Daughter of oblivion: Claimed by four alpha(s)-Chapter 162 - 160: What if they fuck?
Chapter 162: Chapter 160: What if they fuck?
She laughed and shook her head. "Honestly? I wouldn’t mind. I’m tired of seeing that smiling face of yours."
He laughed despite himself, though tears threatened to spill.
Laila had never seen her brother like this. So vulnerable. It made her chest ache so badly.
"Did she break your heart?" she asked gently.
Eryx groaned again. "Laila, please."
She could tell he was scared of crying in front of her. But she didn’t care.
She moved closer. "Tell me."
He glanced at her, then around the room, blinking rapidly as he tried to steady himself.
Finally, he spoke. "I think the Moon Goddess has become a joker."
Laila’s eyes widened. "What?"
Out of everything she expected, this wasn’t it. So the Moon Goddess broke her brother’s heart?
How dare she?
"The Moon Goddess dared to break your heart?" She jumped up, standing in front of him with her hands on her hips.
He stared at her like she had grown horns. Then he scoffed and flicked her forehead.
"You’re so stupid."
She hissed, rubbing her head. "What was that for?"
"For lacking common sense," he muttered, rolling his eyes.
She pouted, still holding her forehead and glaring at him.
He looked at her expression and huffed out a laugh. "You look so cute right now."
She folded her arms. "Don’t talk to me."
"Okay, fine. I’m sorry."
Her mood flipped instantly. She hurried back to sit beside him, putting the pillow back on her lap. "Okay, now talk. What did the Moon Goddess do that made you call her a joker?"
"Because she is one."
She giggled. "Then tell me what she did."
"Am I not good enough?" he mummered
Her brows furrowed instantly. "You’re perfect."
He smiled painfully. "Then why... why do I always get rejected?"
"...Is this about Clara?"
He shook his head. "No." He lifted his phone and held it out to her, a small, sad smile on his lips.
"Isn’t she pretty?"
It was Athena. Her picture was set as his wallpaper.
Laila’s eyes lit up. "Who is she? She’s gorgeous. Mom is going to like her."
Eryx exhaled shakily, dragging a hand down his face as if he could wipe the ache away.
"She’s mated to someone else."
The words sounded hollow, like they didn’t fully belong to him yet.
Laila’s chest tightened at the sight of him like this. He was always confident, and always wearing that effortless smile. Now he looked like he was barely holding himself together, like one wrong breath would shatter him completely.
She let out a slow breath. "So... was she your girlfriend?"
Eryx shook his head, a broken laugh slipping out before he could stop it. "No. But she likes me. I know she does."
"And after the mate bond?" Laila asked gently.
His jaw clenched. "She looked at me like she was apologizing without words," he said quietly. "Guilt in her eyes. Tears she didn’t even try to hide."
Laila hummed thoughtfully. "So after feeling a mate bond with someone else... she still cried for you."
Eryx groaned, rubbing at the corner of his eyes with his finger. "That was guilt, Laila. Nothing else."
She shook her head slowly. "I don’t think so. A mate bond is supposed to drown out everything else. When it hits, your world shrinks down to just one person. You don’t feel guilt for someone who isn’t your mate, not in this type of situation." She paused, then added firmly, "If she cried for you, she still cares. Maybe more than she wants to admit. You should chase her."
His red, tired eyes snapped to her. "What?" His voice sharpened. "Do you even hear yourself? You’re asking me to steal a Luna from an Alpha. To take someone else’s mate."
Laila rolled her eyes hard. "It’s not stealing if she chooses you. Nobody owns her."
"I know," he said, "But it’s still wrong. And even if I wanted to...You know... I can never feel a mate bond with her."
Laila studied him for a long moment. "You don’t need a mate bond to make someone love you. You know that. You know what you’re capable of." She leaned closer. "Fight for her, bro. Don’t give her up just because fate decided to be cruel."
Eryx groaned and buried his face into the pillow resting on her lap. "Why do I feel like my younger sister is manipulating me?"
She laughed, light and unapologetic. "Because your cute little pest is smarter than you."
He lifted his head just enough to roll his eyes at her. Then he straightened.
After a while, Laila stood. "If I were you," she said quietly, "I wouldn’t hesitate. Not for a second."
Eryx nodded, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Thanks."
She leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek before heading for the door.
He watched her leave, shaking his head slightly. Three years in France, and she still hadn’t lost her old habits.
When the door closed, Eryx collapsed back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling.
Athena was probably with Azrael right now.
The image hit him without warning. Them tangled together on that couch, the memory clinging to him like a stain he couldn’t scrub away no matter how hard he tried.
Why was the moon goddess so cruel?
For the first time in his life, someone had looked at him like he was enough. Like she wanted him, even when she tried to hide it. And now fate had ripped her away and handed her to someone else.
The thought of them mating made his chest constrict painfully.
What if they fucked? What if that sealed everything?
Would he lose Athena forever just like that?
She was supposed to be the mother of his children.
So why did fate keep taking what was meant for him?
He groaned, turning his face into the pillow.
Should he take Laila’s advice?
Gods, he wanted to. He wanted it more than he wanted to breathe.
He wasn’t someone who gave up easily, he had never had been. But this... this was the second time fate had done this to him.
And for the first time, he wasn’t sure how much more he could take.
