Apocalypse Star House Hoarding-Chapter 315

Chapter 315

In the world of endless missions, the word “system” was synonymous with ruthlessness, fear, slaughter, and mechanical coldness.
Across tens of thousands of mission worlds and billions of mission operatives, countless people lost their humanity, fell into madness, or died every single day.
The systems that controlled them all remained nothing more than cold, mechanical voices. They did not care about pain, did not sympathize with bleeding, did not pause for tears, and would never stop when one fell into despair.
They only issued missions, points, and rewards. Only those who endured could become stronger, and only by growing stronger did one earn the right to continue living.
Only by repeatedly challenging high-difficulty S-rank missions could an operative gain a temporary return to a peaceful world and enjoy a brief respite.
To operatives, no matter how powerful they became, the word “system” would always invoke fear.
And now, Leng Mian had just said that Xing Min was Yu Xi’s system?
Everyone knew Yu Xi was bound to a different system, but none of them had ever imagined that the man who had protected her all this time—who had fought alongside them—was actually her system!?
“I’m so jealous! Your system is so down-to-earth!” Yu Zhenzhen once again gave Xing Min a once-over, finding him even more dazzling now that he carried such an extraordinary identity.
It was like a young, handsome man suddenly revealing that he was not only rich but also an immensely talented top-tier powerhouse. And now, this rich and powerful man had remained devoted solely to protecting her mother the entire time. Just imagining it made her feel exhilarated.
“Strictly speaking, he’s not a system,” Yu Xi looked at Xing Min. Ever since she had learned about his past, she no longer associated him with words like “system,” “artificial intelligence,” or “digital lifeform.”
He, like her, was a living being in this universe. By pure chance, their spaces had overlapped, allowing them to meet and form a bond.
And because Xing Min had transferred part of the spaceship’s authority to Yu Xi—thus binding the ship’s system to her—he had now directly obtained partial control over the System Tower’s mission worlds through her.
Something that was originally expected to take decades or even centuries had suddenly advanced by more than half. Xing Min could now clearly perceive the existence of numerous mission worlds. Once they returned to their original world and restarted the spaceship system, he would be able to directly take over some of those worlds—including the ones where Yu Xi had already implanted anchor points.
The details of how to proceed, the full scope of his control, and the functionalities of this authority would all have to be tested, explored, and learned step by step after they returned.
Xing Min’s identity was complex, and it also involved System T and the origins of the mission worlds. Even if he wanted to explain it, this wasn’t the right place.
The countdown on their phones was still ticking. If they didn’t gather all the Easter Egg Fragments before time ran out, they still wouldn’t be able to leave the Endless Train world.
The commotion in the observation carriage had already drawn the attention of the train attendants. While they had immunity to the “Golden Train,” that didn’t mean the attendants couldn’t see them. Excessive actions would still attract trouble.
Leng Mian signaled for everyone to disperse and continue searching for their fragments. As for herself, though she was now an NPC, she had already awakened, and with someone waiting for her outside this world, she had her own way to leave.
Still, she would wait until everyone had successfully found their Easter Egg Fragments and left before departing as well.
“Once everyone has their fragments, meet in the garden carriage. It’s closed to the public at this time.”
Yu Xi closed the carriage door, selected her destination, swiped her wristband, and stepped out.
**
The carriage door shut behind her, and she was immediately engulfed in darkness.
The dim sensor lights flickered on automatically. This was a space resembling an automated control room, with multiple carriage doors around her, each labeled with alphanumeric codes that didn’t appear in the passengers’ wristband directories.
She scanned the destinations listed on her wristband, checking the names of different functional carriages, until her gaze stopped on three words: Ingredient Storage.
She found the corresponding carriage door and saw that the ingredient storage was divided into twenty sections, labeled from 1 to 20.
The Golden Train’s carriages were vast—what kind of “ingredients” required an entire twenty-carriage storage facility?
Her instincts told her that these ingredient storage carriages were exactly what she had been searching for.
Randomly selecting a number, she unlocked the door with her wristband.
The door opened, and the light from the control room illuminated the space beyond.
Neatly arranged glass cylinders stood tall inside, emitting a cold, eerie glow in the darkness.
As expected, the carriages marked as “ingredient storage” on the attendants’ wristbands were the same as the ones she had woken up in after escaping the virtual world.
