Chapter 1055
Siegfried and Cheon Woo-Jin wasted no time and headed straight for the Marchioni Empire’s territory, the town of Angela.
Cheon Woo-Jin’s warp was truly lightning fast. The warp required no casting time, had no delay, and instantly moved them across vast distances.
“Wow,” Siegfried muttered in awe as the scenery changed in the blink of an eye. This kind of warp spell was something only Deus or Gerog could ever pull off as far as he knew.
However, after recalling that Cheon Woo-Jin had been appearing out of nowhere for as long as he could remember, he wasn't that shocked about it anymore.
Angela was already a living hell. Red lines stretched out like a spider web across the entire city, altars had been erected in various locations, and human sacrifices were taking place.
The blood spilled from the ritual had soaked the streets, dyeing the ground in a crimson hue.
But that was not all...
“
Aaaaaack!”
“Kyaaaah!”
“Ghhhrk!”
Even from this far away, Siegfried could still hear the cries and screams of the people being sacrificed.
“Damn it... This is going to drive me crazy soon,” Siegfried grumbled under his breath while tightly closing his eyes.
He really thought that he was going crazy.
Just living in this world without seeing this kind of horror was already hard enough. After all, there was a reason people would say that life is full of suffering.
Life itself was a grueling journey, and it was not an exaggeration to say that ninety-nine percent of it was made up of pain and the remaining percent was of happiness, if one was lucky.
However, being exposed to such terrifying and hellish sights constantly made Siegfried feel like he was going to lose his mind.
PTSD or also known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
There were actually people who ed mental anguish after witnessing horrifying scenes in virtual reality games. Even if they weren't real and were just scenes created by artificial intelligence, the visual shock was sometimes more than enough to leave a lasting impact on the player.
Siegfried was no exception.
He fought on the battlefields without flinching, but there were moments like this for him, too—Moments when just looking at the carnage made him feel like his soul was withering to its very core.
“I need to stop getting exposed to these kinds of shit...” Siegfried grumbled, letting out a sigh.
Shortly after, both he and Cheon Woo-Jin took to the skies and flew toward Angela.
Then, he turned to Cheon Woo-Jin and said, “Don’t get involved in this one.”
Cheon Woo-Jin grimaced and said, “
Huh?
Why not? I know you’re strong, but have you forgotten that I’m a Grandmaster?”
What Cheon Woo-Jin said was true. In terms of raw power, Cheon Woo-Jin was definitely stronger than Siegfried, as the former was a Grandmaster while the latter was only a Master.
Of course, Siegfried had the ultimate wild card up his sleeve, Demon Lord’s Descent.
“I’m not saying you’re weak," Siegfried shook his head and asked, "But who’s going to get me out of there if I go down?”
“
Ah...
” Cheon Woo-Jin muttered and nodded.
There was a chance Siegfried could end up incapacitated after using Demon Lord’s Descent. Thanks to the Demonform Set, he would no longer fall unconscious after his transformation, but he still wouldn't have enough strength to lift a finger.
In other words, Cheon Woo-Jin had to rescue him after his transformation.
“I’m counting on you,” Siegfried said with a nod and flew toward the town.
“That damned punk,” Cheon Woo-Jin chuckled and stared at Siegfried's back. Then, he kept his distance and waited in the sky, hovering near the town.
***
“Stop right there.”
“You shall go no further.”
“There he is, the heretic.”
Three angels of the highest rank soon blocked Siegfried's path.
The combined might of these three angels was simply destructive.
To face three angels, each powerful enough to establish a kingdom of their own, was no trivial matter. However, Siegfried did not flinch. He did not bat an eye even when facing the three angels before him.
When he faced Nigellus, he had neither soul energy nor the liberty to use Demon Lord’s Descent.
However, it was different this time. He could transform into the Demon Lord of Greed and Betrayal, so he had no reason to hold back—no, he had to go all in, as time was not on his side.
If that was the case, there was no reason whatsoever for him to fear these angels.
Why?
It was all because he just needed to transform.
Fwoooosh!
Dark energy surged and billowed out around Siegfried, and...
“Get out of my sight, losers,” Siegfried said dismissively. He transformed into the Demon Lord of Greed and Betrayal, and his eyes flashed with eerie blue ghostfire as he swung his +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp at the angels.
“
Aaagh!”
“Ghhhrk!”
“Ack!”
The angels did not stand a chance against the Demon Lord of Greed and Betrayal. Not a single one of the angels could even dare to block the +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp swung at them.
The gap between Siegfried and the angels was so vast that only Archangels could possibly stop him now.
“Damn you! Strike him down, brothers! Kill him!”
Realizing that they were no match for Siegfried on their own, the angels called upon the rest of their kin scattered throughout Angela.
In an instant, thousands of angels converged on Siegfried's location. The number of Fallen Angels deployed in Angela was dozens of times greater than the angels deployed in Ador.
‘
This isn’t just an ordinary Celestial Gate,”
Siegfried thought, noticing that something was off. He realized that the Celestial Gate stationed in Angela was not simply for the sake of summoning more Fallen Angels.
‘
They’re planning to summon an Archangel with this gate.’
As soon as he grasped the situation, Siegfried unleashed Eternal Flames and Embrace of Despair simultaneously. A blaze erupted from him, burning the enemies’ Defense and Magic Resistance. Then, shadows emerged and doggedly clung to the angels.
