Chapter 43: Chapter 43 - High Heaven
"Do you want to know your dad’s story?"
Dante looked at his father’s eyes and gave a slow nod. "Sure."
"Before this tutorial stuff, before everything. Before even you." His father pointed. "I was a young soldier fighting for the union under the name of greater good."
"But out in that war, there is no such thing as good. Only evil. People kill people. Nothing news but the way the Union killed was harrowing. They burned alive everyone, even the little one. I am grateful that I can stay sane after all that."
Dante smirked. ’Yeah. Yeah.’
"So? Do you get enlightenment?"
"Kind of like that. During my retirement years, the rebellion contacted me. At first, I was going to them but they convinced me."
"How?"
"They showed me proof. The things the union was hiding during before the fourth World War. Oh, it was a terrible thing. I wish I could show you but it is probably destroyed on Earth." His father said, filling in the empty glass.
Dante let out a sigh and rested his head. He closed his eyes and opened again, staring at the ceiling.
"Before we could execute our plan, the world fell." There was a bitter tone in his voice.
"How is your tutorial?" Dante asked, deciding to believe in his father. No matter how terrible of a parent he was, he knew his father never lied to him.
"Not that terrible compared to the things I faced. The first week was horrible since I don’t understand anything about this system." His father said, voice dripping with honey.
"I see. Do you know where mom is?" Dante asked, remembering her. He felt terrible that he forgot his mother. He cursed at himself.
This should be the first thing he said in this pointless conversation.
His father paused and muttered something to himself. He then looked at Dante and shook his head. "I don’t know, Dan. When the earth was destroyed, I was in a group meeting with the rebellion. So I got teleported here with them."
"I see, any news about her? With your network, I don’t see finding her would be a problem." Dante said, looking around at the room.
"Our researcher estimated that there are about 10k in this dome-like world. Currently, we have about 2k people in our connection including people from the Union and other factions."
"So, the remaining 8k we’re missing or somewhere deep in the forest."
His father nodded.
Dante glanced at his father and noticed that his father seemed to get younger. Of course, there were wrinkles on his face. But underneath his shirt he could see the outline of muscles.
"What are you planning with the rebellion? I know the general stuff like fighting with the Union."
His father nodded and brought the wine glass near him. He drank a little and savored the taste.
"We are currently planning on overthrowing the Union. That is the goal of the rebellion."
"This is the name? Seriously, does the group only have old people?" Dante rolled his eyes.
His father smiled. "We got that a lot from our youth fighters. But in order to fight the term called Union, we also need a firm term."
Dante nodded, not trying to fight his father for that.
"Currently, we are trying to recruit people into our faction. There were some people with no faction and they were our target."
"I thought there is no more. Shizuku said, the Union consumed them."
His father shook his head. "While part of it is true, I believe Shizuku exaggerated some. The Union is now hiding after the failed attempt at fighting the strongest faction."
Dante lifted up his brows, interested in this subject.
"There is another faction beside the two?" He said with a whistle. "She hides quite a lot of information. Tell her to not do that. It can be dangerous for her."
His father nodded. "I plan to but I want her to get some lessons out of it."
Dante understood what his father was saying. "I will give you that. Tell me about that faction."
"They called themselves, High Heaven."
"An arrogant name." Dante said. "But a good name. Much better than two generic names."
"Can you stop insulting the names? It is not like I made the name. Anyway, their leader is the strongest human in this tutorial. It is best not to mess with him."
"What is his name?"
"Toji Tendo. The Union suffered greatly from his attack and is now recovering."
"Then, it is best to attack then right?"
His father nodded. "I think so. But Toji interrupted our assault."
"Huh?" Dante didn’t understand the thought process behind that.
"I don’t know the reason but he prohibited any faction attacks for 4 months. He said he wanted to see the fight happening in the final month of the tutorial."
"How strong is he to do that?"
"He stopped the Union with one sword slash. The same went to our group. So, we are all preparing for the final month. I deployed a few of our best scouts to the Union."
"Good." Dante said, taking another sip.
"Is my friends welcome here right? I want to stay here for a bit."
"Of course, just try not to make enemies with us."
Dante chuckled. "I can’t promise."
His father’s eyes went cold for a split second and returned to normal.
"I have some plans for you but it looks like you are interested in it."
Dante stood up and went to the door. He shook his head.
"Remember what I said? I forge my own path."
"Then come to me when you need something. It will be a trade."
Dante thought and nodded. He opened the door and snapped his finger, releasing the mana from his hands.
It destroyed the magic spell his father deployed with pure mana force.
Dante suspected that the magic spell blocked the sound wave. But it also stopped him from opening the door.
"You can just ask."
"I forget." Dante said and opened the door.
He saw Shizuku standing beside the door. He turned around and looked at her.
He let out a sigh and said, "I want to talk with you."
Shizuku nodded. "Right now?"
Dante thought and shook his head. "No. How about tomorrow? You can find someone to give me a tour of this castle."
She nodded and looked at his father.
His father said. "No need to give a ."
Shizuku bowed. "Yes, Sir Nathan." She closed the door.
"Do you know my father?" Dante asked.
"He is the chief of this rebellion." She answered.
Dante scratched his head. "I am talking about stuff before the tutorial."
Shizuku nodded and said, "I only saw him meeting with my father. We never talked until this tutorial."
"Hmm.. Anyway, don’t trust him too much."
"He is your father right?"
Dante nodded. "That’s why I said don’t trust him. I learn everything from him and he is plotting something."
Dante parted away with Shizuku and went to the top of the tower. He continued to climb and reached the top.
He saw someone looking out.
"Who is there?" The man asked.
"I am a guest." Dante voiced before stepping into the top. He saw the man sitting under the small roof, looking out at the distance.
He glanced at Dante and went back to his job.
"What is with the cold shoulder?" Dante said. Maybe the alcohol was affecting him because he would never start a random conversation.
"It is cold. Best to reserve energy." The man said with monotone.
"Boring. What is your class?"
"Night watcher."
"And?" Dante pressed, knowing that there is a thing called profession.
The man finally looked at him and said, "You are doing a poor job at gathering information. The conversation should start naturally and there should be at least some alcohol added to it. While alcohol will make the target speak, it is not completely reliable. So people used another tactic called bribing. It is most effective when you select the best target. It is also the safest since there was risk from the target as well."
Dante listened to the man’s long rant and let out a sigh.
"I know. I know. What do you want?"
"500 points for the information regarding the system?"
"How do you know that I am looking for this kind of information?
"1000 points for that."
"Seriously."
"1500."
"Alright. Alright." Dante grabbed the man’s shoulder and transferred him 2k points.
The man checked his status and nodded in delight, probably seeing the points.
"You are a good man." The man said. "Come here. The snow didn’t fall under this roof."
Dante went and sat beside the man. He looked at the man and noted that the man was a fairly handsome man.
’Are all the people here handsome?’ He frowned.
"So where do you want to start?" The man said.
"Before that, how about we introduce ourselves? I am Dante."
The man looked at Dante’s hand and said. "I don’t shake hands with men."
Dante felt his lips twitch in sudden anger. He swallowed it and let out a sigh.
"You feel like a troublesome individual."
"Your observation skill is improving." The man said with a tone filled with sarcasm. "I am called Wallace."
"Nice to meet you Wallace. I believe tonight will be a calm day. I want to know about the class, profession and why you seemed to know about me."
Wallace cleared his throat.
