Even If I’m Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Book 6: Chapter 55: Shadows of the Past
Book 6: Chapter 55: Shadows of the Past
“The supreme… queen…”
Just those few words were enough to make one’s blood stir.
In Lilith’s mind, she could almost see it—a fiery red figure standing high above all, gazing down at the world with quiet majesty.
“I didn’t realize Mom is that strong,” she murmured.
Strong enough that even a force representing one-sixth of the Great World didn’t dare make a move.
“But even someone that powerful still chooses to live in a small place like this, dreaming dreams she doesn’t want to wake up from,” Li Desheng said with a sigh.
A flash of deadly black light suddenly flared to life, instantly surrounding Li Desheng.
“Didn’t I tell you not to start conversations on your own?” Lilith guided the black flame in a slow circle around him, tilting her head as she asked, “Are you that eager to die?”
“It was just a comment! A comment!”
Li Desheng curled up, trying to emphasize his harmlessness.
“Please, don’t scare me like that! For a corporate slave who’s been working overtime for a month straight, constant fright is a serious health hazard!” he whimpered.
“That’s your problem,” Lilith replied coolly, withdrawing the black flame. “Next question—the second one: what’s the truth behind the dragons’ disappearance?”
“Eh? Already?” Li Desheng blinked in surprise.
“What, were you expecting me to bathe and burn incense first before asking?”
“No, no, not at all. I just thought maybe you’d want to build up to it a little.”
He rubbed his hands together and added, “I prepped for a bunch of topics—like the history between the Sky Ruins Deity Lord and the Dragon Queen, the rumors about the men related to her, and even the best positions to get stepped on by the Dragon Queen—really detailed stuff from nine million years of scandal archives.”
Lilith stared at him in silence. She looked like she was genuinely considering plucking his head off his shoulders and asking Thoughtless Heaven to send another representative.
“J-just kidding, just kidding…”
Li Desheng gave a nervous chuckle, then quickly pulled out a small black orb. Seeing Lilith’s wary expression, he immediately waved his hands and assured, “This is just a projection device!”
To prove it, he pressed a switch. With a mechanical click, the orb cracked open. A faint blue light spilled out, casting a soft glow that quickly expanded.
It was as if night had descended all at once—the sky turned pitch black, and a sea of stars lit up overhead.
Lilith raised an eyebrow at him. “You took this thing out just to show me the stars? I’ll admit, this night sky’s impressively realistic.”
“Shhh. Don’t talk. Look carefully,” Li Desheng said, pointing at the countless stars in the projected night sky. For the first time, he wore a serious look on his face.
Lilith looked up, then froze. In the river of stars, where the light shone brightest, some stars began to go out. Li Desheng controlled the orb, zooming in on the affected area.
And then Lilith saw it…
Darkness. A depthless, devouring black.
Darker than the void between stars, it crept forward with a hunger that was terrifying in its silence. It moved like a seated glutton at a banquet, utensils already in hand, eagerly consuming each star it reached.
The speed was staggering. In moments, the darkness had swallowed a third of the projected sky.
“That’s…” Lilith blurted in surprise. She didn’t know if it was just the realism of the projection, but she could feel a familiar presence in that darkness.
“Watch closely. The main event’s just about to start,” Li Desheng said.
Then, just as he finished speaking, a mighty dragon’s roar echoed in Lilith’s ears.
She watched as a dragon, as vast as a star, soared from one end of the galaxy, wings spread wide, roaring with fury as it dove headlong into the darkness.
From the depths of that black void came no reply… only a faint, scornful sneer.
And so, the dragon roared again and charged into the darkness. It didn’t even make a ripple… It was swallowed whole.
At this point, Lilith understood what the darkness represented. What she was seeing… was the Dragon Eater. The darkness was the black flame that could devour everything in its path.
Unlike the flickering sparks Lilith held in her hand, it was an all-consuming sea of fire, spreading across galactic scales.
Even from a mere incomplete recording from nine million years ago, the despair that radiated from it was suffocating.
*ROAR!*
In the face of despair, more roars were heard.
Lilith saw even more dragons soaring through the stars. They were far more massive than any dragons she had ever seen. Their eyes burned like suns, and when they spread their wings, it was as if even time paused in reverence.
They charged toward the invader, filled with fury, pride, and resolve.
They lit up. They shimmered. Then… they vanished. Just like shooting stars. Not even a speck of dust remained. And yet… others followed.
When those massive dragons, capable of tearing open the heavens and shaking the laws of the world, fell to the darkness, the smaller ones followed in their wake without hesitation.
After that, it was the young dragons. They let out shrill, childish roars and flapped their underdeveloped wings. They, too, dove into the darkness. In that endless sea of darkness, a single flicker of light would blink to life, then disappear just as quickly.
“Don’t…!” Lilith cried out, reaching out.
She wasn’t sure if it was just in her head, but at that moment… she heard the echoes of a familiar female voice from within the darkness.
*”Go—”*
But it was already too late. The black sea of flame surged forward, devouring everything. Even those who were still so young were not spared. Nothing could stop it anymore.
And then… Everything turned to darkness.
The projection ended.
Lilith remained frozen, her arm outstretched as if trying to stop something. She stayed like that for a long, long time.
Because suddenly, she remembered that she had dreamed this before… Countless dragons charging toward the darkness one after another, trying in vain to hold back waves of destruction they could never hope to stop.
And now, in the glow of the fading projection, her youthful, delicate face was clouded with sorrow.
“What… was that?” Like a melting ice sculpture, Lilith slowly lowered her hand. She turned to Li Desheng. Her expression was blank, but her voice was extremely cold. “What did I just see?”
“That was a segment of visual record from nine million years ago. The dragons’ final stand against the Dragon Eaters’ invasion. The footage’s been compressed, but it’s no doubt real,” Li Desheng replied with a shrug.
Despite the chill in Lilith’s stare, he didn’t look particularly afraid. In fact, as if deliberately pushing his luck, he lit another cigarette, even after she’d warned him not to.
“That’s the answer to your second question—the truth behind the dragons’ disappearance. The dragons didn’t disappear. They no longer existed.”
He shifted his gaze away from Lilith’s terrifying stare. Turning his head to the side, he exhaled a ring of smoke before continuing.
“Because nine million years ago… the dragons were annihilated by the Dragon Eaters.”
