Evil Spirit Form, my thought processing speed multiplied, and correspondingly, the flow of time around me seemed much slower.
My movements were also faster and more agile than someone with a physical body.
After quickly sweeping through the second floor and finding nothing of interest, I floated directly up to the third floor and began checking each room one by one from the beginning.
Suddenly, I seemed to hear something.
"This case now already has four victims, and it’s been three consecutive days—this is an extremely frightening situation!!"
Just as I reached the end of the corridor and was about to head downstairs to search the first floor again, a voice rang out from the captain’s office at the end of the corridor.
I stuck my head through the wooden door and glanced around the room.
It was about forty square meters in size, with a partition inside.
The voice had come from within that partition.
"Four victims…"
Thinking of that sentence, I subconsciously walked deeper inside.
After passing through another door, the voice became clearer.
"This is a serial murder case! The killer is extremely brutal! Right now, the mayor is suppressing the media. If you don’t solve this case quickly, once it blows up, not only will I lose my position, all of you will too!!"
Inside the room, a man was sitting on a chair, his face dark with anger.
In front of him was a stack of files, the cover labeled: Major Serial Murder Case 926.
"You have one day. Starting today, I will not allow a single more victim!!"
There were two people standing there being scolded.
Both were wearing police uniforms and had their heads lowered.
When the captain said that, one of them spoke up:
"Director, this case is a bit tricky…"
"Tricky!!!?"
Upon hearing that word, the director who had been shouting suddenly slammed the table with a loud 'bang', stood up, and yelled in fury:
"Just because it’s tricky you won’t solve it!? Are taxpayers feeding you to do nothing!? I don’t care what method you use! Tonight, not one more victim!!"
"Yes, sir!"
The two scolded officers immediately gave a military salute.
Right after, the director picked up the cap on his desk and took a deep breath.
"Inform me immediately if there’s any news. I’m going to see the mayor now. You get moving at once. I’ve already notified the traffic bureau and public security bureau. Now you lock onto the suspect for me! Once the suspect is identified, the public security, traffic police, SWAT and patrol teams will fully cooperate with you in making the arrest! You must ensure there are no more victims!!"
"Yes, sir!"
The two reprimanded officers exchanged a helpless glance, then responded crisply.
The director put his cap on his head and walked straight out.
I quickly stepped aside for the director.
If he touched me, he’d see me.
Regardless of his motives, this director seemed responsible enough, and he spoke decently.
No need to scare him.
The director left, and I kept track of the time.
Less than four minutes remained.
I didn’t know if I could get any useful information in that time.
Thinking that, I turned back to look at the two people in the room.
"What do we do now… My dear captain, the director just gave a death order."
One officer sat down in a chair helplessly, pulled out a cigarette, and handed it to the captain, asking.
"What else can we do? Right now we’ve got thirteen suspects. In a bit, you go to the patrol team and check the surveillance—see if there are any leads near the crime scene. I’ll go talk to those thirteen suspects. No matter what, there can’t be another victim tonight."
