Not Even Human (2)
The chat was thrown into chaos.
― Backstab's making my head tingle, wow
― If John's not human, then what is he?!
― The main character definitely has something to do with Regenfarm.
― The amnesia thing is fishy too
― Suddenly it's turning into a detective story lol
Speculation about the main character's identity as someone with a regenerating body was rampant.
"If this was a multi-run, I'd have been even more surprised. To think he wouldn't be human..."
Lee Gyeongbok spoke, clearly as shocked by the development as anyone.
But soon, strings of "lol" started filling the chat.
― You're not human either, dude!
― The John and Purple sync is off the charts lol
― Even a not-human is shocked when they see another not-human!
― Seriously, Purple didn't even lose any health, so he must be even more surprised
― Now that I think about it...
― Is the no damage real?
― I didn't even notice he auto-recovers lol
In another sense, Lee Gyeongbok had also surpassed the boundaries of humanity.
"... I don't even know what I am."
John broke the silence, looking grave. Then, as if making a decision, he stepped forward, his expression resolute.
"Well..."
"But there's one thing I'm sure of."
Sandra flinched and stepped back, but John instead strode up to her and grabbed the barrel of her gun.
"Sandra, I want to help you."
John pressed the barrel of the gun to his own forehead, looking Sandra in the eyes with resolve.
"If you can't trust me, pull the trigger."
― Smells like a real man in here, sniff sniff
-???: If you're scared, just die!
― Is this Russian roulette? LOL
Sandra's finger trembled on the trigger guard. But she just couldn't shoot John.
"I'm sorry..."
Sandra lowered her head, tears streaming down her face.
― Sandra did nothing wrong!
― That's the realest thing ever lol
― It's normal to be shaken up after that, wtf
― But what if it wasn't John, but a viewer?
-???: I... (bang!)
― Just shoot right away, huh? lol
John embraced her as if to say he understood. As he gently wiped Sandra's tears from her cheek, he naturally cupped her chin.
Their kiss followed—and the screen faded to black.
― That hand was so smooth...
― This guy's a pro!
― Sandra, don't fall for it!
"Man, they're ending it here again..."
Lee Gyeongbok sounded a bit disappointed, bringing laughter to the chat.
― What did John even see? Show me, too!
― I hear the reconciliation scene goes hard...
― Insane, did he go that far?
― I meant a handshake for reconciliation!
― A handshake, lol, well I guess they did hold hands.
― Stop with the poetry jokes!
― Your head is full of dirty thoughts!
Viewers were skating close to the line as they chatted. Meanwhile, another cutscene began.
"Oh, looks like we're back. Let's focus."
John and Sandra came up the subway stairs—they'd used the tracks to return to the city center.
But the sky was covered in heavy, dark clouds, unlike when they'd left.
"It looks like it's going to rain."
"We should hurry back."
"Okay."
It seemed the two had returned to their earlier relationship. But Sandra's expression was still clouded.
"How am I even supposed to tell them..."
"It's fine. I'll be by your side."
"Thank you."
In front of the hotel.
Sandra lightly patted her cheeks, composing herself.
"Billy, lloyd, I'm ba..."
She walked in, trying to sound cheerful. But she trailed off.
The survivors who were supposed to be keeping watch were nowhere to be seen.
"Sandra?"
"Something's wrong."
There was no sign of movement.
Sandra and John instantly drew their pistols.
― What...?
― What's going on?
― No way, right?
Even the viewers felt uneasy.
"Billy? Lloyd? Helen?"
She called out the survivors' names. But there was no reply.
The hotel was eerily quiet, as if everyone had left.
At that moment, John, as if possessed, dashed off to one side.
"John?"
Sandra, startled, followed after him. Crouching on the floor, John cradled something—and peeking over his shoulder, she saw it.
A torn teddy bear.
― Oh...
― This is rough... The story goes hard...
-ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
The viewers sensed what had happened right away.
Before Sandra and John had left the hotel, a kid had tried to hand John the bear as a charm.
The developers included a flashback just to rub it in.
