Chapter 86: Chapter 85: Athena shocked till death.
But he snapped out a breathless, "Wait...d-don’t..."
She froze mid-reach, eyes wide, heart hammering.
"What was that?" he hissed through clenched teeth. "Why...why did the pain get worse?"
He looked genuinely confused... and angry... and terrified all at the same time.
Before she could ask anything, before she could touch him again, he grabbed her.
With the last strength in his body, Eryx yanked her forward until she collided with his chest.
And instantly, instantly, his breathing eased.
The pain on his face subsided
His muscles relaxed a little bit more.
Like her presence was a drug.
He didn’t even try to hide the shock in his eyes.
How on earth did that happened? How did she ease up him pain? Now he understands, where and how got all the strength he had been wasting all this while.
Normall, wolfbane poison kills faster than any poison could, but somehow, he hadn’t died despite the poison being in his veins.
She subsided his pain but didn’t heal him? What on earth is she? Whatever she’s, he’s sure she doesn’t know it yet.
To satisfy his curiosity he pulled back to test it once more. And the agony slammed back into him so violently he almost dropped on his knees.
"What the fuck?" he rasped. "What is that? Why does it hurt when you’re not...why does it stop when you’re..."
His thoughts were a complete mess, unraveling.
Athena had no idea what he was doing. She only saw him nearly collapse again. She scrambled to his side, grabbed his other arm, and threw it over her own shoulder, trying to support his weight.
It didn’t help much.
Eryx was huge.
And she was... tragically not.
She had to stand on her toes just to keep his arm around her properly.
What kind of stupid genetics cursed me with this height? she hissed internally.
Her mother jianna is tall and so was her dad, so where on earth did she get her height from?
She stretched more and realized if she tiptoed any further, she might actually leave the ground.
Eryx watched her struggle, and he tried to stiffen a laugh, but of course, it escape before he could stop it.
A full, rich sound that vibrated against her chest.
He threw his head back, and his Adam’s apple moved in a slow drag down his throat.
Athena’s stomach twisted.
Why is that so sexy? Sexy as hell even in pain?
Why did her brain betray her like this?
He smirked down at her struggle.
"Don’t push it, princess," he drawled. "You won’t grow taller overnight."
She shot him the deadliest glare she could muster.
If glares could kill, he would’ve dropped dead right there.
"Shut up," she snapped.
His grin widened. "Aww. Fiery."
"Eryx, I swear to God..."
"If you swear any harder, you might grow half an inch," he teased, leaning more of his weight on her just to piss her off.
Her mouth fell open.
"You! You...heavy, annoying...overgrown wolf!"
"Accurate," he said proudly.
"Eryx, you almost fainted, stop being an idiot."
He raised a brow, eyes glinting. "If I faint, you’ll cushion my fall, right?"
"Absolutely not..."
"You will," he said confidently. "You’re too softhearted."
"Don’t test me," she muttered.
His lips twitched.
"You’re cute when you try to look intimidating."
She kicked his ankle.
"Ow..."
"Still intimidating?" she asked sweetly.
"Terrifying," he deadpanned.
She rolled her eyes and adjusted his arm again.
"Come on. We need to get you treated before you bleed into a puddle."
"Mm," he hummed. "And you’ll carry me? My brave little warrior?"
She froze. Heat crept up her neck. What the hell is wrong with this guy. One moment, he’s dying and the other he cracking stupid jokes.
"I’m not little," she muttered.
"You are. Very," he said, looking unbelievably smug.
She inhaled sharply.
"Okay, you know what? Bleed then."
He laughed again.
And gods help her... she liked that sound way too much.
Athena steadied herself on her toes, still clinging to his arm like some stubborn bird perched on a giant. Eryx looked down at her, amusement flickering in his eyes.
"You’re doing a great job, princess."
She gave him another glare. " Don’t hype me I’m trying to help you."
"That’s cute," he mused, lips twitching. "You trying to help me. My brave little... pocket-sized warrior."
Why was he calling her pocket size warrior. She wasn’t even that small.
Her mouth fell open in disbelief. "Pocket..? Eryx."
"Yes, princess?"
"I will kill you."