And with that, the battle began.
“Out of my way,” Siegfried said and swung his weapon at the swarm of angels.
Wooong!
Wave of Annihilation surged forward, engulfing the angels.
Three, two, one—
“...!”
Hundreds of angels disintegrated on the spot, breaking up into particles that scattered into the air. Siegfried, in his Demon Lord of Greed and Betrayal, had wiped them out with a single blast of Wave of Annihilation.
“You’re starting to piss me off. Get out of my way if you value your lives,” he warned. Then, he shot straight through the path he had carved through the angels that he had obliterated and accelerated toward the golden gate shining in the distance.
He had no time to waste on small fry, as his main priority was to destroy the Celestial Gate.
***
Siegfried’s plan to destroy the Celestial Gate did not go smoothly at all.
‘
W-What the hell?!’
Siegfried saw a golden net crashing down over his head, and he immediately tried to dodge.
Unfortunately, dodging it was impossible.
‘
Eh?’
The golden net was so massive that it blanketed the entire sky.
This was no ordinary net—no, it was a net formed by the golden ropes used by angels.
Chwaaak! Chwak!
Thousands of angels threw their golden ropes in unison, creating a massive net to capture Siegfried.
‘
I can cut through it.’
Siegfried realized, instantly transforming his +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp into a saber. Then, using the secret technique of the Sword Emperor, the Quick Draw skill, he swung his weapon to tear through the incoming golden net, but...
“...!”
The +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp couldn’t cut through the golden net.
“T-This can’t be happening...!”
Siegfried was at a loss. He couldn’t understand how he couldn't slice through the net made by a bunch of Fallen Angels despite being in the Demon Lord of Greed and Betrayal form.
He was supposed to wield immense power while he was the Demon Lord of Greed and Betrayal, so being unable to slice through a mere net came as quite the shock to him.
However, there was one thing he was unaware of. The golden net before was a very special type of net developed during the ancient era when the Celestial Realm and the Demon Realm were still embroiled in war.
The golden net was known as the Celestial Net, and it was a weapon created specifically to fight the most powerful of demons. Thus, it was only natural that Siegfried couldn’t break free from it despite exerting his full power.
“
Arghhh!”
Siegfried struggled to break free from the net that had ensnared him, but it was all in vain.
Each time he moved, the net would become tighter around him, applying tremendous pressure on him.
“W-What the hell is this?!
Arghhh!”
Siegfried unleashed all of his strength to rip the net off of him, but nothing seemed to work.
Meanwhile, the Celestial Gate shone brightly.
‘
No!’
Sensing the severity of the situation, he decided to act immediately and use the same method he used against Nigellus.
Unable to move, he used Transcendent Torrential Flower Rain, a skill that did not require movement or the use of his hands.
Chwaaak! Chwak!
Tens of thousands of radiant aura blades infused with eerie ghostly blue flames materialized, and the blades swept across the night sky, causing a brilliant yet violent storm.
“
Aaaaargh!”
“Graaaah!”
“Ghhhrkk!”
The Fallen Angels binding Siegfried with the Celestial Net were shredded by the hail of blades unleashed by the Transcendent Torrential Flower Rain. With most of the angels killed by the aura blades, the ropes loosened, creating an opening.
‘
Now!’
Siegfried immediately made a move as soon as he felt the net loosening up.
As soon as he was free, he shot toward the Celestial Gate like a bullet.
‘
Ignore everything else and focus on that gate!’
Siegfried thought, gritting his teeth.
“Stop him!”
“Block that heretic!”
“Don’t let him get anywhere near the Celestial Gate!”
The Fallen Angels gave chase, but none could catch him.
Siegfried was flying so fast that they couldn’t even follow the path he left behind.
‘
I have to destroy it!’
As the gate grew closer, Siegfried gripped his +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp tightly and charged up Touch of Death.
Then, he hurled his weapon toward the gate with all of his might in a last-ditch attempt.
The distance was too far for him to strike it in melee, so he had no other choice but to destroy it from range using Flying Sword.
Shwiiiiiik!
The +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp shot through the air.
‘
Please!’
Siegfried prayed that his weapon would make it in time and destroy the Celestial Gate, but his prayers fell on deaf ears this time.
Creak...!
The Celestial Gate opened—
Thud!
—and a hand reached out from within, catching the +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp that was fully charged up with Touch of Death.
“...!”
Siegfried’s face turned ghastly pale after seeing that the gate had opened.
He flew here as fast as he could, but in the end, he was late.
[Alert: You have failed the Quest — Destroy the Celestial Gate!]
He failed to clear the quest that Cheon Woo-Jin had given to him, and this meant that he wouldn't be receiving the ten levels promised as rewards. He was already late even before the quest started; he simply didn't have enough time to clear the quest.
“
Ah...
” Siegfried muttered in despair.
Meanwhile, a figure began to step out through the Celestial Gate with the +16 Vanquisher’s Grasp in hand.
Siegfried instinctively knew that the figure emerging from the gate was an Archangel.
How?
It was all because he tensed up, his nerves tingled, and his skin prickled. The aura unleashed by the figure that had yet to emerge from the gate was so immense that Siegfried instinctively knew what it was.
At last, the Archangel fully emerged from the gate.
Surprisingly, he didn't have black wings. All angels, whether low-ranking or high-ranking angels, had fallen and now had blackened wings, but this Archangel still had ten pristine, white wings.
