Chapter 130: Chapter 128: I won’t bite...not unless you ask...
Athena watched his tall figure disappear behind the door, the room suddenly feeling warmer, heavier with everything unsaid. She inhaled shakily and made her way to the bed, slipping under the blanket. Her body finally loosened in the soft mattress, exhaustion sinking into her bones.
Minutes passed.
The closet door finally opened.
Theodore stepped out, bare-chested, wearing only dark pants, a towel in hand as he dried his damp hair. Drops of water slid down his collarbone, disappearing into the defined lines of his torso.
Athena’s breath caught, but she shut her eyes quickly, pretending to be asleep.
He paused, and glance at her. She was asleep, but why was her breathing so uneven? He didn’t think too much about it. But, curiosity tugged at him...no, actually something deeper. He moved closer, quietly fear not to wake her up. He reached the edge of the bed. His eyes softened when he looked at her.
Such a beauty. A sleeping beauty. Even though, he had seen a lot of beautiful, none of them match hers. She had this cold beauty, that was somehow impossible to ignore. And when she was angry...God he loved her wrath more that the moon goddess’s own. She was fragile, soft and somehow, deadly as hell. And he loved it. It amuses him so much
A smile slipped onto his lips before he could stop it.
He sat beside heron the bed, careful not to wake her. For a long moment, he simply watched...her lashes resting on her cheeks, her lips parted slightly, her hair slightly on her face. The blanket was pulled up to her shoulder, making her look impossibly small and fragile.
He lifted a hand halfway toward her cheek... then stopped himself.
He shouldn’t. She isn’t his to touch. But damn, he wanted to badly. He wanted to feel her so close.
He let his hand fall, resting on his knee instead.
"You really did choose the wrong place if you wanted my self-control intact," he whispered under his breath, voice barely audible.
Athena’s lips twitched almost imperceptibly.
Theodore froze.
Was she awake?
He leaned in just slightly, lowering his voice.
"Athena... are you pretending to sleep?"
She didn’t answer him. Instead she shut her eyes tighter.
The corner of his mouth lifted.
"You’re terrible at faking," he added softly, amused warmth threading through his tone.
Athena stayed still... but her fingers curled under the blanket, betraying her completely.
Theodore’s smile widened.
"Do you want me to turn off the lights," he murmured, "or do you want to keep pretending until you actually fall asleep?"
Her cheeks flushed slightly, and he caught, he could see it from where he sat. The deep red shade, that made her impossible cute.
Theodore leaned back a little, still sitting beside her, elbows resting loosely on his knees as he watched her "fake-sleep."
A soft, knowing hum vibrated in his chest.
"Wow..." he murmured low, almost to himself. "You even fake-sleep like a guilty cat."
Athena’s fingers twitched on the blanket. But she refused to give up.
He leaned closer, his voice brushing the shell of her ear. "I wonder..." he pause in maddening way. "...if I tap your shoulder right now, will the great Athena flinch?"
She didn’t move. But she definitely flinched on the inside. And damn...her heartbeat wasn’t helping her at all. It was as if...every organ in her bodywas against her.
A smirk stretched across Theodore’s lips.
"Oh? Nothing? Not even a twitch?" he teased lightly. "I must be losing my touch."
Still nothing.
Theodore exhaled dramatically.
"Alright then... if you’re truly asleep..."
He reached for the blanket gently. "I guess you won’t mind if I tuck you in properly."
Athena’s hand shot out of the blanket, grabbing his wrist.
Theodore’s eyebrows lifted in triumph.
"Oh?" he teased softly. "The dead suddenly rises."
Athena groaned and buried half her face in the pillow. "Fine. I’m awake."
His smirk deepened into something warm and something dangerous.
"I knew that the moment I stepped out," he said, gently removing her hand from his wrist but not letting go of it entirely. "You breathe like someone trying too hard not to get caught."
Athena covered her face with the blanket"Stop teasing me."
"No," he said calmly. "You’re adorable."
Her heart exploded. What was he complimenting her?
He tugged the blanket down just enough to see her eyes, his voice lowered in a way that felt... intimate. "Why were you pretending in the first place?"
She swallowed. His face was so close to hers, that she felt his hot breath on her face.
"I... I don’t know." she muttered.
Theodore chuckled under his breath.
"Yes, you do."
She looked away.
He leaned closer, his breath brushing her cheek.
"Did I make you nervous?"
Athena’s throat tightened. And her silence was the only answer he needed.
Theodore’s smirk softened...less teasing now, more sincere. "Don’t worry," he said quietly. "I won’t bite."
His eyes drufted from her face down to her lips. "...unless you ask."
Her breath caught. "I..why would I..."
She blinked fast, cheeks blazing. "Why would I ask you to bite me?"
Theodore raised a brow, expression pure mischief.
"I don’t know," he said thoughtfully. "You look like someone who might secretly enjoy a little danger."
"I do not!" she shot back.
He tapped his chin lightly, pretending to debate.
"No? Really? Not even a tiny bit? Not even... hmm... this much?" He held his fingers a hair’s width apart.
Athena swatted his hand.
"You’re impossible."
"And you’re red," he pointed out.
"I’m not red."
He leaned in, inspecting her face like a scientist studying a rare specimen.
"Oh no, you absolutely are. If I had a mirror, I would show you. Actually..." He patted his coat dramatically. "Do you need one? Should I fetch one? Should I fetch two?"
She shoved him in the shoulder, trying to look annoyed, failing horribly. "Stop it!"
Theodore laughed...a warm, low sound that vibrated through the space between them.
"Ohhh, you actually look beautiful when you laugh." he grinned.
