Even If I’m Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Book 6: Chapter 61: Prepared
Book 6: Chapter 61: Prepared
“Is that so?” Realization dawned upon Li Desheng. “So that’s how it is,” he exhaled.
Before arriving, he had never doubted the outcome of this negotiation. In his mind, no one could possibly refuse the generous terms offered by the Thoughtless Deity Lord.
And yet, when Lilith gave her firm refusal, he wasn’t particularly surprised. This had nothing to do with mental fortitude—more like a quiet acceptance, as though this result had been inevitable from the start.
A woman obsessed with dreams giving birth to a daughter just as obsessed… It made perfect sense, didn’t it?
“Well, nothing more to say, then, Miss Lilith.” Li Desheng sighed regretfully. “It was a pleasant conversation. I thought we might become friends. But the moment you refused… we became true enemies.”
“Mm. I know.” Lilith nodded seriously. “I won’t hold back.”
“Ah, hearing it so bluntly is a little heartbreaking.”
Li Desheng raised his hand. His hunched and frail-looking body, which looked like it might collapse at any moment, suddenly erupted with a torrent of divine power.
It surged outward, and his wild, unkempt hair stood on end, making him look kind of like a Super Saiyan.
A demigod—no, a peak demigod!
Lilith’s cheek twitched. “That’s not exactly how a civil servant should look.”
“I agree.” Li Desheng shrugged helplessly. “Thoughtless Heaven is full of monsters. Competition is brutal. As a useless demigod who can never break through, all I could do was settle for a desk job.”
“Well, no big deal,” Lilith said, lifting her gaze. Black flames flickered faintly around her. “I think I can easily handle a demigod now.”
“Forget about demigod. The power of the Dragon Eater can even threaten a true deity,” she added.
Li Desheng let out a whistle. “Good thing I’ve been preparing for this a long time.”
Then he snapped his fingers.
“See, as a model employee, I’ve long understood a certain workplace truth—when your boss gives you a job, always overdeliver. Otherwise, it’s going to suck even more when they call you back to work at 3 a.m!”
“What?”
Lilith’s expression shifted as alarms blared in her mind. But before she could act, her consciousness began to blur.
No… that wasn’t it.
Her thoughts were slowing down, as if someone had poured syrup into her mind. Physical sensations were delayed. Commands from her nervous system took longer to reach their targets.
“The cigarettes…?”
She slowly lowered her head, her eyes falling on the cigarette butts on the ground.
Only then did it click.
“Don’t worry. It’s just a slow-acting toxin. Technically harmless. If it actually hurt you, you would’ve noticed earlier,” Li Desheng said.
Li Desheng watched Lilith with interest, noting how her thoughts and movements had slowed to the pace of an old woman. He didn’t rush. Instead, he calmly pulled out a notebook and began jotting down observations, as if gathering intelligence for a case study.
“Guess it’s just borrowed power activated by your will. In that case, the so-called invincibility of the Dragon Eater reveals a rather glaring flaw.”
“You’ve… schemed against me…”
“Scheme is such a harsh word, Miss Lilith.” Li Desheng smiled. “I prefer to call it preparing for the worst. This is just Plan B, activated a little early. If you had accepted my proposal earlier, none of this would have been necessary.”
Before Lilith could react by summoning the black flame to purge the toxins in her body, Li Desheng extended a hand toward her.
But then…
Another hand grabbed his wrist.
Looking at the slender hand that was also engulfed in divine energy as it held him in place. Li Desheng’s expression soured with annoyance.
“Oh man, no one told me anything about this. Even I’ll be mad if I don’t get paid overtime for this,” he grumbled. He looked up at the beautiful face before him and asked, “So, who might you be?”
The woman ignored him and turned to Lilith with clear concern in her eyes.
“Lilith, are you alright?”
“Ciel…? Why are you here?”
“I was worried about you, so I’ve been following you. But the magic around this island was tricky—I couldn’t just waltz in like you. It took me a bit of effort to get in.”
Ciel gently tapped Lilith’s body. It wasn’t some fancy spell—just a burst of divine energy that dispelled the slow-acting, stealthy toxin.
“So, what happened?”
Her suspicious gaze swept over Lilith. She had only been gone a few hours, yet something about Lilith felt… different. It was almost as if something big had happened to her while she wasn’t around.
“Nothing major.” Lilith waved it off. “I just discovered the truth I’ve been searching for.”
“The truth?” Ciel frowned. Judging by Lilith’s current state, whatever truth she had discovered clearly wasn’t pleasant.
“Let’s not talk about that right now.” Lilith patted Ciel’s shoulder and gestured for her to look behind her. “Our priority is killing this stupid corporate slave.”
“Hey now, Miss Lilith,” Li Desheng said, raising an eyebrow. “We were having such a pleasant conversation. No need to turn hostile so fast.” Looking at the gathering black flames, he immediately pleaded, “Can I surrender?”
“What do you think?”
The flames surged. In an instant, Li Desheng’s divine power was consumed. The black flame converged again, closing in on his vital points.
“I see.” Li Desheng let out a quiet sigh. “Good thing I have a Plan C.”
Before he could even finish speaking… The once empty space, with only three people present, suddenly came alive with the sound of breathing.
The noises seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Ciel couldn’t even identify the source, but they were unmistakably real. It was as if the graveyard had transformed into a bustling marketplace in the blink of an eye.
Figures began to emerge. From the shadows of the Dragon Monolith, the white canvas above their head, the grass, behind the tombstones, the direction the wind had blown… And even from the freshly filled pit Lilith had just dug.
Thousands of figures materialized, encircling Lilith and Ciel. Their collective aura rose, nearly tearing open the sky. Blades of grass danced wildly in the wind as Lilith and Ciel’s expressions grew visibly stiffer.
They were all… demigods!
They had risked everything to slip through the Starry Deadlands under the Dragon Queen’s nose, then hid in tall grass, lying in wait for the rabbit that was Lilith to wander into reach.
All it would take now was a single signal from Li Desheng, and they would rush forward to maim Lilith.
The enemy… was far more prepared than she had imagined.
“T-That’s…” After a long silence, Lilith finally found her trembling voice again. “That’s way too underhanded.”
“What are you talking about, Miss Lilith?” Li Desheng casually pulled another cigarette from the pocket of someone standing beside him. He lit it, then took a long, blissful drag.
“Compared to the siege against the Dragon Eater nine million years ago… this is nothing but a warm-up, wouldn’t you say?”
