Li Desheng didn’t look offended. In fact, he seemed to have expected it.
“You’re right. You know nothing about us, and I never assumed you’d trust us easily,” he admitted. “But… You don’t have anywhere else to go, do you? So why not give us a chance?”
“Ridiculous!” Lilith snapped. “Who said I have nowhere to go? I—” She froze mid-sentence. Her gaze fell to her hands, then shifted to the space around her…
She had wanted to retort defiantly to prove him wrong, but the words caught in her throat. She couldn’t make any retorts… because it was true. She had nowhere else to go.
This place was no longer her home.

“It means that the terms written here are binding. Once you accept them, we of Thoughtless Heaven are obligated to uphold our end. If we break that vow… even the Deity Lord would suffer catastrophic backlash from the Heavenly Order.”
He unrolled the scroll slowly, carefully. The golden characters lifted from its surface, glowing softly as it hovered in the air before Lilith.
She didn’t recognize the script. But somehow… she could understand it perfectly.

She looked Li Desheng straight in the eyes and asked, “And what are you planning to do with her?”
“What do you mean by why?” he echoed, caught off guard. “You mean you don’t want to be separated from something that dangerous?”
“Right now, I don’t see how she’s dangerous at all.” Lilith raised her hand. A black flame danced around her like a playful sprite, brushing past her skin and leaving nothing more than a cool tingle.
It was a strange sensation, almost pleasant, even.
“That’s because you’ve been deceived!” Li Desheng said firmly. “I’m sure you know how terrifying the Dragon Eater is. Do you really believe she’d let herself be sealed inside you without some sinister motive?”
“You’re right, she didn’t exactly agree to it,” Lilith said, recalling the annoyed look on the Dragon Eater’s face. “But… it’s not like she can escape either.”
“But what if she does? What then? Do you realize what would happen? It wouldn’t just be one or two worlds destroyed—it would threaten the entire Great World!” Li Desheng shot back.
“Can you guarantee she’ll never break free?” he asked.
Lilith frowned. “And you can guarantee you’ll be able to control her?”
“Who said anything about controlling her? We intend to destroy her!” he replied coldly.
“Destroy…?”
“That’s right. Destroy.” Li Desheng’s tone sharpened. His face was suddenly lit with fervor as he declared, “We will annihilate the Dragon Eater—just like we did nine million years ago! Lilith fell silent once again.
