Chapter 1103
The final battle for the Last Fortress had begun.
The Holy Alliance threw every last bit of their strength into this final battle.
‘
It ends now. We've won this war,’
Deldelos thought, certain that they had already won the war. From his perspective, the Last Fortress was already standing on its last leg, so he had no doubt about his victory.
“
Aaaargh!”
“Noooo!”
The screams of the Allied Forces echoed endlessly from atop the fortress walls. Parts of the wall crumbled, and Holy Alliance troops began to pour into the breaches.
Of course, that was not all.
“
Arghhh!”
Even the most powerful warrior of the Allied Forces, Michael, was locked in a brutal struggle against no less than three hundred thousand fallen angels. No matter how powerful he was with ten wings, there was simply no way he could hold off three hundred thousand fallen angels all alone.
While the fallen angels held Michael back, the remaining fallen angels bombarded the fortress walls from above.
Thus, the defense began to collapse.
Their defensive structures were destroyed, and the soldiers were mercilessly slaughtered by the enemy.
“
Ah...
” Hansen muttered as he watched the Allied Forces crumble before his eyes.
He had remarkable tactical insight, but he lacked the ability to read battles breaking out in front of his eyes. It was only natural that he couldn’t fully grasp the situation, as he had little combat experience.
However, he didn't need much experience to tell that the Allied Forces were on the brink of being defeated and annihilated. All that remained for them was to resist until the very end—until every single last one of them was massacred.
“To think it would end like this before His Imperial Majesty's return...” Hansen muttered in despair.
Just then...
Fwooooosh!
A crimson blaze suddenly swept across the battlefield.
“
Aaaargh!”
“Nooo!”
“Help meee!”
The Holy Alliance troops were swallowed whole by the scorching flames, screaming as they were reduced to ashes.
Combat stimulants? Even with the drugs, there was no way these soldiers could endure such flames. The stimulants had dulled their sense of pain, but their flesh and bones were reduced to ashes.
How could anyone keep fighting through that?
Forget about the combat stimulants; they were literally being reduced to ashes. The inferno blazing across the battlefield reignited the morale of the Allied Forces. Their morale took to the skies, even in the face of utter despair.
Why?
It was all because they all knew what that fire meant. There was not a single soldier in the Allied Forces who couldn't recognize the meaning behind the crimson flames sweeping across the battlefield.
Those flames could only mean one thing.
The God of War, Siegfried von Proa, was here.
Anyone among the Allied Forces who couldn’t recognize these flames was not a spy, they were practically an alien from another world. Even children across the continent already knew by now that Siegfried would make a grand entrance whenever he entered a battlefield.
“His Imperial Majesty...! His Imperial Majesty has arrived!”
“Emperor Siegfried von Proa is here!”
“Stand your ground! His Imperial Majesty is with us!”
The morale among the Allied Forces surged, and the battle that seemed moments away from ending was reignited once again.
And then—
Thud, thud, thud...
Siegfried revealed himself at the center of the battlefield.
“It’s Siegfried von Proa!”
“Kill him!”
“Dieee!”
The soldiers of the Holy Alliance charged at Siegfried the moment they appeared, as if he were their mortal enemy.
Siegfried chuckled as he looked at them.
“How can they treat their lives as if they’re worth so little?”
A red aura burst forth from Siegfried, ripping out to envelop the battlefield.
C-Craaack! Crack!
The ground around him froze before it split open, and crimson lava shot up from beneath. Siegfried unleashed Infernal Hellscape, transforming not just the battlefield into a lava field.
He caused a natural disaster with his very own hands.
“
Aaaargh!”
“Gaaah!”
“S-Save me!”
“Help!”
“
Aaaaack!”
One after another, the soldiers of the Holy Alliance cried out in agony and despair. Burned alive and melted in lava, they experienced a horror beyond anything they had ever experienced.
“Allied Forces,” Siegfried said. As he stood amidst the sea of flames, he said in a calm, steady voice that roared across the entire battlefield. “Exterminate the enemy.”
WAAAAAAH!
The Allied Forces let out a thunderous roar and rushed forward.
With that, the final battle at the Last Forward reached its climax.
***
Although Siegfried had turned the battlefield into a lava field using Karma Flare and Infernal Hellscape, it was not enough to completely turn the tide of the battle.
The sheer numbers of the Holy Alliance troops and the fallen angels were far too overwhelming. No matter how many he killed, they seemed to just keep coming with no end in sight.
However, Siegfried did not flinch at the enemy’s numbers.
Wooong!
He brushed his fingers across the guild insignia of the Head Crusher Guild while wiping out the enemies charging toward him.
Roughly five minutes later...
Flash! Flash! Flash!
The Head Crusher Guild members, scattered across the continent, began warping onto the battlefield one after another.
And that was not all...
“Heed my call, my loyal knights!” Siegfried exclaimed, summoning the paladins of the Church of Heroes.
As both the founder and high priest of the Church of Heroes, he could send messages to the paladins spread across the continent.
Flash! Flash! Flash!
The paladins of the Church of Heroes warped onto the battlefield. The combined number of the Head Crusher Guild members and the Church of Heroes paladins totaled nearly three hundred thousand.
Just a while ago, the Allied Forces were vastly outnumbered, but now, they matched the Holy Alliance in terms of numbers.
“Hey! Hyung-Seok! Cast all the buffs!” Siegfried shouted.
“Got it!” Chae Hyung-Seok shouted in response.
Without hesitation, he climbed up and fused with the Demonic Cross, transforming himself into a living totem. Then, he immediately began casting wide-area buffs across the entire battlefield.
His buffs were simply astounding.
“Wipe them all out!”
“Kill them all!”
