Even If I’m Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Book 6: Chapter 109: Forward
Book 6: Chapter 109: Forward
In the darkness, a faint light flickered.
The flame inside the lantern swayed with every gust, stubbornly refusing to die, casting a fragile glow that barely held back the endless black.
Snow and wind slashed at her like icy blades. The gray cloak shielded most of it, but the exposed skin on Lilith’s face and arms still stung with every cut.
Blood trickled down, falling onto the snow. Before its vivid red could stand out against the darkness, it was quickly buried beneath the pure white.
The snow had risen to her knees, making every step incredibly difficult.
It felt less like walking and more like being dragged along. The massive husky bounced joyfully across the snowfield, as though it was excited to be home.
More than once, it nearly pulled Lilith off her feet, then turned back to give her a look of unmistakable disdain.
Being looked down on by a dog was a new experience for Lilith, but she was far too exhausted to teach that damn dog a lesson.
She was pretty much drained by now. From the moment she’d stepped into the darkness, the snow had fallen without end. She had no idea how long she had been walking.
With only the strength of an ordinary human, each step felt like another mile in a marathon she hadn’t trained for. At this point, it was only her will that kept her moving.
Woof!
The husky suddenly stopped, baring its teeth at the darkness ahead.
Lilith heard it too—a deep, ragged breathing in the dark. Something was out there, waiting for her to walk into its jaws.
“So, you’re already here?” She loosened her grip on the leash. “Go, Htilil.”
The husky’s body swelled, growing massive in an instant before it charged into the dark with a thunderous roar.
Snarls and howls erupted, accompanied by the metallic scent of blood.
Although Lilith couldn’t see the creatures tearing at each other, she could sense the violence in the air.
The battle eventually ended. Apart from the sound of the wind, there was only silence.
A massive shadow emerged proudly from the darkness, but it swayed unsteadily, as though it might collapse at any moment.
Lilith raised her lantern, trying to see its victorious face.
But the beast collapsed, just beyond the edge of the light.
Blood seeped through the snow, spreading to her feet.
Lilith stared at it for a good while, then let out a long sigh.
“Thank you, Htilil.” She bowed her head in deep respect before adding softly, “Or rather… thank you, past me.”
The giant hound began to dissolve into mist. In its final moment, it took on a human shape and lifted one trembling hand to point ahead.
“I understand.” Lilith followed the gesture with her eyes and murmured, “I’ll keep moving forward. I won’t stop until I reach my goal.”
The phantom vanished, leaving her alone for the rest of her journey.
The crimson gem still floated before her, casting a faint red glow along her path, but she no longer had the strength to even lift her head toward it.
The solitary road that stretched onward was undoubtedly a difficult one.
Still, Lilith clenched her teeth and forced her body to move, one heavy step after another.
The darkness was endless. She couldn’t see how far the path went, but she wouldn’t stop until the very end.
“Stop, Lilith. Why struggle?” A voice whispered in her ear.
Lilith said nothing, forcing her legs to keep moving.
“Doesn’t it only hurt more?”
“Why push yourself this far?”
“Give up. Give up.”
“Look…”
From the slope ahead, just off to the side, a warm light suddenly bloomed.
A familiar figure stood within the light, craning her neck and beckoning to her.
“Lilith, come quickly. There’s fire, food, and eternal bliss here.”
Amidst the blizzard and darkness, that voice coming from the light was dangerously alluring, like a demon’s whisper promising paradise.
But Lilith never once turned her head. She kept moving forward in silence.
Forward! Forward! Forward!
No other path could attract her attention, save for only the one illuminated by the crimson gem.
“Enough, Lilith!”
The voice suddenly erupted into a furious roar.
“Stop! Do you understand the calamity your path will bring?”
Once more, visions flashed before her eyes—planets shattering, cities burning, children wailing for the dead.
“You are the Dragon Eater, the embodiment of catastrophe! You only deserve to be buried in eternal darkness! Stop right there!”
“Stop!”
“Stop!”
“Turn back now, and redemption may still be possible!”
“Continue on this path, and you will face nothing but ruin!”
The voice thundered like the wrath of a god, each word a sentence of divine judgment.
But in the face of that fury, Lilith only grinned.
“Heh… getting desperate now, huh?”
When persuasion failed, it turned to threats.
“Try something else. This alone… still won’t stop me.”
“Arrogant! Insolent!”
The voice raged from the dark, but Lilith’s feet never stopped.
“You insolent creature! Drown in your own defiance!”
Her next step landed on nothing.
An instant later, icy water swallowed her whole.
It felt like plunging into a frozen lake. Even her cloak couldn’t shield her from the merciless cold that sliced through her body like a thousand blades. ṚàΝɵʙΕS
Her limbs thrashed weakly, but her once-proud swimming skills were useless here. She sank like a stone, watching as the surface grew farther away above.
“Give up, Lilith. Surrender, and the water will release you,” the voice called again. “The deeper your obsession, the heavier you become. Continue like this, and your thousand-pound desire will drown you in this water. Turn back now. There’s still time.”
The biting cold and lack of oxygen were stealing away her consciousness, while that voice echoed in her ears like a phantom—sometimes soft and coaxing, sometimes filled with anger.
One word of surrender, and all this would end.
But even as she sank deeper, Lilith forced her arm to move, lifting one finger in a certain direction.
—A single, defiant middle finger.
“Eat some dog s̲h̲i̲t̲, you b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲!”