"No..."
John muttered low, his hand stained with blood. Without a word, the two dashed upstairs.
"Billy!"
Faint traces of barricaded furniture, black bullet marks and bloodstains on the walls, bodies collapsed beneath them.
Quivering as if possessed, sandra suddenly broke into a run.
"Sandra!"
John followed close behind.
Soon, they reached the top floor—the suite.
"No, no... this can't be..."
Sandra murmured like someone in a daze.
Beyond a shattered door and ruined furniture, a large curtain was blowing.
And beneath that curtain, something protruded—surrounded by bloodstains.
It was clear what was hidden beneath the curtain.
"Heh..."
Lee Gyeongbok let out a sigh without meaning to.
― Wow, shit
― They died in the regular route too, but not in a total wipeout like this...
― I thought only the difficulty was hardcore, but the story's even rougher
― The Scoville level is too high, damn
The viewers felt much the same. But the cutscene wasn't over.
With a rushing sound, rain began pouring in through a broken window.
The wind fluttered the curtain aside for an instant.
There were adult legs toward the outside, and small children's legs farther in.
Traces of someone trying to protect the children to the very end.

― Hey! Some things are sacred!
― Regenfarm bastards are insane.
― Way over the line, wtf
-〈Message deleted by moderation bot (Warning 1)〉
The chat exploded in outrage.
So many users used expletives that the moderation bot ended up deleting most of the messages.
That's how immersive his broadcast was.
Unlike most streamers, Lee Gyeongbok had set the capsule for maximum immersion.
So there weren't even occasional reminders like the HUD that this was a "game".
All the more during cutscenes, Lee Gyeongbok stayed silent for immersion—creating a powerful synergy.
"... That's crossing the line."
Lee Gyeongbok felt it too. Even though it was just a game, he couldn't help but feel furious.
"If only, if only I'd just taken everyone with me..."
"Sandra..."
"What do we do? John... what do we do..."
Sandra sobbed.
She'd barely managed to collect herself, only for all her neighbors and companions to be dead.
Just the fact that she wasn't fainting on the spot was impressive. John grit his teeth as he looked at her.
"How did Regenfarm move so quickly..."
John hadn't even finished speaking.
"Graaaagh!"
A scream, closer to a roar, echoed from below. Sandra and John glanced at each other and rushed out of the room.
― A survivor showed up!
― Please!
― Even doggum wouldn't do a total wipe if it had any conscience at all
― Something feels off though...
The chat reflected their mounting tension.
But Lee Gyeongbok's thoughts were different.
'This sense...'
The scream was accompanied by a tingling sixth sense that ran through him. The same kind of dread he'd felt with Cluster and the giant Jarakne.
'It's a boss!'
John and Sandra rushed down to the lobby. They saw a figure screaming.
But it wasn't anyone they hoped for.
"... What is that?"
It was a monster, grotesquely swollen, its back turned to them. Its entire mass was twisted muscle.
― Definitely a boss fight, wow
― This is the Jaigant showing up
― Info) Jaigant is like a final boss in the main route.
― It can one-shot you, period;;
― Stamina means nothing against this.
― If you don't hit the weak point, even bullets don't work...
― And if you just run, it regenerates.
― Even Purple's going to have a rough time
The viewers recognized what it was. But there was something even they didn't know.
"I never... urgh... heard about side effects like this..."
A voice came from the Jaigant.
- ?????
― What?
― Don't tell me it's a sentient Jaigant?
― These doggum devs keep crossing the line, wtf.
― Why would you design a level like this?
― Devs should have to beat the game themselves before they release it.
― This is some Beggar's Union, yeah.
It felt almost malicious.
But true malice lay ahead.
As Jaigant turned around, John and Sandra's eyes widened. A small face was buried in the grotesque mass of muscle.
It was a face everyone knew.
"... Logan?!"
"How...?!"
The viewers reacted no differently from the characters.
― Why are you here?
― How did you survive? Wtf!
― He must be working with Regenfarm, seriously
― He regenerated his severed arm.
