Chapter 541: 543. Weird Arms
As soon as she entered the cave, Cassandra immediately understood what Lann meant by "strange" in his mouth.
The cave was very cold.
It wasn’t the kind of chill from lack of sunlight or the underground cold she was so familiar with she couldn’t be more familiar.
She often ventured into caves to kill bandits, as a way to earn extra money and help others.
This cold was something Cassandra, who lived in the Mediterranean Region, had never experienced before—a bone-chilling, razor-sharp cold!
The moss on the cave floor had frozen solid, and its moisture made the moss appear even more lush than when it was fresh.
Water droplets hung from the stalactites descending from the cave ceiling, frozen in that moment, while a fine layer of white frost spread over the cave walls.
"Hiss~"
Never having been in such an environment, Cassandra let out a breath of surprise, watching the white mist escape her mouth.
"It’s... so cold here!"
"Need me to get you some thick clothing?"
Lann brushed his fingers over the frost on the stone wall, the Roaring Bear Head Badge around his neck vibrating violently.
"Looks like this is indeed Hapalos’s stronghold. I’ve never seen such a scene in other caves."
"No, no need." Cassandra’s shoulders intermittently twitched sharply due to the low temperature, as her body uncontrollably shivered.
"I’ve never fought in thick clothing; it would affect my performance. I can handle this cold."
Lann turned to look at Cassandra and saw she wasn’t bluffing.
Though Lann had always doubted what Phoebe said about Cassandra’s demigod bloodline, today he had to admit, this woman’s body was indeed extraordinary.
After shivering a couple of times, she actually... completely adapted!
Wearing low-coverage armor from the Mediterranean, and this armor was made of metal.
In this environment, don’t mention warmth, they were basically radiators!
But she managed, in less than two minutes after entering, aside from complaining verbally, to make her body unaffected.
The exceptional endurance that Demon Hunters prided themselves on as a survival skill seemed... just ordinary in front of Cassandra.
Putting aside the astonishment for now, this was undoubtedly a good thing.
"Let’s keep going."
Lann didn’t draw the Lady of the Lake’s Sword from his waist, because he was equally fast and strong in drawing and swinging his blade.
Cassandra had already taken the broken spear from her back, the edge of the spearhead seeming to automatically discern light and darkness, at this moment not reflecting the sharp and eye-catching gleam.
This further confirmed Lann’s theory of "using supercomputers as blades."
The deep cave stretched downward, a natural cave with signs of human presence along the way.
Wooden ladders, platform shelves, fire pits... though now, all these artifacts were also covered in a layer of frost.
Beneath the frost, there was frozen blood.
The wind, passing through the cave structure, made a haunting, eerie sound that echoed continuously.
After advancing for a minute, they finally encountered the first enemy marked by Cassandra with her hawk’s eyes.
It was a man squatting in a corner, wailing alone.
No, it was unclear if it was wailing or crying for joy, because the man’s throat seemed clogged with phlegm, making his voice indistinct.
The sound mixed with the wind in the cave, drifting far away.
The cave was quite dark, and to ensure stealth, Lann and Cassandra hadn’t lit torches.
So Cassandra, looking at the man’s back now, only felt he seemed somewhat hirsute.
And his already simple clothing was further shredded as if clawed by a wild beast, hanging in strips on his dense body hair.
He was about the size of an ordinary savage soldier.
Cassandra crouched and sneaked up behind the man quietly.
As if doing something she’d done countless times, she locked his neck with her arm, dragged him back into the bushes, and then stabbed a broken spear into the neck or directly into the brain from the jaw.
Effortless and...
Hmm?!
When Cassandra placed her hand on the man’s shoulder, she suddenly felt she seemed to be pulling not a person.
But a bear!
Cassandra might not be familiar with human skeletal structure in professional terms, but she’d encountered enough, destroyed enough, to develop an instinctive recognition.
The feeling of this shoulder... wasn’t a human sensation!
"Roar!"
The "man" whose shoulder was gripped let out a roar almost impossible for human vocal cords, suddenly turning and charging at Cassandra.
Only then did they see the front of the man, realizing his arms had already grown enough to touch the ground while standing!
These weren’t human arms, they were simply bear arms attached to a human body!
The swinging bear paws whooshed, aiming directly at the head of the knocked-back Cassandra!
An adult grizzly’s swipe packs over a ton of force, capable of shattering a cow’s spine with a single blow.
And these arms attached to a human body, though visibly clumsy in motion, were heavy just by being bear arms!
If the paw struck a human head, the impact and knife-like claws could rip off a person’s entire face!
Cassandra was in a precarious state of imbalance now.
One of her feet had left the ground, the other barely had its tip touching, almost falling backward.
But at this perilous moment, the Amazon Shin Guards on her legs lit up with golden patterns.
"Bang!"
Her body was still in midair, but the Hawk Trainer, with only the tip of her foot touching the ground, mustered immense power.
Her imbalanced body instantly spun around, ducking the bear paw’s swipe!
The spearhead of the broken spear shone with a brilliant golden light, like a golden meteor, piercing into the enemy’s mouth with a "thud," sticking out a great length from the back of the brain!
After a short-range teleportation, Cassandra appeared again, already standing atop the enemy’s tall back, with a "rip" pulling out her spear from the back of his head.
The tall and misshapen body fell with a crash, and Cassandra gracefully leapt down from his back.
"Hey! You just stood there watching?"
The Hawk Trainer shouted discontentedly, as Lann leaned against the stone wall with a watching-the-show demeanor.
"Just wanted to let you get acquainted with your opponent first."
The Demon Hunter spread his hands, a smile on his face.
"You can’t possibly be unable to take on a bear, can you? Besides, strictly speaking, this guy wasn’t even a bear. You just got pushed because you were unaware of the situation."
Cassandra, hands on her hips, tilted her head looking at Lann for a moment, then laughed and swore.
"Pfft, Malaka."