To the Golden Train, living humans were nothing more than raw materials.
“Brilliance in the darkness.”
What turned the endless darkness outside the train windows into breathtakingly beautiful landscapes were the precious memories inside the passengers’ minds—their longing and recollections transformed despair into something radiant.
Standing amidst the glass cylinders, Yu Xi’s phone flashed with a notification.
Easter Egg (Activated): Fragment Collection Rate (100%). Station Fragment Count: 1 (Collected).
Easter Egg Fragment Available: 1 (View? Yes/No).
She clicked “Yes.”
A flood of massive data and memories rushed into her mind all at once.
Not only did it contain the method to leave the Endless Train world, but also the full truth about the reality of the mission worlds.
Moments later, Yu Xi’s eyes widened in shock.
So that’s how it was!
After a brief pause, she exited the “ingredient storage” and headed toward the prearranged meeting point in the garden carriage to wait for her teammates.
Everyone was intelligent—though they had initially searched in the wrong locations, after some analysis and elimination, they quickly found their respective memory fragments.
Even those who hadn’t reached an 80% collection rate before were able to unlock the way to escape by obtaining this final, most crucial fragment, which also provided them with a wealth of information about the reality of the mission world.
Yu Zhenzhen, who hadn’t seen Leng Mian in a long time and was also deeply curious about her NPC identity, had stuck to Leng Mian throughout the search.
An hour later, Ya Tong, Xing Min, and Yu Zhenzhen were the first to find their Easter Egg Fragments and arrive at the garden carriage.
Twenty minutes later, Lin Wu also arrived.
When Lin Wu arrived, Yu Xi and the others were discussing the scenes they had experienced in the virtual world.
What had drawn them into those dreams were the scenarios they had always hoped to see or experience. However, the length of time each person spent in the virtual world varied.
Ya Tong’s dream had stretched across a long timeline. In her version of reality, after they returned to the post-apocalyptic world, they fought against the System Tower. After winning the battle, the entire system collapsed, the mission worlds returned to their original forms, and she was sent back to her original world—back to a time before any of the disasters had ever happened.
Yu Qi was alive, the world was at peace, and she and Yu Qi were responsible for earning a living while Yu Xi continued her studies.
Somehow, their originally small three-person life had gained an extra member—Yu Zhenzhen. She was still a high school student, but even more rebellious than Yu Xi had been, constantly getting into trouble and making the others clean up after her.
Hearing this, Yu Zhenzhen immediately protested, insisting that she had long since stopped being rebellious and was now Yu Xi’s most loyal and affectionate supporter. But after voicing her complaint, she belatedly realized—how did Ya Tong even know what she had been like in high school?
Turning to look, she saw Yu Xi and Ya Tong exchange a knowing smile.
It was as if they both shared a secret that she was completely unaware of.
It was then that Yu Zhenzhen finally learned the truth—there had been several years in her original world where the “Qu Yichen” she had known wasn’t really Qu Yichen at all, but Ya Tong in disguise.
“No wonder!” Yu Zhenzhen smacked her forehead. “I thought Qu Yichen had suddenly taken a liking to my mom and wanted to be my dad!”
Looking back now, everything made sense.
“Qu Yichen” had suddenly started smoking.
“He” would always give her this helpless yet indulgent gaze.
“He” would pat her head like an adult doting on a child…
Even though her original life had been shattered by disaster, and they had faced countless hardships, those years had still been filled with warmth and happiness—because Yu Xi and “Qu Yichen” had been by her side.
They had protected her so well that, in her virtual dream world, she had completely skipped over the reality of the mission worlds beyond the Endless Train.
Instead, she had returned to the moment she was on the great ship.
In her dream, everything after that—the crossing of the world boundary, meeting Leng Mian, entering the Endless Train world—had all been just a dream.
In that dream world, Yu Xi never died, and she never accidentally crossed the world boundary.
Instead, one day, Leng Mian and Ya Tong suddenly appeared in her world, having crossed the boundary themselves.
She, Yu Xi, Leng Mian, and Ya Tong all lived together on the great ship.
They stayed together until she had children.
Until Yu Xi and the others grew old.
They and their families lived long, fulfilling lives…
That was the dream buried deep within her heart—the other possible path her life could have taken.
Even though the fragment world was small, as long as her loved ones were with her, she would have been perfectly content, even if she had to stay there forever.
