Everyone Wants Me Dead: The Villain Lord's Survival Diary-Chapter 9 – A large wave of players is approaching

Chapter 9

"Stop right there! This is Morninglight Town. What are you doing here? Where did you come from?"
Before they could even begin their mission, a group of players was intercepted by a team of guards wielding swords and wearing wary expressions at the entrance of Morninglight Town.
This left the players a bit frustrated. They needed to enter Morninglight Town to complete their task, but these guards weren't just for show; they looked fierce and not easy to deal with.
What the players didn't know was that these guards were usually quite lax, generally allowing people into the town without much fuss. At most, they would ask for a small toll from those who looked like easy targets.
After all, Morninglight Town was just a small, impoverished border town with nothing to its name. Who would care about it?
The reason they were so diligent today was because of a certain unscrupulous lord waiting to see a good show at the Mayor's Estate.
"Aren't we all humans? Why are they stopping us?"
"Look at how many of us there are..."
"I heard Morninglight Town belongs to Eaglehold. It's private territory, so outsiders can't just enter freely."
"I think we should just fight our way in. There are so many of us."
The players huddled together, whispering among themselves. Since it was an internal discussion, it wasn't translated into the language of the Kain Continent.
Then, the players used Appraisal on the guards at the entrance of Morninglight Town.
[Name: Kate]
[Identity: Morninglight Town Guard]
[Strength: Swordsman Level 6 (1-10)]
[Equipment: ???]
[Skills: ???]
[Threat Level: Ordinary]
The panels for the five guards were similar: three swordsmen, one sword and shield, and one archer, none above level 10.
The players figured they could take them on. The guards seemed to be using basic equipment, and although their levels were higher, they were outnumbered by the players, who were over a hundred strong.
Just as they were about to make a move, Ye Hao squeezed out from the crowd of players.
"I am a knight of the Griffin Family, here with my knightly retinue to seek refuge with the Earl of Eaglehold."
The guards exchanged glances. Was he really not here to attack Morninglight Town with such a large retinue? They had heard of the Griffin Family, a fallen minor noble family on the border of the Earldom, but even so, they weren't someone these small town guards could afford to offend.
The guards scrutinized Ye Hao, noting his handsome face, disdainful gaze, and the air of superiority. His armor was of ordinary grade but adorned with ostentatious patterns.
Hmm...
He was definitely one of those noble scions who looked down on others with their noses in the air.
The guards believed Ye Hao's identity and stopped blocking him. After bowing to Ye Hao, they stepped aside, allowing entry into Morninglight Town.
"Wow, the protagonist is so impressive. What's his identity?"
"He mentioned the Griffin Family. It must be a powerful family. I wonder how they compare to the Earl of Eaglehold."
"We should find out more later. Having status is great. The guards not only stopped blocking him but also bowed respectfully."
"How do you get a title? I want to try getting one too."
***
The players chatted excitedly as they followed Ye Hao, heads held high, entering Morninglight Town with confidence.
Ye Hao led the group, feeling extremely pleased with himself.
He was a prodigious youth from the Ancient Martial Ye Clan, growing up under countless auras of glory. He had already surpassed other geniuses from ancient martial families of his age, reaching the level of a half-step grandmaster before turning twenty.
Ye Hao never played games because his life was like a game with cheat codes.
He thought his life would continue in this invincible yet boring manner until a mysterious entity approached him two days ago.
Ye Hao had never encountered such a grand will, an overwhelming sense of pressure. He felt like an ant facing a tidal wave.
The grand will instructed him to complete a mission: to invade a new world.
Invading a world? This excited Ye Hao immensely. He had long grown tired of everything around him.
Flattering words, adoring gazes, women throwing themselves at him, invincible strength, endless wealth...
These were not what Ye Hao desired. A warrior should conquer the heavens.
Invading another world was a grand mission that set his blood boiling!
This was what Ye Hao was meant to do!
Soon, Ye Hao was brought before another great will, though he could sense it was very weak, barely hanging on.
The two wills seemed to have reached some agreement. The weak will handed Ye Hao a beautiful crystal, then fell silent.
The mysterious entity told him that the energy within the crystal would become the core hub for the exchange of laws between the two worlds. However, due to the vast differences in the laws, for now, only humans from the Blue Planet could be summoned in a special way to become the main force invading the Kain Continent.
To facilitate the invasion plan, this summoning ritual would exist on the Blue Planet in the form of a virtual reality game.
Ye Hao immediately understood. It was about summoning players, bringing humans from the Blue Planet in the form of players, using the energy of the Kain Continent to sustain their existence and invade the Kain Continent without any risk to the Blue Planet.
Ye Hao would serve as an anchor, firmly rooted in the Kain Continent, becoming a beacon for players entering the Kain Continent.
Of course, with such benefits came corresponding costs.
Ye Hao and the mysterious entity obtained Maroën's divine essence, and naturally, they had to bear her hatred, helping her demi-human race regain glory and make the Cologne Human Empire pay for their blood debts.
These tasks were no problem for Ye Hao. The moment he saw the Saintess Roye, he had already considered her his woman. Helping Roye would also aid him in winning over this girl who was perfect beyond words.
The only thing that slightly annoyed Ye Hao was that due to insufficient energy, his original half-step grandmaster strength, which should have been equivalent to level 40 on the Kain Continent, was now reduced to level 11.
However, as compensation, he had three opportunities to unleash his past life's strength, and he could foresee some upcoming events once a day. As a bonus, the weak will directly granted him several top-tier skills.

He wondered which person from the Cologne Empire had already noticed him, even though he had only arrived yesterday.
Ye Hao was puzzled but quickly dismissed it.
After all, he was the Child of Fate. Being noticed by others was normal, and he had to get used to it.
"You all form into groups of five and scout inside Morninglight Town. If you find any enslaved demi-humans, you can begin a rescue. If you encounter special situations, feel free to come to me for help."
Ye Hao glanced at the surrounding players and issued a task. He also had an NPC template, allowing him to advance some energy as experience points to players, and he could extract twenty percent of the energy gained from players to strengthen himself.
Yesterday, Ye Hao used his foresight ability. He knew the general development of the "plot" to come. As the protagonist, Ye Hao only needed to collect energy and make appearances at critical moments, leaving the hard work to these players.
"The task progress has been updated. Everyone, form your teams!"
"Three mages, need two warriors!"
"Can you spare a mage for our team?"
"This lousy game turned out to be holy light?"
"…"
***
Of course, not all players formed teams. There were a few lone wolves, and Round-faced Fat Hen was one of them.
She wasn't here to complete tasks; she just wanted to explore the customs and culture of another world from a traveler's perspective. The thrill of exploring unknown territories and uncovering mysteries captivated her.
