Chapter 296: Chapter 296: I Won’t Let Him Threaten Us
"Let go of me! Tom, don’t leave! Mom, make him stay."
Watching Damon Hawke get into his car after exchanging just a few words with Eleanor Shaw, without even glancing at her, Evelyn Miles struggled and shouted loudly at Eleanor Shaw.
Eleanor Shaw’s face turned pale as she watched Damon’s car disappear in a cloud of dust. Realizing what had happened, she raised her hand and slapped Evelyn Miles hard.
"Samantha, get a grip! Look at yourself now! Come back with me!"
The slap landed heavily.
Evelyn Miles was stunned, stars bursting before her eyes, her cries abruptly cut off.
Eleanor Shaw’s hand was shaking; she supported the dazed Evelyn and quickly helped her into the car.
She was in utter chaos.
Her mind was blank, unsure of what to do next!
The phone rang.
Eleanor Shaw glanced at the incoming call and it was as if she found a savior.
"Luke."
Hearing Eleanor’s choked voice, Gabriel Miles quickly asked, "Eleanor, what’s wrong?"
Eleanor started the car and glanced at Evelyn, who sat beside her in a daze. "Come over to my house first, and we’ll talk."
The secret of their family of three had been uncovered by Damon Hawke. What should they do next?
She could only seek Gabriel Miles’s advice!
Eleanor hung up the phone and sped all the way home.
Evelyn Miles, lost in her thoughts, appeared deeply dazed.
Eleanor felt a mix of urgency and heartbreak as she helped Evelyn upstairs and gave her medicine.
"Sweetie, be good, let’s take the medicine first, and then sleep for a while, okay?"
Her daughter’s illness was getting worse.
Should she send her to a psychiatric hospital?
But if she did, her life would be ruined!
Who would marry a woman with a mental illness in the future?
Evelyn sat there, silent and refusing to open her mouth.
Eleanor put the pill into her mouth and coaxed her gently, finally making her swallow it.
"Good girl, let’s lie down and sleep for a while."
Eleanor again helped Evelyn lie down and tucked her into bed.
Evelyn Miles stared vacantly at the ceiling, not uttering a sound.
She seemed like a walking corpse.
Eleanor felt incredibly distressed.
She reached out to close Evelyn’s eyes and sang a lullaby to coax her to sleep.
Not long after, a servant knocked on the door.
"Madam, Master Gabriel is here."
Gabriel Miles had arrived.
Eleanor sniffed, glanced at Evelyn, who appeared to be asleep, and got up to leave the room.
Downstairs, Gabriel Miles was slowly coming up.
"Eleanor, what’s happened?"
Eleanor’s eyes were red, signaling him to follow her to the study.
Once inside, Eleanor grabbed Gabriel’s hand tightly.
"Luke, what do we do? Damon Hawke has found out everything. He just warned me to keep an eye on Evelyn and not to interfere with his relationship with Elara Don, or he’ll expose Evelyn’s background and our relationship."
"What! What’s going on?"
Damon Hawke had discovered Evelyn’s background!
Gabriel Miles’s old eyes narrowed, asking hurriedly.
Eleanor Shaw explained how Evelyn had had an episode at the Hawke Group and how Damon Hawke had warned her.
Gabriel’s face grew somber.
This Damon Hawke was indeed difficult.
People like him were vicious predators, eyeing them intently.
It’s enough to make one lose sleep and appetite.
He must be eliminated!
A flash of cruelty appeared in Gabriel Miles’s eyes as he held Eleanor’s hand, comforting her, "Don’t worry, I’ll think of something. I won’t let him threaten us."
Despite hearing this, Eleanor’s anxiety didn’t lessen.
"Luke, I don’t feel secure at all, I just have a feeling that something bad is going to happen."
She had lived a life of luxury until now, envied by all as a celebrated actress.
With a happy family and marriage, she was admired by many women.
But if the scandal about her and Gabriel was exposed, revealing her affair with her uncle, everything would crumble.
The fame she’d built over half a lifetime would collapse in an instant.
Everything she held would turn to dust.
She would become the subject of gossip and ridicule.
She didn’t want to live in such a situation!
"Eleanor, don’t be afraid, trust me, I’ll make sure things don’t go any further. I’ll find a way to make Damon Hawke keep quiet."
Gabriel Miles held Eleanor’s shoulders, his face cold and ominous.
Eleanor stared at him, vaguely understanding something.
"To make him keep quiet, Luke, are you suggesting?"
Only a dead man stays silent, only a dead man keeps the secret forever, isn’t it?
Gabriel’s mouth curved into a cold sneer, about to speak when suddenly there was a crash from Evelyn’s bedroom.
Both of them were startled, Eleanor hurriedly said, "Luke, Evelyn is having an episode again."
Gabriel Miles furrowed his brow, quickly opened the door to the study, and rushed to Evelyn’s room.
Inside, Evelyn Miles was frantically smashing the small items that had just been arranged in the room.
She kept muttering, "Why are you doing this to me? Why won’t you marry me? Tom, why don’t you love me anymore? Is it because Elara Don is clinging to you? It’s all her fault; she’s a temptress!"
The woman’s disheveled appearance was indeed that of someone mentally unwell.
Gabriel Miles and Eleanor Shaw entered the room, with Gabriel approaching to hold her.
"Samantha, calm down, can you hear Uncle talking to you?"
"Uncle, Uncle, you’re here! Quick, take me to him, let’s go find Tom, okay?"
Evelyn tightly gripped Gabriel’s hand, looking urgent, "You’re amazing. Last time, it was your idea to get Elara Don imprisoned, forcing Tom to turn to us for help, and it almost worked. As long as you step in, surely you can make Tom bow to us again and marry me."
Her words caused both Gabriel Miles and Eleanor to wince.
"Samantha, you must stop saying such things, only mention them at home, never outside. Calm down first, sit down and listen to Uncle, okay?"
Eleanor quickly moved forward to help Gabriel steady Evelyn.
Luckily, they were at home; if Evelyn’s words were heard outside, Gabriel Miles would be in deep trouble.
Because Gabriel had used confidential actions from the police department to frame Elara Don, seizing the opportunity to kill Jack Clarke and pin the blame on Elara. If anyone discovered this, he’d go to jail!
"Samantha, listen to Uncle’s words, stabilize your condition first, okay? Only when you’re well will Damon Hawke reconsider."
Gabriel guided Evelyn to sit down on the sofa, gently coaxing her.
"Uncle, if I’m well, will Tom really reconsider?"
Evelyn clutched Gabriel’s hand tightly, full of anticipation.
"Yes, don’t you believe Uncle?"
Gabriel nodded, soothing her.
Evelyn’s agitated demeanor gradually calmed down, her mutterings continued softly.
At the doorway, Hunter Miles stood, his eyes full of shock and disbelief watching the three inside.
His daughter indeed had psychological issues?
And most importantly, what had she just said?
Was Elara Don’s previous arrest truly Gabriel Miles’s doing behind the scenes?