― This guy ratted them out, damn it...
-〈Message deleted by moderation bot (Warning 2)〉
― I thought he was just a great shit, but he's the ultimate shit!
Logan's face was covered in dark veins as he sneered at John and Sandra.
"Ahh... I guess it doesn't matter. Because I can kill every last one of you now!"
Logan charged right at them.
"Sandra!"
They hurled themselves aside in panic, barely dodging but splitting in opposite directions.
Logan crashed into the wall with a thunderous crash, then, seemingly unhurt, began pounding the wall with his huge fists.
"I'll smash you all to pieces!"
As Logan roared like a beast and kept pounding, the ceiling began collapsing.
"John!"
The falling rubble separated them—John and Logan inside, sandra outside.
The controls returned to Lee Gyeongbok.
The boss fight had begun.
"Jaigant Logan, huh. Seems like a tough boss."
Just facing him, Lee Gyeongbok's sixth sense wouldn't stop sounding the alarm. Clearly, the chat hadn't been exaggerating about dying in one hit.
― Yeah, he's really tough...
― I quit because of this guy.
― You have to dodge, no other way.
― At least in the main route the area's open, but what's with this ring match?
― How do you win if he's got intelligence on top?
Most viewers doubted even Purple could pull through unscathed.
But because it was Purple...
['RecruitingForRevenge' suggests a quest!]
[Objective – Defeat Logan by wearing him down as much as possible]
[Reward – 10,000 won]
Someone still believed.
― Wearing him down?
― Random quest, what's this?
― For some reason, if it's Purple, feels like he'll one-shot him anyway.
― Ah lol I'm in!
['AvengersAssemble' adds to the quest reward.]
[Total reward – 60,000 won]
Like before, viewers could pool donations to create a group quest with a larger reward.
This was one such case.
― Can Purple hyung pull it off?
― Purple can't let Logan off easy, lol
― No way you could let this go.
Maybe it was because donations had been blocked for a while.
['GiveAHardLesson' adds to the quest reward.]
[Total reward – 90,000 won]
['PurpleWillDoIt' adds to the quest reward.]
[Total reward – 110,000 won]
['Kidㅠㅠ' adds to the quest reward.]
[Total reward – 150,000 won]
Viewer participation was snowballing, and the total climbed rapidly.
― But isn't this too hard?
― What if he just dies from trying?
― Just retry, right?
― But then the no-death record is gone!
― Come on, Purple will figure it out!
Some voiced concern, but most were already on board.
['Let'sDoItPerfectly' adds to the quest reward.]
[Total reward – 1,197,000 won]
The amount said it all.
Lee Gyeongbok nodded.
"I was thinking I'd like to teach this guy—ahem, I mean, this character—a lesson anyway."
There was no reason to refuse.
It seemed hard, but not impossible at all.
And more than anything, he didn't want to let down his viewers.
-lol you almost slipped with your language
― I don't care if you cuss him out
― Purple almost got caught by Goblin King last time~
― Let's give him hell!
― Yeah, this is Purple for you.
Viewers didn't hide their excitement. As Lee Gyeongbok accepted the quest, paused time started ticking again.
"John!"
Sandra, from outside, fired a pistol at Logan.
The gunshot hit Logan, but that was all—it couldn't penetrate his muscle at all.
With a horrifying grin, logan laughed.
"God, this body feels incredible. Sandra, I'll tear you to pieces—just wait!"
Lee Gyeongbok frowned slightly.
"Bullets really don't work, huh. In that case..."
He held a combat knife taken from a mercenary in one hand, and gripped a golden shotgun in the other.
― Whoa! Sick visuals, lol
― If a pistol fails, it's gotta be a shotgun
― If you need a gun, get the biggest one possible!
― How does he shoot one-handed though, lol
― Why the knife though?
A shotgun made sense, but a knife?
Lee Gyeongbok didn't bother to explain. He preferred showing through his actions.
'It's coming.'
His blaring sixth sense abruptly went silent—and then, just like déjà vu, a flood of hyper-real perceptions swept over his whole body.
