Chapter 118: Sweetheart?
After two more hours, Anna flew back with her pet. This time, she was alone. She didn’t bring Zik here with her, simply because she did not need to.
They’ve transported the kids to their new home, safe and sound. Now, it was time for Zik and Jimmy to head home.
This came with complications. The three of them could not climb on Bonita all at the same time, as it would be dangerous. Even if Bonita was able to take off with over two-hundred kilograms, or way over four-hundred and forty pounds on her back, the odds of her crashing into the mountains were large. She had hollow bones, she was light weight for a lizard of her massive size, so she was not meant to carry anyone other than Anna.
In fairness, it was Gaark’s turn to climb on, and be flown home, but this came with complications.
For one thing, he was obviously scared of Bonita. The sheer size of her made him nervous, so they feared that he’d panic and run away if he got closer to her, nevertheless fly on her back.
Jimmy tried to prepare his brother for the flight, he told him, "You’re gonna be flying home now, Gaark, with Anna, or Hanna, as you like to call her. Do you think you can behave on the ride home? You’re gonna be way up there in the sky, so, you won’t get scared, or jump off, right?"
"Oh..." Gaark grunted, "I have to climb on the death dino? That doesn’t sound smart."
"Death dino, huh?" Anna repeated. "I like it."
Jimmy tried to stay focused. The food he ate helped him feel better, but he still felt nauseous, four hours after he got sick, which was annoying, and so he could barely focus on the topic at hand.
He pleaded, "Gaark, you have to trust me on this. Do you wanna see mother and father?"
"Yes, I miss them so much!" Gaark repeated, like a broken record. "I haven’t seen them in four summers, and five winters!"
"You’re gonna see them today," He added, "But I need you to relax, and behave once you’re up there in the sky, or else you can get really, really hurt. Do you understand me?"
"Yes," Gaark said, but he barely understood. "Death dino will hurt me if I misbehave."
This was not the answer they were looking for, but it was good enough. After some effort, they got Gaark to climb on top of Bonita’s back. He was laid on his stomach, hanging on with both his arms and his legs, and this was when Anna got creative.
She grabbed a long, green vine that Bonita had been holding on to with her hind legs, and started tying it around Gaark. Like a rope.
The vine was long, so she managed to tie it around him five times, securing him on the ride like he was a baby. He might as well be, because babies had far healthier brains than he did.
"Good job," Jimmy said. "Get my brother home safe, please."
"Of course I will," She patted him on the shoulder. "I came prepared, sweetheart."
"Sweetheart?" He repeated. "You never used that word on me before, or anyone, come to think of it. Are you trying to soften me up?"
"Yes?" She answered, with half a mind. "I love you, Jimmy. I’m gonna make you feel better as soon as we get home."
"You don’t need to butter me up, so cut it out, relax baby. But more importantly, do you feel better?" He asked, concerned. "I know Zik was running his mouth, and maybe he was right, but let’s not forget, this has been a tough day for you most of all. Gaark tells me that you were nearly killed today."
"Nearly," She emphasized. "But I won, as you saw. Bonita is okay too, she’s healthy, so yeah, I am feeling a lot better. No more homicidal thoughts, if that’s what you were worried about?"
"It was one of the things I was worried about, yeah. Guess those bastards should’ve known better than to hunt your pet, huh?" He asked, and then he started coughing.
"You’re still sick?" She looked at him, concerned. "Check yourself out, who knows what kind of disease you could’ve picked up down there. Could be dino AIDS or some other shit we never heard of. Can you heal yourself?"
"I think so," He answered, after coughing a few times. "I’m up at twenty percent mana, it should be enough."
"Don’t use it all up," She reminded him, "You might need it to protect yourself. You’re gonna be alone up here for the next two hours. I’ll fly as fast as I can, but your brother is heavy, so, it’ll be past dusk when I come back here."
"I’ll be fine," He insisted. "Go take my brother home, my parents are gonna be so happy to see him. In fact... wait."
Jimmy then walked towards Bonita, and poured a fourth of his mana on his brother, helping him fall asleep. This was the last safety measure they had to take, and it was a good one.
He said, "Gaark’s not going anywhere with those vines around him. Might as well make his trip easier, right?"
"Yeah, that’s smart." She nodded.
Afterwards, she kissed Jimmy on the lips, pulled back, and said, "You taste like vomit."
"No kidding," He chuckled, and he was a bit embarrassed. "Fly safe."
Anna then took off with her pet. Gaark was strapped on Bonita’s back, and he didn’t immediately fall off either, which was a good start. He should be getting home safely.
Jimmy then sat down, and listened to his own heartbeat. He wanted to figure out what was bothering him the most, so he could get rid of it, while hopefully preserving the fifteen remaining percent of his mana reserves.
With two hours to kill, he had nothing better to do anyway. So he kept his eye on the mountainside, and tried to figure out what was wrong with him. If he has contracted some sort of bug, he wanted to get rid of it before it became a real issue.
Jimmy tried to focus, but then he saw a familiar figure walking towards him, from far away. He blinked rapidly, hoping that his eyes were playing tricks on him, but no, he was being approached by one of The Invisible.
