Chapter 41: Chapter 41 - Curiosity of the sage
Dante walked back to the village and waited at the entrance. He closed his eyes, resting on the wall and practiced the surge inside his body.
His
eyes
saw the group was cautious and slowly walked toward the village. They stopped midway and went to check the magic they set up.
Dante stopped his practice and focused more attention on his eyes, trying to see who set up the magic.
He memorized the mana signature and noted down. Then, he went back to practice his mana. After waiting for thirty minutes, they entered his view.
Dante waved at the group. It was the same.
He thought the rebellion would get someone powerful to check their place. He was wrong. Dante frowned.
But he immediately shrugged off the displeasure and greeted Shizuku who was walking from the front.
He went ahead and shook her hands like a gentleman. It felt weird that he was being social in this setting.
Normally, this would be Julius’s job.
"Welcome. Do you want to take a rest?" He asked, putting on a smile.
Shizuku shook her head. "No need. Sir."
Dante was a bit taken back by her choice of words. He touched his face, trying to see if the time in his forest made his face grow old. He was not the type to grow facial hair.
"You can call me Dante. I don’t think I am older than you." Dante said.
Shizuku nodded. "I am sorry about that. I will remember."
Dante squinted his eyes and decided to ignore the strangeness he felt.
"If we are leaving now then, wait for a bit. I will go grab my friends." Dante said and walked away.
He entered inside his house and saw Thomas preparing.
"Yo!" Thomas said, wearing some kind of battle armor. It was kind of like minimalist armor that only covered his chest and shoulder.
He also wore knee pads similar to the design on the chest.
"Rebellion people are coming." Dante said.
Thomas thought for a moment and nodded as if he seemed to remember what Dante was talking about. "I see."
"So where is Julius?" Thomas asked, looking behind Dante.
"He is training his sword on the wall." Dante said, looking at Julius with his
eyes
.
The blond haired young man was dancing with his newly brought sword on the edge of the wall. He didn’t seem to notice the rebellion coming.
Dante and Thomas walked to the entrance.
Shizuku greeted Thomas with a simple bow and asked. "Where is the other one? Did he not want to join us?"
"He is a bit busy. I will call him." Dante said and turned to Thomas.
"Fire a flashy ball, big guy."
"Yes. Yes." Thomas said, extending his hands.
Without any built up, he fired a fire ball. As soon as the ball reached the height of the wall, it exploded into tiny sparks.
"Woah." Dante called out in delight. "When did you learn how to make that?"
"I just learned now. The inspiration came last night." Thomas touched his mustache.
Dante noticed a surprise on Shizuku’s face for a brief moment.
Julius appeared out of thin air and looked around. He saw the rebellion group and nodded. "So it is this time already."
Dante turned to Shizuku and said. "Well, we are all here."
Shizuku nodded and said. "Let’s go then."
She led the group and walked away from the village. Dante walked beside her and asked.
"How far is the place?"
Shizuku didn’t answer and checked her wrist. Dante looked at what she was checking and saw a watch.
"You guys have a watch?" He said. The watch didn’t seem to be from the Earth as he sensed mana coming from it.
"Oh this. Our artisan makes this. He made this when he got the profession." Shizuku said. "We should arrive at the base around 7 o’clock."
Dante nodded. He didn’t ask about the profession as he knew that this kind of information can be easily gotten from their base.
He didn’t want to appear strange to Shizuku as she was giving him a weird feeling right now.
They continued to walk at the pace where the previous people on Earth would call it running.
There was no conversation on the way as Shizuku’s group seemed to be in some order. Dante tried to converse with Shizuku but the woman was so boring.
’She is probably a dry texter.’ He thought.
He remembered something and glanced at the woman in front of him. According to Shizuku’s introduction, she was a scout. Probably, a really good one since Shizuku introduced her like that.
Dante closed his eyes, trying to remember her name.
’Lia? Loni? What is that?’
"You really are carefree." The short haired man beside Dante said.
Dante opened his eyes and turned around. "Why do you say that?"
"We are trespassing the monster infected area and you are taking it like a stroll." Mike said.
"I sense monsters around this place but it is not that dangerous." Dante said.
"Not that dangerous?" Mike rolled his eyes.
Dante nodded with a chuckle. He then thought about this. Sure, the monsters were starting to become populated near their village.
Right now, his eyes revealed a group of 20 monsters. Their mana level was not low either. In terms of mana, they were one level lower than the goblins chef.
"Yeah. You can outrun them if you encounter them." Dante said.
Mike mumbled a few words and backed away from him.
After a while, they met with the monster’s group. It was a small group of goblins. Small in a sense that when compared to the other group he saw on the way.
There were about 11 goblins.
Dante was a bit surprised by this. Not at the goblins. He knew about this encounter and choice not to speak out because this is the only safe way.
A small part of him wanted to check out the scout’s skill. And what he saw didn’t disappoint him. Instead he was even more impressed by that.
He knew they would encounter because of his unfair skill called
External eyes of the hunter.
He expanded the range of the eyes to 500 meters.
Dante whistled and looked at Shizuku who drew her bow.
"What is the plan?" He asked.
Shizuku glanced at him and let out a sigh. "I don’t know."
Dante tilted his head.
He saw Thomas about to step up but Julius stopped him. He mentally thanked Julius for realizing his curiosity.
Shizuku explained. "If I don’t add you guys into the equation, I can clear this goblin with my group."
"Okay. We won’t join." Dante said with a smile.
"Really? This is a free level." Mike said, taking out his sword.
Dante climbed the tree nearby. Thomas and Julius followed him.
"What are you plotting?" Julius asked.
"Nothing. I just want to see what they can do." Dante answered.
"Nothing interesting. We experienced their combat ability." Julius said.
Thomas nodded. "Their mana control is disgusting." His voice was filled with displeasure.
"I know. I am just interested in their magic spells." Dante admitted.
Dante crouched and looked at the group.
Shizuku and the scout girl took in the back, drawing their bows. The scout girl used a regular arrow from her quiver.
Dante saw her applied mana to the arrow without any technique. The arrow seemed to be made from some good material as it seamlessly absorbed mana.
Shizuku on the other hand didn’t carry a quiver. Instead she manifested the arrow and placed it on her bow.
This surprised Dante a lot.
He was struggling with the mana construction and yet she used it flawlessly. There was no natural mana attacking her arrow.
’Is this the effect of the leveling system?’ He said to himself. ’If so, I am a bit jealous.’
He let out a long sigh and continued to watch.
Under Shizuku’s command, which was her firing the arrow, the group began attacking the goblins.
Dante compared the two bow users.
Shizuku was more focused on power as her arrow exploded when it made contact with the goblin.
The scout was more skilled as she fired the arrows fixedly. She didn’t kill any goblin, instead used her arrows to give the three swordsmen some help.
His curiosity of the scout increased even further. He didn’t know why or how to express the feeling.
He looked up at Julius and said. "How are the swordsmen?"
Julius paused and opened his mouth.
"Be honest, Juli." Dante said.
Julius rolled his eyes and let out a sigh. "Bad."
He just said one word and Dante understood it. He ignored them and mainly focused on the two women.
After a while, all the goblins dropped to the ground and turned into the rainbow colored mist. Another interesting find for Dante.
His eyes then picked up an increase of mana in Mike. Then it stopped.
Mike smiled and fisted up at the sky.
"Do you level up?" Shizuku asked.
"Yes. I can now use 4 skills."
"Great. Don’t choose the skill yet."
"I know. I will ask Uncle Colin when we arrive at the base."
Dante jumped down from the tree and complimented their fighting power. Shizuku just nodded and resumed their short journey.