Lee Gyeongbok followed that 'premonition.'
"Die!"
Logan charged at a terrifying speed.
But Lee Gyeongbok not only got out of his path a step earlier, but also, with skillful movement, slid past and slashed at his running ankle.
Still, his offensive didn't end there. His arms crossed, and the barrel of the shotgun aimed straight at the split flesh.
'No need for fine aim at this range.'
That was why he held the shotgun one-handed.
With a thunderous bang, the pellets dug into Logan's split wound.
"Gaaaaargh!"
With a scream, logan rolled across the floor. Only then did the viewers snap back to their senses.
― What was that just now?
― He actually charged head-on at a giant?
― One misstep and it would be over, wtf wtf
― Lol, it's all thanks to having guts this big.
― For real, he's got a heart of steel~
― Living tip) If bullets won't stick, just shoot from inside.
The chat went wild at the near-stunt-level opening. But this was only the beginning.
"I'll test if zombies can die from excessive bleeding."
Lee Gyeongbok calmly spoke as he flicked the blood off his blade.
― Purple's got excessive swag lolol
― He just whips around but why is it so cool tho lolol
― Does his voice play a factor? I admit!
― Fact) All of it.
Meanwhile, logan staggered back up.
"You goddamned bastard!"
Grotesquely twisted, logan lunged at him again. The wound on his ankle had already healed.
But since he couldn't remove the foreign object inside the wound, he still limped.
"Die!"
Still, he seemed to have learned something and didn't just rush in recklessly this time. Instead, he kept his distance, leveraging his massive body size.
When Logan punched forward, there was a loud pop in the air. The strength from those huge muscles greatly increased the punch's speed and power.
But only if it landed would that matter.
― Wow lolololol
― Can you even see that?
― The iconic line of fighting, fPS, and shooting games just dropped lolol
― Isn't Purple doing all three right now?
Punches pouring like machine gun fire. But Lee Gyeongbok didn't let a single attack land.
'I can see it all.'
The result of his immersion in the game, his anger, and heightened alertness from the difficulty.
Not only did he evade every attack, he also countered with the combat knife at every opening.
"Raaaaaargh!"
Logan's arms were slashed, blood streaming as he screamed.
― Damn!
― Lol that's satisfying to watch.
― Logan just got a real taste of Purple, huh?
― But can that knife even pierce all that muscle?
― Look closely, he only targets the tendons.
― Huh...? Is that possible?
― That looks right. He can't lift his arms.
Just as chat noted, logan's arms trembled as they hung limp.
'In the end, it's a humanoid model.'
Lee Gyeongbok, a fitness enthusiast himself, had a deep understanding of muscles.
No matter how big the muscle, if the tendons connecting them are damaged, they're useless.
"If you didn't exist—!"
Logan, growing further enraged, raised his limp arms again, likely thanks to his kind's unique regeneration.
But his lost blood wasn't replenished, and Logan realized close quarters no longer suited him.
"I'll crush you flat!"
Logan changed tactics. He grabbed debris forming the makeshift barricade and flung it overhead.
The partially collapsed ceiling cracked again.
"Raaaaaargh!"
Not stopping there, logan hurled himself at a nearby wall. With a dull thud, the entire hotel trembled.
― Huh?
― Is this phase 2, ffs
― Did they make new attack patterns too?
― These devs just have no limits, lol
The viewers' predictions were spot on.
With a rumble, debris started falling from above. But that wasn't all.
"Diiiiiie!"
Logan began throwing whatever he could grab.
Now Lee Gyeongbok had to dodge both incoming thrown debris from the front and rubble falling from above.
― This just turned into a shooting game lol
― Who was the viewer who mentioned this earlier!
― Wait;;; why is it like this?
― How are you supposed to beat this!?
― Is this Purple's first death run? q_q
At the harrowing sight, viewers expected a game over.
But as always—
Lee Gyeongbok exceeded their expectations.
"Here's my opening."
With those words, he kicked off the floor. At the same time, he sheathed the combat knife and gripped his baton.
