F-Rank Soul Eater-Chapter 44: The Red Sword Inquisitors.

Chapter 44

Chapter 44: The Red Sword Inquisitors.
It was only after the declaration of his arrest that Soren recognized these guys.
As a big fan of Soul Mechas, he definitely knew them.
After all, there were one or two Soul Mecha pilots that had been arrested that he knew of.
Also, he knew what they were called and the kind of power they had.
The Red Sword Inquisitors.
Otherwise known simply as the Red Swords—and this was not just because of the huge red sword on their chest.
It was because of what they could do.
A man in his late thirties, with a clean-shaved head filled with tattoos leaking all the way to his face in fire patterns, stepped forward.
He was not overly huge like Commander Jared, but his presence was neither weak nor his attitude kind.
He had a full bearded face that hid his mouth while he spoke.
"I am Captain Scarvguard of the Empire’s Red Sword Inquisitors." He opened a document handed to him by another inquisitor.
"According to Article 12, Sections 1 to 10, detailing the guidelines of the Soulbound Warrior’s Act, you are under arrest for..." He paused.
Eyes widening.
He raised his head, shock evident in his eyes.
He looked at the file again. From the way his fingers scanned the document horizontally and then vertically, the list of crimes was neither small nor short.
Captain Scarvguard turned to the one that handed him the document. Giving him a questioning gaze.
The Inquisitor nodded.
Captain Scarvguard turned to Commander Jared, and he also nodded, affirming that those crimes were actually committed by Soren.
The captain’s eyes widen even more.
When he was told that they would be arresting a cadet for violations today, he had not expected this.
In fact, he had other important matters to attend to and thought it beneath him to pay attention to a mere cadet. Therefore, he did not bother reading the arrest warrant until now.
It was no wonder they sent him over and not any lower-ranked Inquisitor.
His gaze moved to Soren again. "YOU!?"
Soren looked around confused. He did not understand what was going on.
And no one was explaining it to him. Yet, he had a feeling that it was not his place to talk.
What he did not know was that the captain was in a similar state of perplexity.
"Urh..." The captain realized that he had let his bafflement show.
Cough.
"...According to Soulbound Knight regulations, your Glassheart will be taken from you, and your connection temporarily broken, until your trial."
As he spoke, the Inquisitor that handed him the arrest warrant stepped forward, sword unsheathed from his waist.
Unlike the blade Soren saw Boyed use against the Eldritch, this one had a thin red thread that glowed a giant light around its sharp edges.
Soren knew what it was.
The severance.
"Brace yourself," the Inquisitor advised.
The blade came down.
Scchhhlll
Right in between him and his Glassheart sitting on the table.
Soren gasped
.
His head fell back, muscles tightening as his fingers dug into the mattressbeneath him.
His breathing jerked a bit, then it came heavy, sweat gathering on his forehead.
"Most pass out, and others begin to cry from loneliness, but you... Impressive." Captain Scarvguard complimented sincerely. He waved a hand, ordering that Soren be taken away.
However, Soren did not even hear the compliment; all he could think about was the overwhelming relief that washed through him.
With his connection to Chronovore severed, all that hunger he had to hold back had vanished, and for a moment, his mind—no, his soul felt...
Quiet.
Peaceful.
Two Inquisitors lifted Soren, who had his head still slumped back from the euphoria of relief, from the bed. Their hands went under his armpit as they dragged him away.
"Captain Scarvguard," Commander Jared called. "The boy is heavily wounded. Is this not a bit excessive?"
"Excessive?" The captain raised a brow at Commander Jared. "With the unbelievable crimes stated here, it’s a mercy we did not already beat the living daylight out of him before taking him in." He grunted a bit as he followed the Inquisitors out.
But Commander Jared’s voice stopped him.
"Scarvguard... I need him safe."
A pause.
"...please." He added unwillingly.
Captain Scarvguard stopped, adequately surprised.
Commander Jared had a very fierce reputation. This was not just in the battlefield but also in the manner in which he handled his affairs.
There were rumors that when he was freshly out of the academy, he was stationed in a town. Unfortunately they disrespected him, and he slaughtered the entire town even before the eldritch could do the job.
Scarvguard’s predecessor had done the arrest back then.
When Jared was asked why he did it, he responded with a straight face—still stained with the blood of the townspeople.
"If they had respected me, the Eldritch wouldn’t have needed to."
Since then he had gotten the nickname.
Grave Marshal
Now, that same man, who did not even beg for his life that time. A stone-cold killer uttered the word ’please’?
Captain Scarvguard was baffled. He had to double-check the and confirm that Soren was not from any influential noble family or had acquired any kind of outstanding Shade.
The captain nodded at Commander Jared. "I’ll do my best." Then added. "If you really want to save the boy, you’ll have to find a way to face the Ivory family."
He left Commander Jared in place. The man was thinking hard about those words.
He was right. Soren’s crimes were many, and while the boy had successfully fought against two Eldritch of significant prowess and won, which should help his case, the most significant of his crimes was this.
He had killed a noble. And not just any noble.
It was a noble with a claim to a family’s title from a very dangerous House.
"Boyed!" He called.
Boyed walked into the room.
"Are you certain the boy is the one?" He asked.
"Boyed nodded. I have checked the records and asked the emergency stations around the league of towns to double-check.
There were rumors of a Dungie that abandoned a boy child there many years ago. Coupled with what that man said before he died, it all points out. He is a Waterfell. Also..." He stopped.
"Go on!" Commander Jared encouraged.
"You won’t like this one." He warned. "The old mechanic that took care of him."
"What about him? Is he not dead?" The commander scoffed.
"His body was ed missing before they could bury him..."
