Chapter 298: Chapter 298: I’m Going After Damon Hawke
Gabriel Miles returned home, his face clouded.
His wife, Aqua Sutton, was about to leave. Seeing his grim expression, she quickly approached him, "Luke, what’s wrong? Why do you look so upset?"
"It’s nothing."
Gabriel replied coldly, then went upstairs to his study.
Aqua watched her husband’s indifferent back, the smile vanishing from her face, and she walked straight out.
In the study, Gabriel paced slowly.
Remembering Samantha’s words, his expression turned dark.
Although he wouldn’t allow Samantha to be with Damon Hawke again, dealing with Damon, if he could truly find his weakness, it would only be beneficial for him.
So now, he had to have someone find Damon’s weaknesses.
But James Lee was dead, and he had lost his most reliable right hand.
Whether finding Damon’s weaknesses or killing Damon, he needed someone who knew everything about him and was as loyal as James Lee.
Who should he find to be James Lee’s successor?
A knocking sound came, "Dad, are you there?"
It was Julian Miles’s voice.
Gabriel collected his thoughts and said, "Come in."
Julian walked in.
"Dad."
Gabriel looked at his son, whose face was haggard, and nodded, "You’re back? Are you alright?"
James Lee was dead, and seeing Julian like this must mean he was deeply saddened.
"I’m alright."
Julian looked at Gabriel, "Dad, I want to join the Grant Family Corporation and take over Uncle Lee’s position as general manager."
Hearing this, a look of surprise flashed in Gabriel’s eyes.
"You want to join the Grant Family? But weren’t you preparing for a civil service exam?"
His son had never been interested in business from a young age.
He hadn’t cared whether his son joined the Grant Family or not.
Because he himself was in politics, he hoped his son would follow in his footsteps.
Unexpectedly, his son now told him he wanted to join the Grant Family.
"I’ve decided not to, I want to go into business."
Julian said, with a hint of hatred in his eyes, "I want to deal with Damon Hawke and get justice for Uncle Lee."
So he wanted to join the Grant Family Corporation to avenge James Lee?
Gabriel was slightly stunned, sighed, and patted his shoulder.
"Julian, I know you were like father and son with James Lee. Since this is your decision, I’ll support you."
He also wanted to deal with Damon Hawke. Does this mean father and son are of one mind?
Julian didn’t speak; his eyes were filled with cold hostility.
Gabriel thought for a moment and said, "I’ll nominate you as general manager to the board, but you don’t know anything. I’m thinking about who should be your assistant."
Julian’s hostility slightly receded, "You handle the assistant matter. I have someone to help me. If we can’t find someone reliable, I can have that person assist me."
"Oh? You have help? Who is it?"
A look of astonishment flashed on Gabriel’s face.
"James Lee."
Gabriel: "..."
Wasn’t James Lee dead?
How could there be another James Lee?
"He’s a friend I recently met. I’ll bring him into the Grant Family and make him my assistant."
Talking about James Lee, Julian’s expression softened a bit between his eyebrows.
Gabriel frowned, "Someone you just met? Julian, could you have been deceived?"
He had spent many years in officialdom, and his son suddenly wanting to join the Grant Family and meeting a friend seemed too coincidental.
"Dad, the former second-in-command of the Netherworld Organization, Henry Harris, found me and said he wanted to collaborate with me to take down Hawke Group together. I don’t care what their motives are; I only know we have a common goal, which is to drag Damon Hawke from his pedestal and make his life a living hell!"
Julian didn’t hide anything and revealed the meeting with Henry Harris.
Gabriel’s eyes narrowed as he became thoughtful.
He thought there was something off about his son’s sudden desire to join the Grant Family.
It turned out someone wanted to use his hand to consume Hawke Group.
His son was right; regardless of their motives, they had a common goal.
Everyone wanted to deal with Damon Hawke.
"Alright, I understand. Let me think about it. I’ll find someone to assist you."
"Okay, Dad, I’ll be off then."
Julian stated his purpose and got up to leave.
"Julian, since you’re going to work for the Grant Family, do you want to live at home? If you do, I’ll have the butler..."
"No need, I’m used to living alone."
Julian’s eyes flashed as he refused.
If they lived together, how would he spend alone time with James Lee?
Watching Julian leave, Gabriel remained silent, not interfering with his affairs, but instead began pondering who could replace James Lee as his next loyal servant.
"Mr. Miles, I’ve returned."
The butler’s voice sounded at the door of the study.
Gabriel returned to his senses and called out for him to come in.
The butler entered, followed by a young man.
A couple of days ago, the butler’s mother was seriously ill, and he took leave to go back home.
"Old Zhang, is your mother alright now?"
"Thank you, Mr. Miles, for your concern. She’s fine now. I can resume my normal work tomorrow."
The butler bowed slightly, showing utmost respect.
Gabriel nodded, looking at the young man behind him.
The young man greeted with a smile, "Mr. Miles, I came back with my father to visit you. These are some tea leaves I brought from my hometown for you."
This was the butler’s son, David Taylor, who also worked for the Grant Family.
Gabriel’s eyes flickered with an idea.
"David, how are you finding work at the company?"
With James Lee dead, he had to employ a reliable person anew.
And this David might be the best choice.
"Thanks to you, Mr. Miles, my work has been going smoothly."
"Well, with James Lee gone, his position as general manager is vacant. My son, Julian, will replace him as the general manager of the Grant Family. How about this, I’ll nominate you to join him as his special assistant."
Hearing this, David was taken aback, a glimmer of surprise in his eyes.
"Thank you, Mr. Miles, for your promotion."
"Yes, work hard. I won’t treat you poorly."
Gabriel nodded and said.
"Rest assured, Mr. Miles, I will definitely work hard to repay you."
David quickly said, "My father always told me how magnanimous you are, and that without you, our family wouldn’t be where it is today, and I should never forget your kindness to us."
Hearing this, Gabriel looked at the old butler with satisfaction.
"David, there’s no need for formalities. There’s something I need you to handle. Can you do it?"
To see if David could handle tasks and become his capable assistant, he needed to give him something to do.
"Mr. Miles, what is it?"
"I want you to investigate Cole Hawke and see what leverage he has over Damon Hawke."
He would use this matter to test David.
Hopefully, his abilities wouldn’t fall short of James Lee’s.
"Alright, Mr. Miles."
"Yes, let me know if you need anything."
"Okay."
...
Night fell.
In another quiet villa.
Hunter Miles came out of the bedroom, gently opened the door to Samantha’s bedroom.
Heading to the bedside, he looked at the sleeping figure and slowly leaned down to pluck two strands of hair from her head.
In her sleep, Samantha felt a slight pain, frowned a bit, turned over, and continued sleeping.
Hunter gazed steadily at the strands of hair in his hand, then turned and strode away.