― Opening?
― What is he saying?
― I only see certain death?
― Why pull out the baton?
― One, two, three, Purple fighting!
The chat was full of question marks.
As if it was the most natural thing in the world, Lee Gyeongbok dodged the flying objects.
He paused for a second, and debris falling in front collided with a thrown object. He sprang onto the rubble.
'This should count as a quest success, right?'
Lee Gyeongbok swung his hips, smacking aside the smaller falling debris with his baton.
Whoosh—the debris shot off, striking Logan right across the face.
"Argh!"
The projectiles faltered.
Lee Gyeongbok landed and dashed. Stepping off the fallen debris again, he kicked the pillar.
The distance closed in a flash.
He shoved the baton into Logan's open mouth.
"Say 'ah.'"
Logan's eyes bulged in shock.
Lee Gyeongbok aimed the shotgun into his gaping mouth.
Click went the trigger.
With a dull thud, logan's eyes rolled back. His muscle was so thick that the shot couldn't blow through.
With a heavy crash, logan collapsed.
― Now, open wide please^^
― Are you a dentist, lol
― Shotgun implant, lololol
― Legendary scene again lolol
― Queue-ha! Queue-ha! Queue-ha! Queue-ha!
― We are living in the age of Purple.
― Purple is a god! Purple is a god! Purple is a god!
― God: No, I am 'Purple.'
― Breaking news) National language institute swaps 'legend' for 'Purple.'
― Lol, they're both English words anyway
The chat raced madly.
[Quest Success!]
['RecruitingVengeanceSquad' and 131 others have donated '1,270,000' won!]
The quest clear message appeared as well. Even during the battle, the donation total had ticked up.
"Thanks for marking it as a success. I was worried I made it look too easy..."
Lee Gyeongbok grinned awkwardly and thanked them, and the chat turned yet again.
― Breaking his legs and cutting his tendons is easy?
― Purple, I didn't know you were so scary.
― For real, that smile is killer
― Logan's not human anyway, so it's fine^^
Playful comments scrolled by.
Meanwhile, control was relinquished and the cutscene resumed.
"John! Are you okay!?"
"Yes. But I think the building's about to collapse. Hurry..."
"But!"
The building that Logan had shaken looked like it could fall at any moment. Sandra looked up, devastated.
She was no doubt thinking of the survivors whose bodies they couldn't even gather.
"Sandra!"
"... Okay!"
But there was no time.
At John's urging, she closed her eyes tight and ran out with him.
Almost simultaneously, the building began to collapse.
A torrential downpour drenched them both.
"... Regenfarm."
Sandra gritted her teeth. Her tears mixed with the rain.
"The opportunity will come."
John stared at the rubble, clenching his fist. Then, his vision slowly faded to black.
― Let's go lesson time for Regenfarm!
― If the devs have half a mind, there'll be a total massacre route.
― For real, they need to add a musou mode too
As the viewers called for revenge, the scene shifted.
"Several days passed after that."
With a city skyline and a narrator's voice, the chat filled with question marks.
― What is this?
― Is Purple talking?
― No, sounds like a narrator.
― Sounds like a pro VA lol
"I just stayed put."
Lee Gyeongbok tossed in a single remark.
― Lol this is so confusing!
― Gotta say, Purple's voice is better
― For real lol, you can tell when it's synthesized
― If I heard narration in my own voice I'd want to smack myself lol
Lee Gyeongbok chuckled at their reactions.
"So much has changed. Sandra and I both needed rest."
The cutscene changed to Sandra and John securing a safehouse and foraging for food and supplies, scenes passing like a panorama.
"Sorrow isn't easily erased. Nor did we want to erase it."
John's tone was growing stronger.
"There's only one reason to endure this hellish reality. It was so that the sorrow we felt would remain engraved in our hearts."
Sandra and John made their way through the city. Before long, a huge building came into view.
Unlike the ruined city, the building stood intact, with a now-familiar emblem hanging outside.
"Regenfarm must pay for their crimes."
With John's words, the scene faded to darkness.
