Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Just a Joke
"Who’s really the vicious one here? Sophie Harper, return my phone to me."
Elara Don’s pretty face was icy as she moved to snatch back her phone.
Sophie let out a light sneer and quickly dashed behind Vinny Hawke.
Vinny stared at Elara’s furious little face, his lips curling slightly.
She leaned in slightly, whispering in a voice only two people could hear, "Elara Don, this is your warning. Remember, here, crushing you is as easy as crushing an ant. If you’re smart, resign and leave quietly."
Dare to talk back to her?
She’d show her a thing or two!
Seeing Vinny’s arrogant expression, Elara was so furious she clenched her fists.
"Miss Hawthorne, I’m a perfumer sent by Lionne Group, upright and aboveboard, unafraid of scrutiny. Yet you, just because I contradicted you a couple of times, resort to such underhanded means to drive an employee away. Aren’t you worried you’ll chill the hearts of the company employees if word gets out?"
Why should she leave?
If she’s going to leave, she’s going to clear this up first!
"How articulate! The necklace was found in your bag, and you dare to deny it?"
Vinny raised an eyebrow, instructing the bodyguards, "You, escort her out of the company for me!"
This is the Hawke Family’s company. As the dignified young lady, driving her out with such tactics—so what?
"Let go of me, Miss Hawthorne, you have no right to do this!"
Elara was being forced out by the bodyguards, boiling with anger.
At that moment, a series of footsteps sounded.
"What’s going on?"
A man’s deep voice cut through, stopping all chaos around.
"Mr. Hawke."
Everyone present respectfully greeted Damon Hawke.
Damon’s brows were cool and severe, his gaze as sharp as a knife fell on the bodyguards handling Elara.
The bodyguards felt a chill on their scalps, instinctively loosening their grip.
Being caught between multiple bosses, one wanting to seize, another to release, it’s the executors who suffer!
Elara pressed her red lips together tightly, rubbing her wrist that had been hurt, glancing at Damon with unexplainable grievance.
It’s all because of him!
She was smeared in front of everyone!
"Mr. Hawke, it’s Charlotte who stole the young lady’s necklace; the young lady was just about to kick her out."
Seeing Damon arrive, Sophie lowered her eyes slightly and spoke.
Damon looked at Vinny, his handsome eyebrows knitted with frustration.
Elara would steal a necklace?
His sister was just trying to make a fuss!
Headache!
"Rhun, go get the surveillance footage."
"Yes."
Rhun accepted the order and left.
"Check what? The facts are clear, the item was searched from her bag! Damon, a woman like her with sticky fingers shouldn’t remain in the company."
Vinny looked at Damon with arrogance.
"Sis, this is the group’s headquarters, not your cosmetics division. I’m the CEO of the Hawke Corporation, and I decide who stays or goes."
Damon glanced at Elara, meeting the anger and grievance in her eyes, his expression slightly darkened.
"Damon, don’t be fooled by some people’s appearances. She can steal my necklace today, and company secrets tomorrow. Do you still want to keep her?"
Vinny was stuck, her face looking unpleasant.
"Miss Hawthorne, when did I ever steal your necklace? In the restroom, I clearly saw it hung perfectly around your neck! In broad daylight, how can you lie with your eyes open?"
Unable to hold back any longer, Elara retorted.
"Charlotte, how dare you accuse the young lady of lying? Then how do you explain the necklace being found in your bag?"
Before Vinny could speak, Sophie angrily rebuked.
"How to explain it, shouldn’t you be the one to ask?"
Elara gave Sophie a cold look, her lips curling into a smirk.
"Ask me what? You mean to say I framed you?"
"Isn’t that so? With surveillance, I can stand tall and unashamed."
The necklace must have been secretly placed in her bag by Sophie while no one was watching.
Just need to check the surveillance, and her name will be cleared.
Just then, Rhun, who went to check the surveillance, returned.
He glanced at Elara, leaning in to whisper to Damon.
Damon frowned, his thin lips pressed tight.
Elara looked eagerly at the two, an unease rising in her chest.
"Assistant Rhun, did you check the surveillance footage?"
Why did she have a bad feeling about this?
"Well..."
Rhun glanced at Vinny, cleared his throat, "Just now the surveillance suddenly went out, I couldn’t see the video."
Elara: "..."
Some people really thought this through thoroughly to frame her!
So, is she really going to be kicked out of the Hawke Group with a thief’s label?
Elara clenched her fists, her gaze sweeping over Vinny and Sophie, unsurprised to meet their triumphant eyes.
"Damon, since it can’t be proven that Elara’s been wronged, then she should be dismissed. A woman like her certainly can’t stay in the company."
Vinny spoke strongly, looking at Damon.
Damon gave her a sideways glance, his face not too pleasant.
Did his sister stretch her hands too far?
As he was about to speak, a voice echoed in the crowd.
"Mr. Hawke, just now I inadvertently recorded a bit of video, please have a look."
Ethan Lane, with a phone in his hand, quickly walked over to Damon, handing it to him.
Damon took a glance—it was footage of the bodyguards and Sophie going through Elara’s things.
The screen froze on Sophie holding the bag, revealing the reflective glint of the necklace as she unzipped it.
Damon’s mouth curled into a cold arc, throwing the phone back to Sophie.
"Secretary Ford, care to explain what you were holding?"
Sophie’s heart skipped a beat, a hint of guilt flashing across her face as she looked at the blown-up video.
"This, this is..."
Caught!
Damn Ethan Lane, meddling in things that aren’t his concern!
"Speechless? So, Secretary Ford, it appears you’re the one who stole the necklace?"
Damon eyed Sophie, his voice cold and low.
Sophie shuddered, quickly shaking her head, "No, I’m not a thief!"
"Oh? So, you’re saying you had an accomplice?"
Damon’s mouth curled into a cold smile, "Then should I invite you for a little trip down to the station? A necklace worth millions from the Hawke Family being stolen, once confirmed, would easily land a ten or twenty-year sentence!"
"No, I didn’t!"
Sophie was so scared she almost collapsed, quickly throwing a pleading glance at Vinny.
Vinny’s expression changed several times, finally speaking with suppressed anger, "Damon, it was me who took off the necklace and gave it to Sophie for safekeeping. She saw Charlotte being disrespectful to me and said we should teach her a lesson. I instructed her to do it, just as a joke with Miss Soo, don’t take it seriously."
This Elara Don, truly a seductress.
Captivating all the men to defend her!
"Sis, this joke isn’t funny at all!"
Damon’s face was cold, "Apologize to her."
The dignified young lady of the Hawke Family, apologize to a lowly commoner?
Has Damon lost his mind?