Leng Mian gently patted her head. “It will happen. The peaceful, ordinary life you long for—it will come soon.”
Yu Zhenzhen looked at Yu Xi, Leng Mian, and Ya Tong. “But… if you’re not with me, how could I ever be happy alone?”
Especially Yu Xi.
She knew full well that Yu Xi came from another dimension—one that wasn’t under the control of the System Tower. She had family there, but Yu Zhenzhen couldn’t go to that world.
“Things are different now. Part of the mission world’s control authority is in your mother’s hands, and another part is with me,” Leng Mian said. “We still don’t fully understand how to operate it, but we’ll figure it out together. We’ll change these worlds, then try to find a way. We have time…”
As Leng Mian reassured Yu Zhenzhen, Xi Yuan finally obtained his Easter Egg Fragment and arrived at the garden carriage.
Curious about the dreams of the three men, the others began to ask.
Among them, only Lin Wu was willing to share his experience.
In his dream, he had returned to his original world and woke up in a hospital bed, with his friends by his side.
For a while, he couldn’t tell if everything he had gone through had been real or just a dream.
He recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital, resuming his old life.
Then, one day, while crossing the street, he saw Yu Xi.
He stopped in his tracks, studying her. But she had no recognition of him whatsoever.
As he stood there, stunned, trying to process his memories of the mission worlds, chaos suddenly erupted around him.
Countless black creatures appeared out of nowhere, swarming through the crowd, tearing people apart, shattering the city’s peace.
He saw Yu Xi standing among the panicked people—calm, unmoving.
Then, suddenly, she pulled out a Tang sword and rushed into battle.
Realizing what was happening, he instinctively grabbed a nearby pole and charged in after her…
Ya Tong burst into laughter at this point. “Everyone else’s dream world was peaceful, but you? Even in a virtual dream, you still had to fight!”
Yu Zhenzhen clapped him on the shoulder. “Lin Wu, you’re a true workaholic! Respect!”
Lin Wu: …
After hearing about Lin Wu’s dream, everyone turned their eyes toward Xing Min and Xi Yuan.
Xi Yuan’s expression visibly stiffened.
Xing Min remained silent.
Both of their reactions were far too telling.
Yu Zhenzhen wanted to press them for answers, but before she could, Yu Xi shifted the topic to something more pressing.
**
Yu Xi spoke about the ingredient storage carriages.
According to what Number Seventeen had said, the black voids through which the Endless Train traveled contained many different sectors. The one they were in was entirely populated by humans.
Number Seventeen had also said that the travelers in this black void were the easiest to deceive—likely meaning that the Golden Train had trapped more people here than any other station.
Although the Endless Train world encouraged travelers to fight and kill each other, when viewed from a broader perspective, there was never any real reason for hostility among them.
Their true enemy was the Endless Train world itself.
Now that they had identified their true adversary and understood what it was doing, it would feel like a waste if they didn’t do something before leaving.
Everyone quietly discussed their plan and swiftly put it into action.
Half an hour later, with everything set up, they regrouped in the garden carriage and pulled out their phones.
On their Endless Train devices, a previously hidden option had appeared.
Clicking on it brought up a prompt.
Confirmation: Do you wish to leave the Endless Train? (Yes/No)
Note: This option was hidden and only appeared after obtaining the Golden Train special station’s Easter Egg Fragment. This is an irreversible choice. Please consider carefully.
This time, the way they were leaving made far more sense than the false departure method the Golden Train had originally offered.
All of their information had always come from the Endless Train’s phone. No matter how the station changed, only the data from the phone was the true standard.
After exchanging glances, everyone pressed “Confirm Exit.”
Yu Xi hesitated, worried about whether Leng Mian could truly leave the Endless Train world. After Ya Tong, Yu Zhenzhen, Lin Wu, and Xi Yuan’s bodies disappeared from the carriage, she signaled for Leng Mian to go next.
“Don’t worry, I can leave. Once I’m out, I’ll return directly to the Inner Tower. But the time flow there is different from the mission worlds and your original world. It might be a long time before we see each other again… if we ever do.” Leng Mian spread her arms and hugged her.
“I will keep trying. I will always be here.”
Those were the same words she had once said to her in the zombie world.
Back then, she had said them because she was reluctant to part ways.
Now, she said them because she truly believed they would meet again.
