Chapter 104

Chapter 104: Chapter 104: All the Men Treat Her So Well
Evening, in the lobby of a five-star hotel under the Hawke Corporation.
The lights were dazzling, guests gathered in crowds.
The men were dressed in suits, and the women in flowing dresses.
It was quite a bustling and prosperous scene.
This was precisely the banquet hosted by Vinny Hawke.
The entrance was lined with beautiful receptionists.
Wearing matching uniforms, they formed a bright and beautiful landscape.
Elara Don stood on the other side, wearing a simple white shirt and black trousers, receiving guests alongside them, somewhat out of place.
"Hello, please sign here."
Elara Don instructed the incoming guests to sign the registration book.
Couples of male and female guests kept entering with enthusiasm.
She glanced at the air vent above her head and moved aside, somewhat unable to stand it.
She was a perfumer, and tonight Vinny invited her to be an aromatherapy lecturer for a segment in the banquet.
But just before the opening, Hawke Corporation claimed they were short on staff, asking her to be a receptionist along with the Hawthorne Beauty employees.
She knew Vinny just found an excuse to boss her around.
Alright, when under someone’s roof, one has to bow one’s head.
She hoped the banquet would end soon.
"Elly."
Leia Quinn’s voice sounded in her ear.
Elara Don looked up to see Leia Quinn walking gracefully towards her, holding Craig Landers’s arm.
Leia Quinn was wearing a starry blue floor-length evening gown today.
The strapless and waist-clinching design accentuated her shapely figure.
The luxurious fabric was adorned with sequins, glittering under the light with star-like sparkles.
Particularly eye-catching.
Elara Don’s eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, "Kiki, you’re so beautiful!"
This was the first time she’d seen Leia Quinn dressed so grandly.
Her short hair complemented the starry blue evening gown perfectly, highlighting her aloof elegance.
Unapproachable.
"It took me three hours, such a hassle."
Leia Quinn lifted her long skirt, giving Craig Landers a sidelong glance, "If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t bother with this trouble."
Obviously, this was arranged by Craig Landers for her.
Elara Don chuckled softly, knowing her friend was someone who pursued simplicity.
She rarely attended such events.
She came today, likely because she was worried about her.
A bit touched.
She looked towards Craig Landers and nodded slightly at him.
"Mr. Landers, since Kiki is your date tonight, please take good care of her."
"Of course, Elly, don’t worry."
Craig Landers finished signing and glanced at Leia Quinn, moving closer with a charming smile, "Darling Cindy, do you feel like a star being the center of attention? Trust me, you look stunning today."
Her outfit was arranged by him without any room for refusal.
She did feel the eyes around her.
But those looks...
"Mr. Landers, I didn’t feel any superiority. All I sensed were sympathetic gazes. They must be thinking, who am I to catch the eye of a peacock like you."
Leia Quinn mercilessly retorted.
Craig Landers was momentarily speechless, staring at Leia Quinn.
This woman, always being rude to him.
Sympathetic gazes?
Is being noticed by him that dreadful?
Clearly envious and admiring gazes, right?
"Ahem."
Elara Don observed their interaction, couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
She quickly cleared her throat, glancing at Leia Quinn and blinking to cover up.
Leia Quinn remained indifferent, feeling the breeze overhead and unconsciously touched her arm.
"Elly, why are you standing here? Aren’t you cold?"
Elara Don shrugged helplessly.
She had already tried to avoid the air vent.
But, unfortunately, the air conditioner was powerful.
"Here, put this on."
Craig Landers took off his jacket and draped it over Elara Don.
The man wore a white shirt with a black vest.
Looking elegant and charming.
His hair meticulously styled.
His handsome face carried a smile, appearing even more devilishly charming under the light.
"Thank you, Mr. Landers."
Elara Don sincerely thanked.
"You’re welcome, I’m a gentleman after all."
Craig Landers adjusted the jacket on her while complimenting himself, not forgetting to glance at Leia Quinn.
Seemingly saying it for her to hear.
Childish.
Leia Quinn silently cursed, though she didn’t show it on her face.
Besides, this man was indeed considerate sometimes.
"Oh, isn’t this Mr. Landers? So gentlemanly to women."
A woman’s voice came to her ear.
Leia Quinn looked over and recognized Melody Lane.
She knew Melody Lane was Evan Miles’s sister-in-law and not friendly towards Elara Don.
Craig Landers gave her a casual glance, apparently not recognizing her much.
He stood with his hand in his pocket, accompanying Leia Quinn to the side.
Melody Lane wore a black evening dress, draped with a cream-colored jacket, holding a purse, walking gracefully.
Her gaze swept over Elara Don, a flash of coldness in her eyes.
"Miss Collins, please register."
Elara Don casually picked up the register book for her to sign in.
Melody Lane took the pen, sizing her up.
"Charlotte Soo, aren’t you a perfumer? Why are you doing reception work?"
Such a vixen.
Why are all men so good to her?
"Work requirement."
Elara Don replied calmly.
"I see! Then could you please take care of this jacket for me?"
Melody Lane took off her outer jacket and tossed it to Elara Don with a cold arrogance, "By the way, remember, this is a latest Chanel, I just had it brought over from abroad, don’t get it dirty. Otherwise, I’m afraid you can’t afford to pay for it."
Such a condescending attitude, treating Elara Don like a servant.
Elara Don took the jacket, her brow furrowing slightly.
Just when she was about to speak, Leia Quinn suddenly exclaimed.
"Oh my, is this pen out of ink? Why can’t I write with it?"
Elara Don was startled, watching Leia Quinn vigorously shaking the pen.
Then, the ink from the pen splashed onto Melody Lane’s jacket.
Elara Don: "..."
No way!
The jacket Melody Lane just handed her got dirty this way!
She was just reminded about it!
Could someone be doing this on purpose!
"Oh no! Let me see if I accidentally stained the latest Chanel?"
Leia Quinn widened her eyes, taking the jacket from Elara Don to check, seeing the black ink seeping into the cream-colored jacket, she looked apologetic.
"I’m really sorry, Miss Collins, it’s all my fault. I didn’t mean to dirty your jacket."
Melody Lane’s expression changed, she snatched her jacket and looked at the stain, her chest heaving in anger.
"I just put on this jacket today, and you’ve gotten it dirty. What are you going to do about it!"
"What else can I do? Of course, I’ll compensate you... for the dry-cleaning fee!"
Leia Quinn raised an eyebrow, "Let me think, how much does dry-cleaning cost? Twenty? Or thirty? Well, I’ll be generous and compensate you a hundred."
