Chapter 255: Chapter 255: He’s Not a Cold and Heartless Man
"Cindy, are you okay?"
Craig Landers didn’t follow Wright Landers but instead walked quickly to Leia Quinn’s side, asking with concern.
Leia gave him a glance and said quietly, "You don’t blame me?"
"Why should I blame you?"
Craig took the coat handed over by a servant, not putting it on himself but draping it over Leia.
Surrounded by the familiar scent of the man, Leia’s eyes slightly moved.
"I was the one who pushed her into the water, don’t you blame me?"
"You pushed her into the water? Really?"
Craig patted the water stains on himself and asked a question.
It seemed like he didn’t believe it at all.
Leia clutched at her clothing, "You don’t believe me?"
"You’re not that type of person."
Craig raised his eyes, speaking softly.
Leia’s heart was in turmoil, staring at Craig in disbelief at what she heard.
He said she’s not that type of person.
He wasn’t fooled by Selena Taylor’s white lotus act!
But...
"Then why did you rush to save her earlier?"
He just said he believed she’s not that kind of person, right?
In his heart, he’s actually still blaming her, right?
"Cindy, even if it was a passerby who fell into the water today, I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. Do you wish for me to be a cold, unfeeling man?"
Craig understood Leia’s thoughts.
She was jealous.
She thought he went into the water to save Selena because he couldn’t forget her?
But he had truly moved on from Selena.
The man was drenched all over, his dark eyes exceptionally bright in the night.
Leia’s inner turmoil slowly dissipated, feeling she was being foolish.
She couldn’t doubt Craig just because he saved Selena.
He was right; he wasn’t a cold, unfeeling man. Even if it was a passerby, he would have jumped in to rescue them.
The most important thing is, after saving her, he wasn’t as anxious as he used to be.
Isn’t that telling enough?
Leia felt relieved.
She smiled, draping the coat over Craig, then took out her phone from her pocket.
"Leia, if I said you killed the child in my womb, what would happen..."
The phone played a conversation between two people.
Leia looked at Craig and said, "I kept a backup because I was afraid she’d frame me again. So, my phone has been recording all along."
Craig listened to the conversation from the phone, sighed, and pulled Leia into his arms.
"Sorry, Cindy, it was my failure to handle things right and caused you distress."
He didn’t realize Selena was so persistent, even after having a child with his brother, she still thought about him.
Perhaps he was too charming.
But he didn’t feel honored by it, rather thoroughly annoyed.
"Alright, you should go change clothes quickly, don’t catch a cold."
Leia felt Craig’s wet clothes and spoke gently.
Craig released Leia, laughed, "Wife, you’re worried?"
"Don’t say nonsense, who’s your wife?"
Leia coquettishly replied.
"You agreed to my proposal, how are you not my wife?"
Craig raised his eyebrows, "Oh, I get it, you’re indirectly telling me that we haven’t made it official yet, so we’re not lawfully married, right?"
"Craig, is that what I meant?"
"Is that not what you mean? Wife, let’s get married tomorrow."
"I don’t want to."
"I want to!"
"..."
At the hospital, Wright Landers paced anxiously in the emergency aisle, waiting for Selena Taylor’s exam results.
The door to the emergency room opened, and the doctor came out.
"Doctor, how is she?"
Wright asked anxiously.
"The adult is fine, but we couldn’t save the child."
The doctor offered condolence, then left.
The child was gone!
He’d only been an expectant father for a few days and lost his child.
Wright stood there in a daze for a long time before a gloomy expression overtook his face.
It was all Leia Quinn’s fault!
She pushed Selena into the river, causing him to lose his own flesh and blood!
This ruthless woman, he would see her dead!
"Bro, how’s sister-in-law?"
Craig Landers, after changing his clothes and letting Leia go home first, came to the hospital.
Wright turned slowly towards him, his eyes full of malice.
"I lost my and Selena’s child, and it’s all because of that woman you brought! Craig, where is she? I’m going to kill her!"
Wright grabbed Craig’s collar as if he wanted to eat him alive.
Craig grimaced, "Bro, calm down. Let me play something for you."
He couldn’t let Wright misunderstand Leia Quinn.
He needed to reveal the truth to him.
Craig had Leia send him the recording and played it for Wright.
He had a clear conscience but couldn’t allow Selena to frame others again and again.
Wright listened to the recording on the phone, his face turning terrifyingly dark.
After a while, he walked slowly towards the ward.
Craig opened his mouth to say something but eventually said nothing.
This was a matter between husband and wife, and he would have to process it himself.
In the ward, Selena woke up after the anesthesia wore off.
When she saw Wright standing by her bed, staring at her intensely, she inexplicably shrank back.
His gaze was eerie and unsettling.
Selena touched her abdomen, which was flat, unsure if the child was gone.
"Miles, is our child still there?"
Selena weakly asked.
Wright looked at her steadily, saying, "The child is gone."
The child was really gone!
Selena felt joy in her heart but feigned extreme pain on her face.
"Our child is gone? My poor baby, only a few days into this world, gone to heaven already? It’s all Leia Quinn’s doing, she didn’t like me and hurt our child!"
Selena cried miserably, and Wright, standing by, had red-rimmed eyes.
He wasn’t sympathizing with her but thinking about the child who had gone to heaven.
The one who sent the child to heaven was his own mother!
This vicious woman, how could she be so cruel!
"Selena, stop pretending, Leia never pushed you into the water. You deliberately lost our child. Do you hate having a child with me that much? I will show you the result of your cruelty!"
Wright’s voice was cold and frightening, full of chilling intent.
As he turned to leave, a trace of panic crossed Selena’s eyes.
"Miles, don’t leave, explain what you mean! It was Leia who pushed me, she caused our child’s death!"
What happened?
Why was Wright so sure it was she who lost her own child, and not Leia?
What would he do to her?
What should she do?
...
The next day.
At the Hawke Group.
"What’s with Mr. Hawke today? Why is he angry all the time? It’s scary!"
"Isn’t it? I’ve never seen Mr. Hawke this furious."
"I get like that when I’m fighting with my boyfriend, or on the verge of breaking up."
"You mean, Mr. Hawke got dumped?"
"..."
The whole building of Hawke Group knew Damon Hawke was in a bad mood today.
They were all speculating whether Damon had broken up with someone.
Elara Don sat at her desk, enduring all the looks from everyone, her expression indifferent.
She and Damon Hawke, weren’t they just breaking up?
Except for the fact that "break up" should have quotes around it.
