Chapter 484

Chapter 484: 485. Diagnosis complete
After settling the sacrifices and the surviving family, Lann went alone to the outskirts of Kausos, where he erected a stone tablet.
It declared that this village had been reduced to scorched earth due to the plague, and no living people should enter in the near future.
This was mainly to prevent Cassandra from coming over to investigate at Phoebe’s insistence.
Although that agile, beautiful woman, like a female leopard, seemed powerful and capable of fighting, and appeared to possess some power that Lann couldn’t discern.
But the Demon Hunter didn’t know if she, like him, could be immune to the disease.
Extraordinary power is indeed convenient, but it also has its limitations.
Just like a Warlock who can summon thunder with a wave of his hand can’t manage his hemorrhoids without potions and charms.
After finishing these tasks and returning to the charred two-story building, the priests also gathered enough supplies from the ruins to last the seven of them seven or eight days.
"Live separately. You will live on the first floor and be responsible for guarding, preventing them from escaping."
Lann first informed the priest and his guards on what to do, then turned to instruct the family of four.
"The plague can instill fear, and perhaps you may want to escape during this, but I hope you will approach my treatment rationally."
"Now, please go to your assigned positions, and we will begin immediately."
The priest and his guards responded solemnly and then walked vigorously around the small building as if guarding a sacred temple.
And the family of four obediently went upstairs.
After going upstairs, Lann began the diagnosis.
To call it a ’diagnosis’ isn’t entirely accurate, as Lann had never received any medical training.
He merely obtained biochemical knowledge from the memories of the Pharmacists of the Sons of the Emperor and then absorbed and modified it through his own gift and Alchemy knowledge.
The Pharmacists of the Interstellar Warriors hold tools as mighty as bone saws, far from resembling those of ordinary people’s doctors.
So compared to a doctor, Lann is more like a researcher.
But in this era, his knowledge level is so high that a slight crossover doesn’t matter.
"I will examine parts of your bodies and ask you questions, purely for treatment purposes, so there’s no need to resist or be afraid."
Lann first explained to the family what he was going to do, to alleviate their fear and subconscious resistance.
He began examining the family’s eyelids, tongues, and other areas one by one, trying to determine the pathological name of the plague.
They all had a morbid flush on their faces, with bloodshot conjunctiva in their eyes.
While Lann was examining, Mentos was responsible for recording the symptoms and comparing and filtering them against the existing knowledge base.
"You have lived in Kausos the whole time and witnessed the outbreak of the plague. Tell me, what were the manifestations of the patients before death?"
The two adults in the family of four exchanged glances, their faces showing intense emotions of fear and horror, as recalling past images seemed to cause them genuine pain.
"The plague drove them mad!"
The man said with a trembling voice.
"It started with fever and chills, which were nothing to say, just like a cold, but later... it must be that the plague seized and tainted their bodies!"
"They suddenly had superhuman strength and kept exerting it until their physical strength was exhausted!"
"And!" the woman interjected, "We were taking care of each other initially, and I felt their skin was not hot at all, but they seemed to feel like they were burning, even willing to strip naked and bury themselves in water!"
Their descriptions appeared mysterious and filled with intense fear.
But Lann did not show any unusual expression and continued examining step by step.
This is an era that deifies disasters and natural phenomena, so their descriptions are not surprising; rather, they are the norm.
Many diseases lead to agitation, delirium, and sensory disturbances due to nerve damage, which to ordinary people seems no different from being cursed into a monster.
Finally, after examining the little girl Zina, Lann murmured his conclusion.
"Typhus, most likely this."
In his mind, Mentos agreed with the main body’s diagnosis.
"Indeed, sir, they show obvious symptoms of rash, swollen lymph nodes, enlarged liver and spleen, and eschars from mite larvae bites."
This is an acute infectious disease and... difficult to treat.
It is defined as difficult to treat because the therapy for this disease generally requires high-efficacy chemically synthesized potions. And undoubtedly, neither this era nor this region has such conditions.
But for Lann—his talent in biochemical knowledge is not just for show.
"Begin establishing a new task, Mentos. Assist me in conducting alchemy experiments..."
The Demon Hunter stood up from his crouched examination posture and nodded lightly to the tense family of four.
A disease transcending the era seemed not to be a problem in his eyes.
"I have some ideas."
The biological AI methodically provided its support.
"Task received, ready to serve you at any time, sir."
Lann walked to the window of the two-story building, ready to jump out directly to attempt elsewhere.
He didn’t want to reveal more ’miracles’ in front of these people, like pulling a large pot and potion bottles out of a small pocket.
He used supernatural power to gain trust, not worship.
Lann jumped directly down, startling the guards, but after Lann waved his hand, they returned to their working state.
The Demon Hunter walked to a slightly farther place, preparing to start Alchemy.
In his keen hearing, he vaguely heard whispers behind him.
"He seems to have a good temper."
"Who can say for sure? The temper of Demigods and Sons of God can be good one moment and bad the next, haven’t you heard in stories? Entertained in your home happily one moment, then the next they kill you and take your beautiful wife, and so on."
"That’s true, but who do you think he’s the child of? Since he can control fire freely, I think he might be the child of the God of Fire and Forging."
"Nonsense!" another guard refuted disdainfully, "Everyone knows Hephaestus’s appearance, just look at his face!"
"Maybe Aphrodite’s bloodline is more dominant?"
"You might as well say he’s Asclepius’s child, treating the plague! There’s no other possibility except the God of Medicine."
"Who says? There are legends of sending children to learn by the sides of other gods, maybe he just learned by Asclepius’s side."
The two guards continued whispering.
And Lann rubbed his forehead, feeling his need to step out for Alchemy was quite necessary.
One’s identity isn’t entirely decided by oneself; societal recognition is what’s acknowledged.
He planned to leave immediately after curing the area’s plague, or else who knows what rumors might spread?
