Fate: I Just Want to Die and Sit on the Throne of Heroes-Chapter 92: Come, Atalanta, Call Me Daddy

Chapter 92

Chapter 92: Come, Atalanta, Call Me Daddy
The trees on either side were dense and green, the shadows swaying like waves.
Perhaps because Rowe had described Enkidu’s appearance in such precise detail, the inexperienced Atalanta believed him far too easily. Once her guard loosened, her mouth moved as if a gate had been lifted, and she chattered all the way through the forest.
She herself found that strange.
From childhood she had almost never interacted with outsiders. She was deeply wary of men and instinctively repulsed by them.
Yet she did not feel that repulsion toward Rowe.
Just intuition.
But as a huntress, she trusted her instincts the way a beast trusted its nose.
“We are here.”
In the middle of a sentence, Atalanta suddenly stopped and pointed forward.
“Lady Enkidu is sleeping here.”
“Here?”
Rowe followed her gesture.
What filled his vision was a vast flower.
It rose like a mountain in the very center of paradise. Its stem, coiling like a bundle of titanic ropes, twisted up into the sky, supporting a blossom-crown as broad as a cloud. Its lush petals draped from heaven all the way down to the earth.
Rowe halted and tilted his head back.
Chains of Heaven.
He smiled.
The enormous “flower” in front of him was woven entirely from the Chains of Heaven.
This was Enkidu’s power made manifest, a transformed form of “O humans, let your will be done on the gods” after the gods’ expulsion.
Its name was:
“O Son of Man, Guard My Beloved.”
Rowe quietly put the information he read into human language.
“What are you mumbling about?” Atalanta looked over, puzzled.
“Nothing.”
Rowe shook his head.
Just as he had suspected, this so-called paradise was built around Enkidu as its core, a world formed by the diffusion of her power.
And now, it seemed that Enkidu had entered a special state.
Slumber.
Or perhaps “evolution.”
“It seems you have been gaining quite a lot on your journey too.”
Rowe let his gaze fall from the giant flower and chose not to disturb it.
The “Saint” of Greece. It was a title even the gods acknowledged. To receive such a title, she must have been working ceaselessly all this time.
“Enkidu… how long has she been asleep?”
Atalanta opened her mouth to answer.
Before she could speak, a clear and gentle voice cut across her words.
“Teacher Enkidu has been asleep for three years.”
“Eh? Lady Artemis? When did you get here?”
Atalanta felt a light weight settle on her shoulder. She whipped her head around and saw that at some unknown moment, a new figure had appeared right beside her.
Her first instinct was to bow, but a hand stopped her.
“It is fine, Ata. No need to be so formal.”
The gentle voice flowed like moonlight. A pale hand brushed across Atalanta’s cheek.
Then the newcomer raised her eyes to look at Rowe.
Their gazes met.
“Moon Goddess Artemis?”
Rowe recognized her identity at a glance.
The Moon Goddess Artemis was just as her legend described: an exquisitely beautiful goddess.
Her hair was silver like pure moonlight. Her face was fresh and lovely, her pale irises glowing with a clear luminance. Her full figure was wrapped only loosely in white, and a ribbon of red traced along the cloth. Long legs crossed and leaned slightly forward, while she half rested against Atalanta’s back. Her ample chest pressed down and spread against Atalanta’s shoulders, and the curve of her raised hips swayed subtly with the drifting wind.
“Ah, Teacher, let me introduce him…”
Atalanta started to speak, but Artemis interrupted her.
“I know who he is.”
“Huh?”
Atalanta blinked, the words dying on her tongue.
Then she heard the goddess behind her speak, this time to her.
“Come now, Ata. Call him Father.”
Rowe: “?”
Atalanta: “?”
“Wait, why should I call this guy Father?”
Atalanta immediately exploded, metaphorical fur bristling.
Her impression of Rowe had certainly improved somewhat along the walk.
But that did not mean she would let some strange man step all over her. If it had been anyone other than the Moon Goddess saying this, the little huntress would likely have already tried to shoot them.
“Is that so? Why…”
Artemis tilted her head and glanced at Rowe. Her clear eyes blinked, innocent and pure, while the corners of her red lips carried a faint, unreadable curve.
“I do not really know either. This is what Teacher Enkidu told me.”
“Lady Enkidu? Wait. Father?”
Atalanta finally put the pieces together.
“You are the man Lady Enkidu has been searching for?”
Wonderful. Artemis was obviously doing this on purpose.
Rowe’s eyelid twitched once.
He regained his calm in the next heartbeat and simply said:
“Yes. I am Rowe.”
He then looked at Atalanta.
“Come, Atalanta. Call me Daddy.”
“?”
Why was he like this too?
Atalanta had long since grown used to Artemis’s occasional absentmindedness.
But this man…
“You said a while ago that Enkidu is like a mother to you, right?”
“Mm…?” Atalanta’s eyes widened. She could not deny it. She had said exactly that.
“My relationship with Enkidu…”
Rowe spread his hands.
“It is not strange to call me that, is it?”
There is a problem. There is a very big problem.
“Enough already, Atalanta.”
Rowe looked at her with a helpless expression, like he was watching a child throwing a tantrum.
“Ah, ah, ah!”
Atalanta’s bristling only intensified.
Now that she knew his identity, she could not treat him as an ordinary intruder, and that made it even harder to vent her frustration.
She could only stomp in place and fume.
“Damn it, damn it.”
Atalanta clutched her head, grinding her teeth.
Rowe, on the other hand, was completely calm.
He had long since developed countermeasures for the occasional harassment that came with being who he was.
Transfer the target of the attention.
Simply redirect the embarrassment to someone else.
As long as he was not the one feeling awkward, someone else inevitably would be.
It was at that moment that he met a pair of unclouded eyes and a gentle face.
The Moon Goddess Artemis looked straight at him.
She stepped away from Atalanta and came to stand directly before him, her gaze fixed on him without wavering.
“As expected of you… Sage.”
“As expected of me.”
Rowe remained exactly where he was, neither bowing his head nor softening his tone.
This was his consistent bearing toward gods.
Just as he was wondering whether Artemis would also be flustered or offended by that arrogance, she suddenly moved closer.
Her face approached his chest and came to rest lightly against him. Her lithe figure pressed in, her chest flattening and reshaping against him, sending ripples through the fabric. The fragrance of her skin brushed against his face. Her waist bent as if to bow, and the Moon Goddess Artemis leaned fully into Rowe’s embrace.
“On you…”
She drew in a quiet breath, her voice growing softer.
“There really is the scent of longing that Teacher Enkidu spoke of.”
A faint blush spread across her cheeks.
Yes. This was exactly the feeling of longing that Enkidu had described to her again and again.
“…”
This development felt slightly off script.
Wait. “Enkidu-sensei”? What exactly had Enkidu been teaching her?
To get a handle on that, Rowe reflexively activated the blessing Athena had given him. Thoughts stirred, and the blessing of “May your wisdom be forever like a clear mirror” began to trace and sort the lines of information implied in Artemis’s words.
That same blessing allowed Athena, in her temple in Athens, to instantly sense Rowe’s current state.
“Artemis. Looking is fine. Going that far is too much.”
Feeling the feedback, Athena suddenly rose from her throne, grit her teeth, and vanished from the temple.
Only the three Gorgon sisters were left exchanging puzzled glances.
“Is Lady Athena alright?”