"With what? A toothpick?" he said, straight-faced.
Athena smacked his chest so fast he didn’t even have time to dodge. "Stop it."
He burst out laughing, deep and shameless, hand coming to his ribs as if the laughter itself hurt. "Gods...Athena...stop, my arm is broken not my soul."
She wanted to hit him again but stop herself. "You deserved that!"
Wow...when did their relationship got to this level? Touching, laughing, like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
And he actually looked... happy. His pain was still there, but the edges of it softened around her.
Until the air shifted.
Eryx felt it first. His smile dropped.
Athena felt it next. The hairs on her arms rose.
Then the door of the mansion opened and Rhydric stepped out.
He didn’t move at first. He just looked at them... at how close they were... at the way Eryx was basically leaning his whole weight on her. Then his gaze slid to Athena fully, and her breath caught.
Not in fear, just... awareness.
His eyes were like a storm, sharp, consuming.
But then those same eyes shifted to Eryx’s arms and it darkened.
The air thickened and before Athena could blink Rhydric was gone. Like gone literally.
Her mind screamed, her heart pounding.
Rhydric was suddenly standing in front of Eryx, his hand hovering inches from the injured arm, power surging off him like a storm about to break.
"Who," Rhydric said slowly, each word a drop of thunder, "did this?"
Rhydric’s question hung in the air like a blade.
Eryx didn’t flinch, of course he didn’t.
He lifted his chin, lips curving into that arrogant, stupid grin.
"Relax, brother," Eryx drawled. "You’re here now. My hero. My savior. The love of my life."
Rhydric shot him a deadpan look.
Is he flirting with him, now? Athena thought.
Rhydric sighed. "You’re an idiot."
"Mm," Eryx hummed, "but a handsome one."
Athena rolled her eyes so hard she almost saw her brain.
But then she stepped away, just one tiny step and Eryx’s entire body jerked. His breath hitched. His face twisted in raw, horrifying pain.
"Don’t you..." he rasped.
She froze.
Eryx, the arrogant, unbothered bastard, lurched forward and rested his head on Rhydric’s shoulder like a dying man clinging to life.
"Oh gods," he groaned. "Never let her move again. Tie her to a chair. Chain her to the wall. I don’t care...just, don’t let her leave."
Rhydric’s expression flickered to her.
A silent, sharp
what did you do?
Then his gaze flickered.back to Eryx, his jaw tightening.
Before Athena could form words, before she could even breathe, Rhydric grabbed her wrist.
The world snapped.
Wind roared past her ears cold, sharp, weightless and then BOOM, the floor reappeared under her feet.
They were in a room.
Athena stumbled back, hand flying to her chest. Her lungs refused to work. Her knees trembled.
"What...wh...what just..."
Her voice cracked.
"Did... did we... teleport?!"
Her whole body shook with the leftover rush. Her stomach flipped like it was still trying to catch up.
Rhydric didn’t react to her shock,. He didn’t even spare her a glance. Not even a little.
He was already lowering Eryx onto a bed, movements brisk and precise.
But the moment Eryx lost Athena’s touch again.
His body seized. His hands clawed at the sheets. His teeth clenched so hard a vein rose on his neck.
He was shaking.
"Fuck...Athena." he choked.
She rushed to him on instinct. And when she grabbed his outstretched hand, his body eased again, just like the other time.
Athena froze.
Rhydric did too.
They stared at each other over Eryx’s resting body, both equally shocked, equally confused.
Athena’s voice was barely a whisper.
"Why... does my touch ease his pain?"
Rhydric didn’t answer.
He just stared at her like she had grown two heads, two wings, and maybe a full tail.
Then, without a word, he turned away.
He moved to a shelf, grabbed a small glass vial, and came back to Eryx’s side. The liquid inside glowed faintly.
"Wolfbane," he muttered. "Has to be. Nothing else would stop his healing."
He uncorked the vial and poured the antidote onto the wound.
The moment the liquid touched Eryx’s skin
Light flared. And the wound closed instantly, sealing shut with no scar, no trace, no mark left behind.
Athena gasped.
What... the hell was that? Does the phantom fours planned on shocking her till death in few hours?