After Leng Mian’s body vanished from the carriage, Yu Xi turned to Xing Min, who was waiting beside her.
“Let’s go.”
She pulled out her phone, ready to press the screen, but before she could, Xing Min gently held her fingers in his palm.
“What’s wrong?” Yu Xi looked up at him.
He met her gaze, enclosing her hand in his, and spoke slowly. “Once we leave, I won’t look like this anymore.”
“I know,” Yu Xi nodded. “You changed your appearance when you entered the Endless Train world, making it resemble your original form more closely.”
“Mm…” His long lashes lowered slightly, and a familiar scene from the virtual dream world surfaced in his mind.
That dream had been too beautiful to describe.
For a time so long he had forgotten what time even was, he had finally been able to exist in his own body again, to live as himself—as Xing Min, the system.
He no longer had to borrow someone else’s body.
He could hold her, just as he was.
But a dream was just a dream.
Reality had pulled him back, and he knew that once they left this world, he might not even be able to maintain his current form in front of her.
So—
His eyelashes fluttered slightly. His gaze lowered to Yu Xi’s lips.
Then he tilted his head and leaned in, his lips stopping just in front of hers.
“So, before we leave… while I still look like myself,” he whispered, “bite me.”
The man tilted his head slightly, his jawline forming a flawless curve. His eyes were half-lowered, making it impossible to read his expression from Yu Xi’s angle.
The only thing visible was his ear—slowly turning red.
Yu Xi wasn’t unfamiliar with romance. And with the way he had worded it, he had already hinted far more than enough.
She had once thought about biting him, just to see his reaction. Back then, it had been nothing more than a passing thought, not something with any real meaning.
But now, looking at the lips he had willingly offered her, she was actually tempted.
She hooked her arms around his neck, bringing her lips closer to his—only to pause just before touching him.
“What if I don’t want to bite you?” she asked.
Beneath her fingertips, she felt a subtle tremor in his neck, as if he was a tightly wound string on the verge of snapping.
Seeing him like this, she suddenly felt bad about teasing him.
Yu Xi tightened her grip around his neck and lightly bit his lip, following it with a slow lick over the spot she had just bitten.
Cool and soft.
Kind of delicious.
She pulled back slightly, savoring the sensation, then met his startled gaze.
Smiling, she placed a light kiss on his lips and asked, “Which one did you like best?”
The man’s gaze darkened instantly.
After a moment of silence, he reached out and pulled her into a tight embrace.
“Xiao Xi, if…” His voice lingered at her ear, yet he never finished the sentence.
If he weren’t just a consciousness fused with the spaceship system.
If he had a body of his own.
How wonderful would that be?
Yu Xi felt the strength in his embrace and wrapped her arms around his waist, gently patting his back.
“Things are already good now. There are so many mission worlds out there. If we keep trying, we’ll definitely find a way.”
**
One hour after Yu Xi and Xing Min’s bodies disappeared from the carriage, all twenty of the “ingredient storage” carriages on the Golden Train simultaneously malfunctioned.
The power cut off, the claw-shaped metal restraints released, and the passengers who had been trapped in the glass cylinders like objects suddenly began to wake up.
Pulled from their virtual dreams, they regained awareness immediately—only to be met with the excruciating pain in their bodies.
These were all veteran travelers who had survived countless stations. The moment they understood what had happened, the glass cylinders could no longer hold them.
Faced with a common enemy, even those who had once been wary of each other quickly united.
The train butlers and attendants, still busy pacifying the newly boarding passengers with flawless service, had no idea that a storm was about to sweep through the entire Golden Train.
**
It felt as though a long-frozen body had finally started moving again.
Yu Xi opened her eyes inside a carriage.
The train had stopped moving.
The door was open.
Someone stepped inside, swiftly helping the people in the carriage to their feet.
They were wearing lightweight space suits—the same kind she remembered from before.
Yu Xi raised her hand slightly, noticing that she, too, was dressed in a similar suit.
She let out a quiet breath of relief.
Guided by the people in suits, she stepped out of the train.
The moment she left the train’s confines, she was immediately met with weightlessness.
This section of the train had stopped alongside a space station—one end facing the infinite cosmos, the other toward the planet before them.
Even though she had already seen it within the final Easter Egg Fragment’s vision, witnessing it firsthand still sent a shiver down her spine.
Because before her was—
A train planet.