― Cancer! Caaaaaaaaancer!
― Yeah, regenfarm is literal cancer lol
― Damn, gonna go wreck Regenfarm now.
― Lol, gotta excise cancer fast
Text appeared on the blacked-out screen.
[Chapter 3. 'No way out' End]
Chapter 3 had ended.
― Oh lol the preview's next
― Everyone sit down!
― Grab your popcorn!
― Move your head, come on
― Install your smart link already!
As expected, the preview cutscene for Chapter 4 started.
John and Sandra were lying on the rooftop, surveilling the Regenfarm HQ.
"... There are way too many mercenaries."
"They're practically an army, not just security."
Mercenaries armed with not only heavy weapons but armored vehicles—no ordinary pharmaceutical company could field such things.
― These mercenaries are brutal.
― The old route wasn't this hardcore, right?
― For real lol, where'd they get the armored cars?
Sandra sighed and shook her head.
"A frontal assault is suicide."
"It'd be nice if there was a gap somewhere..."
Just then, as John narrowed his eyes and checked around—
〈......llo?〉
Static crackled and a faint voice came through. John and Sandra exchanged surprised looks.
"John, the radio."
〈Hello?〉
The sound came from the police radio.
― What is this?
― Oh...!
― HOXY?
― Lol, it's that
― Shh! The lore nerd's watching, shut up
Some viewers seemed to recognize something.
John hesitated to answer but soon nodded at Sandra and picked up the transmission.
"... Who are you?"
〈Ah, thank goodness. I got through.〉
"Answer first."
〈I'm Jessica, a researcher at Regenfarm.〉
Their eyes widened at the mention of Regenfarm.
― Wow lolololol
― Jessica shows up here?
― While Sandra is still alive?
― Wtf wtf
― Lore nerds getting hyped over their own knowledge?
― Is that a spoiler? The lore nerd is quiet.
― Info) Jessica is the second heroine.
― Does Purple remarry?
― Lol what do you mean, 'remarry'
The chat was thrown into confusion by a new character's appearance.
The cutscene continued dutifully.
〈Wait! Don't misunderstand! I'm preparing to blow the whistle!〉
Jessica continued in a panicked voice.
"Whistleblower...?"
〈I've been collecting evidence of Regenfarm's wrongdoings. I've been sending regular radio calls in hopes there was someone to help. You're police, right?〉
John frowned slightly at her question.
〈Thank goodness. I was wondering what to do—no one else ever picked up... Anyway, could you please help me?〉
"Help? With what, exactly?"
〈The evidence and a vaccine, they must get outside. If you can get them out, the army will come and resolve everything.〉
"But we don't have a way in..."
〈No, there is one.〉
At Jessica's confident words, they listened more intently.
〈There's a sewer connected to the lab. No one will be there.〉
With that, the cutscene abruptly cut off.
― Damn! They're reviving this plotline too.
― I told you, this is made for replayability lol
― Sandra and Jessica will fight over John lol
― I only stan Sandra!
― No, jessica is super cute too!
The viewers cheerfully bantered, awaiting the next chapter.
But Lee Gyeongbok didn't press start.
― Um... this feels familiar?
― No way...
― No, no way Purple would do that.
The chat grew anxious.
Lee Gyeongbok clapped his hands lightly.
"Today was fun. The story developments were shocking too—I guess that's why Bark is so popular."
― Stop the outro!
― Please play more!
― You can't leave us now!
― But... can we just keep chatting in here?
― But that boss fight must be exhausting lol
― True lol
Most viewers pleaded, but some understood.
The boss fight looked that draining.
"Anyway, thanks for watching! I'll see you again on the next broadcast!"
Regardless, Lee Gyeongbok's mind didn't change.
― Instant stream end lol the chat gets instantly axed
― Purple really knows how to cut it off, lol
― I'll miss it ;_;
― Sob, at least dinner was good today
― Purbai!
― Bye!
Viewers gave up at last.
"Trbai!"
Lee Gyeongbok smiled as he waved goodbye.
