Boxing God-Chapter 237: The Mysterious Girlfriend

Chapter 237

Eight hundred thousand!
That was outrageous! Even if Jason Luo’s fight purse was advanced, it still wouldn’t be enough. Harold Huo was so furious he nearly fainted on the spot...
But the casino clearly had no intention of giving Sost any face. With Tony in their hands and Jason unable to use force, they had him completely cornered.
It seemed there was only one thing left to do—try his luck.
Even now, Jason had no real idea what kind of background Catherine came from. But the last time they met, even the police captain had called her “Miss,” which meant she wasn’t someone ordinary. Still, he wasn’t sure whether she had any connections in Atlantic City that could actually help.
Jason’s thought process was simple: money doesn’t fall from the sky. And there was no way he could scrape together that kind of cash in such a short time. The only chance was to find someone who could step in, haggle down the amount, and get Tony out first.
He stepped out of the room and immediately called Catherine, but no one answered. Was she at a match?
This was bad!
Then, just a few minutes later, Catherine called him back. “Just finished training and taking a shower. Heh, I smell great. Want a sniff, dear?”
“Uh, Catherine, listen—something serious came up, and I really need your help if you’re free.” He quickly explained everything that had happened.
“Three Guns Casino? Hold on, I’ll call you back,” she said, and hung up.
Jason was on edge. A yes or a no would’ve been better than this silence. What was going on? Did she go back to the shower again?
But less than five minutes later, Catherine called again. “Hmph, only think of me when you need something, huh? Anyway, this isn’t a big deal. It’s just one of the King of Spades’ casinos. Though... I might have some rather complicated ties with a few people there—it could look a bit awkward for me to interfere.”
Jason wanted to tear his hair out. “Come on, my dear, Tony’s my best friend! Please, just help me out this once. If you can get them to settle for six hundred thousand, we can manage the rest. Do you think you can pull it off?”
“Six hundred thousand? That’s it? Your brother is my friend too—he’s only worth that much? Hand the phone to their boss, Edikbao. I’ll transfer him five million right now! Let’s see if he dares to take it!”
Jason nearly dropped his phone. Was she serious?
Was this her idea of solving a problem?
“Wait, are you sure this is a good idea?”
“Just do as I say. Get their boss on the phone.”
“But... we haven’t met the boss. Only the manager’s here.”
“What an attitude. Fine, have him take the call then.”
Jason felt uneasy, but desperate times called for desperate measures. He returned to the office and handed the phone to the casino manager. “Someone wants to speak with you.”
The manager frowned as he took the phone. “Who is it? Listen, this won’t help. You’d better just prepare the money! Hello? Who’s this?”
“What? You want to pay five million? And have our boss come collect it himself? You’ve got some nerve! What did you just say... buy a cemetery plot?”
The manager shot to his feet, face red with anger. “You’ll pay for that! Who the hell are you?”
“What? Say that again... Wait... oh!” The manager froze, staring at Jason in shock. “This... this is a misunderstanding, Miss! Please, calm down! Alright, alright—I’ll get the boss right away! Don’t be angry... yes, I promise... right away!”
Unable to sit still, he shouted, “Someone, come here!”
Jason tensed, thinking they were about to start a fight, but instead the manager barked out, “Quickly, treat these gentlemen with the utmost respect! Our boss will be right down. Oh, and let me borrow your phone for a moment...” He snatched the phone and bolted out of the room.
Everyone stood frozen, stunned by the sudden turnaround. The change in attitude was too extreme! Sost looked particularly uneasy—and more than a little annoyed at Jason. If he had such powerful connections, why make them all come and suffer humiliation?
Rod and Harold Huo were equally bewildered. Who on earth had Jason called? In a casino like this, ordinary favors didn’t mean a thing. A single phone call changing everything—it was hard to believe.
Moments later, the manager and the casino owner came jogging over. The manager hurried to hand the phone back, but Edikbao shoved him aside. “Ah, Mr. Luo! What a misunderstanding! Don’t worry, your friend will be right out. We may have treated him poorly these last two days—please don’t take offense. It’s just... the nature of our business, you understand.”
Jason was speechless. Just what kind of background did Catherine have? Could her father really be some sort of mob boss? The influence she carried was unreal!
Their efficiency was impressive. Before long, Tony was brought out. Jason’s heart sank—after only two days, his friend already looked exhausted, his face bruised and eyes dull. Clearly, he’d suffered plenty.
Harold Huo rushed forward, checked his son over, and when he confirmed there were no serious injuries, he punched him hard. “You worthless brat! If Jason’s family hadn’t fought to save you, you’d be dead here!”
Jason quickly stopped him. “Uncle Huo, let’s deal with that later. Tony, tell me the truth—who’s behind this? Who wanted to hurt me?”
Tony snapped his head up. “Jason, I didn’t do what they told me! How did you find out?”
“Come on, I’m not an idiot. I figured it out.”
Tony shook his head. “I don’t know them! It was an old man with two bodyguards. But the people here should know who they are. That old man—I’d never seen him before. He was with that guy!”
He pointed at Edikbao.
Jason turned to the boss. “Boss, do me a favor—I’d like to meet this person who’s causing me trouble. Can you arrange that?”
Edikbao hesitated. “That... I can’t tell you. We have rules here. Otherwise...”
Jason grabbed the forty thousand cash on the floor and placed it on the table. “I need to meet them today. This money should at least buy me a name, right?”
“No, no, no—you misunderstand. This isn’t about money...”
Just then, Jason’s phone rang again—it was Catherine. “Jason, how’s it going? Did they release him? If they’re still stalling, I’ll send someone over.”
“They released him, but I’m trying to find out who’s behind it. The boss isn’t talking...”
“Really? Then let me speak to him.”
Jason handed over the phone, but Edikbao didn’t take it. After a long hesitation, he said quietly, “I really can’t say. I’m sorry.”
But as he spoke, his eyes kept darting toward the VIP lounge on the second floor.
Jason caught on immediately—the office was probably bugged. And if this fox realized Jason knew, he’d definitely try to escape.
Jason calmly took his phone back. “Forget it, Catherine. The boss has his reasons. We’ll think of something else. I’ll call you later.”
Then he grabbed Tony’s arm and charged straight toward the VIP lounge upstairs...