“Long live the Proatine Empire!”
Empowered by Chae Hyung-Seok’s buffs, the Allied Forces troops started bulldozing through the Holy Alliance troops even though they were enhanced by the combat stimulants.
‘
Perfect,’
Siegfried smiled as the seemingly hopeless battle became evenly matched.
But this was no time to relax...
“Die, you wicked demon!”
“I will avenge my fallen brothers and sisters!”
“You will not be forgiven!”
A swarm of fallen angels rushed at Siegfried.
“Buff me up, Hamchi!”
“Roger that!
Kyuuu!”
Hamchi summoned his magical hamster wheel and began running on it, channeling buffs onto Siegfried. Now armed with Hamchi’s buffs, Siegfried threw himself straight into the incoming swarm of fallen angels.
Even then, he refrained from using Demon Lord’s Descent.
[Alert: You have absorbed soul energy!]
[Alert: You have absorbed soul energy!]
[Alert: You have absorbed soul energy!]
(omitted...)
[Alert: You have absorbed soul energy!]
He continued to harvest soul energy, and by now, he had collected more than enough to use Demon Lord’s Descent.
But why was he refraining from transforming despite having enough soul energy? The strain it would place on his mana hall was one reason, but that was not the only reason.
After inheriting the Demon King’s Legacy, Siegfried obtained a new skill.
[Demon King’s Descent]
[The Demon King shall descend when enough souls have been gathered, and a calamity shall be unleashed!]
[Summons your true form from the Demon Realm using the energy of the souls you have absorbed. The more souls you absorb, the longer the skill will last.]
[Type: Active]
[Cooldown: None]
[Minimum Required Souls: 50,000]
He could transform into his Demon King form using the new skill, Demon King’s Descent, but there was a catch—
The new skill required a whopping fifty thousand soul energy to use, which was ten times more than what was needed for Demon Lord’s Descent.
‘
This battle will end the moment I use Demon King’s Descent. I just need a little bit more soul energy,’
Siegfried thought, deciding to wait.
His mana hall had already cracked, so he could only use one or the other—definitely not both. If he had to choose, he wanted to go all-in with Demon King’s Descent to guarantee their victory.
***
“Son of a bitch!” Deldelos roared, seething with rage. He watched as the battle, which had seemed all but won, was flipped on its head once again.
Thanks to Siegfried, the Allied Forces recovered and were now launching a fierce counterattack. From the standpoint of the Holy Alliance’s supreme commander, he felt like going insane.
While Deldelos was suffering a mental breakdown, a suddenly came in that pulled him back to sanity.
One of his lieutenants approached with a huge smile and said, “Congratulations on your victory, sir!”
“Victory? Do you think this looks like a victory to me? A battle that was already won is now turning into a stalemate! What in the bloody fuck looks like a victory to you?!” Deldelos scowled and screamed with absolute rage.
Surprisingly, the lieutenant kept smiling despite Deldelos’ fury.
“We have received word that an archangel will be deployed within five minutes, sir!”
“What?!” Deldelos exclaimed, jumping from his seat with his eyes wide open in shock.
An archangel was worth more than an army of hundreds of thousands of fallen angels.
Just having one deployed on the battlefield was akin to having another army of comparable size to the one deployed by the Holy Alliance—no, a single archangel might just be more powerful than the entire army combined.
“Is that true?! Are you sure about it?!”
“Yes, sir! The archangel will be arriving shortly!”
“Oooooh!” Deldelos suddenly flashed a huge triumphant grin.
With an archangel on their side, victory was guaranteed.
The Allied Forces seemed to have already played all the cards in their hand just to turn the tide of this battle, but their desperate struggle would not make any difference if the Holy Alliance somehow managed to deploy an archangel to battle.
At the end of the day, the outcome was practically guaranteed.
And as if to meet Deldelos’ expectations, the archangel’s arrival happened faster than expected.
“Follow me, brothers and sisters!”
Appearing suddenly on the battlefield, the archangel rallied the fallen angels and launched a devastating assault on the Allied Forces.
The name of the archangel was Samariel[1].
She was an archangel secretly summoned by the Holy Alliance and the Illuminati.
Swoosh!
Samariel unleashed an icy blue chill that swept across the battlefield, suppressing the lava field that Siegfried had created earlier.
After using her divine authority, she charged directly at Siegfried.
“How could you be so foolish, you pitiful creature?” Samariel said with clear disdain in her voice.
“Who are you talking about? Me? Or you?” Siegfried furrowed his brow and shot the question back at her.
“Do you not understand that resisting will only result in your death? Only surrender and obedience will—”
Samariel involuntarily flinched after sensing the powerful dark aura emanating from Siegfried.
It was an instinctive reaction, one similar to how Metatron instinctively shrank back out of fear after seeing Michael.
Swoosh!
A vortex of dark aura enveloped Siegfried, and then...
C-Chwaaak!
Twelve wings sprouted from his back.
It was the advent of the demon god.
A being that was supposed to never manifest in the Middle Realm with his full power had descended.
“No... No way!” Sameriel screamed in horror at the sight of Siegfried’s transformation, but it was already too late.
Siegfried had completed his transformation into the Demon King, which meant that Samariel could no longer stop him.
Aside from the Chief Archangel, none of the angels could ever hope to defeat the Demon King on their own. In other words, Samariel was nothing more than a prey fresh for the hunt.
“Surrender and obedience?” Siegfried muttered with a smug grin. Then, he closed the distance between them and said, “Sorry, but that’s just not my style.”
1. Based on my research, Samariel is actually a demon(?) The correct name for an archangel is Samael. Still, I have to stick to what author-nim wrote, as this is his universe after all lolol. ☜
