Boxing God-Chapter 246: Not Quite Ideal

Chapter 246

It wasn’t until late that night that Jason Luo finally had a moment to check his system notifications. He remembered hearing a whole string of alerts during the day—he just hadn’t had time to look. What kind of rewards would he get this time?
“Ding! Congratulations on your first successful World Championship Challenge! The Greedy Wolf talent has automatically extracted the following superior attributes from your opponent: Reaction +2, Coordination +2, Punch Speed +3, Explosiveness +2, Recovery +2, Dodge Prediction +2, Jab Power +2, and Cross Power +1. Please review promptly.”
“Ding! Congratulations on earning your first World Champion title! The system grants an exceptional reward of 5 free attribute points and 1 high-level reward draw. Please check your inventory.”
“Ding! Your reputation has met all advancement conditions. You have unlocked the Renowned Reputation achievement. The system rewards you with one advanced title upgrade point, which can be used to upgrade any intermediate title. Please make use of it.”
Well, that was a world title challenge—the rewards were definitely generous. Still, David Morell had only yielded 16 attribute points, and not even one point of Vitality. That was disappointing. Facing such a “paper champion,” Jason couldn’t tell if it was good luck or bad luck...
Scrolling further down, he found the new title bonus:
WBA Regular World Champion Honor – (Intermediate Champion Deterrence Effect: +3% to all attributes when facing lower-ranked challengers.)
Hmm… It wasn’t bad—it would prevent him from being harassed by weaker fighters—but the actual effect wasn’t huge. Jason wasn’t planning to sit back and defend his belt anyway. A washed-up champion might take two mandatory defenses a year and coast on the title’s prestige, but at nineteen? He had no intention of growing old on a throne.
The 5 free attribute points were a nice bonus. Added to the 3 he already had, he now had 8 in total—enough to get creative. Maybe he could finally test the limits of the system’s stat cap?
He opened the attribute panel and examined it carefully:
System User: Jason Luo
Age: 19
Height: 184 cm
Reach: 187 cm
Weight: 79.8 kg
Occupation: Level 1 Professional Boxer
Honors: North American Intercontinental Champion (Basic Champion Deterrence Effect: +2% to all attributes when facing lower-ranked challengers.)
Reputation: Widely Renowned
System Talents:
Greedy Wolf Power (Intermediate)
Absolute Evasion (Intermediate Rare Talent – Basic)
Agile Physique (Intermediate Minor Talent)
Victory in Adversity (Intermediate Rare Talent – Intermediate)
Boxing Core Attributes:
Strength: 25
Stamina: 28
Boxing Technique: 25
Footwork: 26
Reaction: 23
Punch Speed: 27
Coordination: 26
Explosiveness: 21
Recovery: 22
Dodge Prediction: 21
Toughness: 32
Jab Power: 27
Cross Power: 31
Willpower: 17
Vitality: 24
Free Attribute Points: 8
Professional Boxing Rating: A-Class
His highest stats were still Toughness and Cross Power. Jason figured the system’s max value was probably 40. If he dumped all eight points into Toughness, that might cap it out completely...
But he hesitated. Maxing out Toughness didn’t mean invincibility. Sure, he could endure heavy punches from elite opponents, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t outscore him on points. If he became too reliant on taking hits, he’d just turn into an unbreakable punching bag—impressive to watch, maybe, but still a punching bag.
Better to think this through. Coach Pedro’s words echoed in his mind: toughness wasn’t absolute. A solid body could still crumble under a critical blow. You couldn’t rely on defense alone.
Next, there was the advanced title upgrade point—no real choice here. He used it immediately.
“Ding! Your intermediate offensive title Brave Roar has successfully advanced to the high-level offensive title Life or Death Charge!”
[Life or Death Charge] – Advanced Offensive Title
Can be used in any environment. Requires the user’s blood as a trigger for activation. Use with caution.
Once activated: Strength +5, Punch Speed +3, Explosiveness +5, Recovery +3, duration 30 minutes. Pain reception is disabled. During activation, the user ignores all non-lethal damage and continues counterattacking until the opponent is completely neutralized. Cannot be reactivated for 24 hours after deactivation.
Jason stared blankly. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Reading the description, his mind flashed to Gatti and Valero—fighters who went berserk in the ring. This was pure suicide-mode aggression. Way too extreme.
“Yeah... no. Definitely not using that unless it’s life or death.” He shook his head. “Killing a thousand while losing eight hundred yourself? I’ll pass. Should’ve kept Brave Roar—at least that one was practical.”
This reward... wasn’t great.
He still had one high-level draw left. His first ever. Should he risk it? If his luck turned sour now, it’d be a total waste. Tonight just didn’t feel like a lucky night...
Better to wait.
But lying in bed, curiosity gnawed at him until he couldn’t sleep. “To hell with it,” he muttered. “Maybe tomorrow’s luck will be even worse.”
He rolled out of bed, tiptoed to the bathroom, and washed his hands three times. Then, lighting incense before his mother’s photo, he returned to his room, shut the door tight, and whispered a prayer. “Please, let it be a high-tier talent point. That’d be perfect.”
He initiated the draw.
A blinding cascade of light filled his mind—gold flaring across his vision.
“Congratulations! Your luck is through the roof! You’ve obtained the advanced ultimate skill [Life Burn]! Keep it up!”
Jason’s heart skipped. That golden flash had stirred something electric in him. The system rarely praised rewards outright—this had to be something huge.
[Life Burn] – Burn your own Vitality to forcibly enter a state of Life Ascension. All attributes increase by 30%. Must be manually activated. Each activation consumes 10 Vitality points. Duration: 3 minutes. No cooldown.
Jason felt like crying.
“What the hell is with today’s luck?!”
Did the system have a death wish for him? First Life or Death Charge, now Life Burn?
Vitality again. Always Vitality!
He only had 24 points saved up. Each activation required 10 points. Sure, it was powerful—but two or three uses, and he’d burn himself to death!
He couldn’t sleep before drawing, and now he definitely couldn’t sleep after. He slapped himself lightly. “Serves me right... why couldn’t I just leave it alone?”
Objectively speaking, Life Burn was an incredible ability. A 30% boost to every attribute could overwhelm almost any opponent. But the price was too steep. Compared to Victory in Adversity, it wasn’t even efficient—it just boosted stats and nothing else. Jason felt deeply unsatisfied.
“Oh well,” he sighed. “You reap what you sow. At least it’s another trump card. Maybe someday I’ll figure out a way to recover Vitality faster. Then things might be different.”
He sighed again, rubbing his temples. Tomorrow he still had to fly to Princeton.
And just the thought of Catherine gave him a headache.
At nineteen, he still couldn’t make sense of his own feelings. She was smart, beautiful, and kind—but something between them felt... distant. Like an invisible wall he couldn’t quite explain.
