Chapter 570: 572. Impact!
Apparently, the Niflgaard soldiers also thought their reinforcements had arrived.
But they didn’t have the keen hearing of a Demon Hunter to detect something unusual in the cacophony of hoofbeats.
So, as the hoofbeats grew closer, an archer with a Niflgaard Short Sword continued to advance toward Dandelion.
Soon, the archer stood atop the small slope where the poet hid, looking down at him with mockery and malice.
As if watching an old hen about to go into the pot.
At that moment, Dandelion had just picked up another stone, ready to pop his head out and throw it.
He looked up and met the gaze of the archer.
In that instant, the poet, who had never experienced any battle, surprisingly showed some quick wit.
He erupted with the truest emotions of his life, pointing behind the archer with an expression of immense surprise.
But the archer only sneered coldly, taking step after step down from the top of the slope.
The Short Sword was at his side, seemingly ready to stab upward into Dandelion’s waist.
But... the hoofbeats were already very near.
Dandelion didn’t even have a chance to show his fear.
Because a fierce wind was being brought over by a giant shadow!
As it whooshed past him, it whisked away the sneering Niflgaard archer, just like a nightmare in a fairy tale.
So suddenly that even the stench from the archer’s mouth was still lingering at Dandelion’s nose a moment ago.
In the next moment, the archer was completely gone! Vanished!
From a distance, Ged and Geralt could see everything clearly.
A massive figure shot out from the forest, as swift as a gust!
As he passed by Dandelion, he plucked the archer as if picking up a candle, and charged straight back to the courtyard from which he came.
The Niflgaard man, armored and likely weighing a hundred kilograms, was like an empty tote bag in his hand!
"Lann?"
Geralt heard Ged’s unsure whisper.
Though the Grandmaster Bear School Armor with the bearskin collar was quite conspicuous; probably the only one of its kind in the world.
But the fact that Lann had grown from just over two meters during their last encounter to two-point-six meters in full armor... left Ged a bit doubtful.
And Geralt even more so.
The last time he met Lann, the young man hadn’t even visited Yan’an yet.
That was over a year ago.
So the White Wolf couldn’t connect the colossal figure in front of him with his previous acquaintance.
But regardless, it seemed they had a formidable ally aiding them... so they might as well fight back!
"Ged!"
Geralt shouted without turning his head, and the Bear School Demon Hunter responded heartily.
"Charge!"
Lann tossed aside the archer’s limp body.
During his sudden and violent pull earlier, the Niflgaard archer’s cervical vertebrae couldn’t withstand Lann’s strength and dislocated in the first second of contact.
Lann’s advancing speed was too fast; the few people remaining in the courtyard couldn’t react!
The corpse hurled by the Demon Hunter was like a light stick in his hands but weighed over a hundred kilograms!
The rolling body bowled over four Niflgaard archers and crossbowmen, turning them into tumbling gourds.
Lann didn’t immediately kill the fallen enemies but instead leapt directly over them.
The thudding footsteps were heavy and terrifying!
In the shocked eyes of a shield-bearing soldier, Lann appeared like a gigantic shadow leaping towards him!
"Boom!!!"
With a loud crash!
The steel shoulder plate of Lann’s Grandmaster Bear School Armor slammed directly into the large shield without slowing down!
The quality shield, made of solid wood joined with iron edges and covered with leather, burst into splinters upon impact!
The iron edging deformed, and the wood panels shattered...
"Argh!"
The Niflgaard soldier holding the large shield first had his arm twisted like a pretzel behind the shield’s grip, then had his internal organs crushed, spewing blood over the back of the shield.
A soldier in full armor, along with the large shield he held, was flung like a ragdoll by the impact!
It traced an arc in the air before crashing into the mud, lying limp and motionless.
Just as Ged and Geralt arrived, the sound of the shield being smashed echoed simultaneously, making them grind their teeth.
"Hiss~"*2
They’d seen shields break before, but not shattered like this!
...A humanoid Sheep-Horned Demon?!
But before they could finish expressing their surprise, two long swords, gleaming with a water-like sheen in the flickering firelight, whirled toward them.
Then, with a ’zing’, they stuck into the ground.
They were indeed two fine swords.
The wave-like patterns were composed of silver and black. The silver shone brilliantly, while the black was like smoke.
Almost by the instinct of a superb swordsman, the two Demon Hunters seized the hilts of the swords while charging, smoothly pulling them from the ground.
Ged’s powerful downward slash, combined with the excellent sword, actually cleaved another shield in half!
Together with half the shoulder of the soldier behind it.
As for Geralt, facing an enemy swinging an axe spear down at him, he turned and swung upward like in a dance.
The sturdy axe spear shaft seemed nonexistent before the new longsword.
The diagonal upward swing not only severed the axe spear shaft but also took with it the Niflgaard soldier’s arm and half the scalp in the path of the blade.
Next, Ged and Geralt naturally dealt with the crossbowmen and archers struggling to get up from the ground.
"This really is... an extraordinary sword."
Geralt marveled at the longsword in his hand, as for his bard friend?
...Since he wasn’t going to die, he was no longer a good friend, just a ’nuisance’ pestering him for material.
How could he possibly be more important than the fine sword in his hand, right?
"And the feel of this sword... I don’t even need to adapt! It fits perfectly!"
"If you look beyond the blade, you’ll see its pommel is a wolf’s head, Geralt."
Lann emerged from the distant shadows, his massive form casting a huge shadow and an oppressive aura.
"It’s made to resemble a Wolf School steel sword, and the feel makes you adapt automatically, indicating your skills are up to par."
"So it really is you!" Geralt exclaimed in surprise.
"Wow... did you take some experimental potion from the Warlocks? This is just too..."
From strength to speed to size, Lann had surpassed his understanding of humans and even Demon Hunters.
"It’s good to see you’re alright, White Wolf."
"You too, Lann."
Lann and Geralt clasped arms and then hugged briefly.
