Episode 17 – Includes Paid Advertisement (3)
As soon as the game began, a cutscene started. John and Sandra were looking at the radio with serious expressions.
"Ah, I guess this is right after they received the transmission."
–Looks like it? The background is the same as in the preview.
–Seems to be right after they got in contact with Jessica.
–???: Oppa, who was that woman just now?
–LOL suddenly it's turning into an interrogation scene
–Are we watching 'Jealous Sandra' today, haha
The viewers agreed with Lee Gyeongbok's commentary.
In the meantime, John stood up from his seat. As he prepared his equipment, sandra stopped him.
"Sandra?"
"This might be a trap."
Her gaze sharpened.
"That woman, jessica, is ultimately a member of Regenfarm as well. Maybe they're trying to lure survivors like this to eliminate them..."
Her words stirred up the chat window.
–Kingly suspicion!
–As expected, sandra-chan is the best.
–For real, who trusts a radio transmission at face value?
–It's really different having Sandra here, haha
The viewers were siding with Sandra's opinion. But not everyone agreed.
–So many newbies today, lol
–If you don't know, at least clear the regular route first.
–For real, jessica's a heroine too, what's with the hate
–Y'all thinking John's going to cheat right away and get the kill scene?
The viewers who had already cleared the regular routes actively defended her. They already knew Jessica was an outstanding ally.
"Sandra, I don't fully trust her either."
"John..."
"But how else would Jessica have known to contact us?"
"That's..."
"You know better than anyone there are no police left, right?"
Sandra closed her mouth at those words. John gently put his hand on her shoulder.
"Even if it's a trap, it doesn't matter. I'll protect you."
"John..."
Sandra's glistening eyes looked up at John.
–Sandra's immediately reassured?
–Haha, jessica or whoever, no comparison
–Anyway, the main heroine's Sandra, that's just how it is~
–Purple does the action but John's got all the sweetness, lol
–Seriously, it's so unfair~
–A scene like this, and then they'll edit out the bed scene!
–Doggum guys, where's your conscience?
Most viewers were already Sandra fans and enjoyed the reactions.
"And... I really want to meet Jessica."
But at John's next line, the mood in the chat suddenly changed.
–Huh? Is he hinting at something?
–Is he boldly requesting a rebound relationship? LOL
–Honestly, if you see Jessica, your mind will change
–Our Queen-sica is pretty too!
–Jessica fans, let's gooo!
–Only Sandra. Only Sandra. Only Sandra. Only Sandra.
–Sandra's fans, calm down!
–Is this going to be a 'Nice Boat' ending...
At that moment, jessica fans jumped in, and the chat turned chaotic. John continued his words.
"My body... I'm sure it has something to do with Regenfarm. If I come into contact with Jessica, I might be able to find something out."
"Ah..."
Sandra's eyes wavered.
Amid the cutscene, a fleeting image from the past appeared—her asking John if he was really human, then fading away.
"Okay."
Sandra eventually stood up to follow him. The screen faded to black and the cutscene transitioned.
The two arrived in front of a sewer, where wastewater was flowing out.
–Wow, why's the sewer so realistic
–Why does it feel like I can smell it lol
–For real, I suddenly sense the sewer stench.
–Is this synesthesia or what?
"It's not as strong as I thought... but it's unpleasant."
Lee Gyeongbok looked at the chat and said.
While it wasn't enough to be called a stench, it was still an uncomfortable smell.
–Probably because Purple set immersion to maximum, lol
–For real, normally you wouldn't feel an unpleasant sensation like this.
–But on the other hand, good things feel way better, haha
–You know the law of equivalent exchange!
–ㅇㄷㅆ (an emoticon or slang)
"Ah, it's fading quickly. Maybe I got used to it, or maybe it's just for atmosphere."
Lee Gyeongbok typed the next comment. That really did happen, too.
'Still, since this is an advertisement broadcast...'
There was no reason to make any remarks that might make the game look bad.
Of course, he'd already confirmed with the developers that he could play freely, but professional courtesy was still important.
"There really aren't any mercenaries left."
"That's a relief. But inside, it doesn't look like there's any lighting..."
While Sandra kept watch, John shone his flashlight on the entrance.
The dark, humid inside of the sewer was revealed. Cutting through complete darkness, John and Sandra entered.
With every step, there was a splashing sound.
"Jessica."
John turned on the radio and spoke, but only heard static.
"Looks like we can't reach her in here."
"Yeah, we'll have to go deeper for signal range."
To reestablish contact with Jessica, they had to venture further inside. The camera panned to the sewer entrance behind them.
The light of the entrance, growing fainter, finally disappeared as they walked.
–Scary, yikes
–What, is the door closing?
–No, just showing they're far from the entrance.
–No way they'll just move on from this.
–For real, something's definitely about to happen.
–In the regular route, how'd they get into HQ?
–They snuck in, hiding in a mercenary vehicle.
While the chat buzzed, the cutscene changed again. The two, relying on their flashlights, walked through darkness.
'... Ah, looks like something's about to pop up.'
Sensing the gathering dread, Lee Gyeongbok held his breath.
"Jessica, jessica?"
John tried to call again, but still got no answer. Only the static and the splashing could be heard.
But something felt off.
"John?"
Sandra, watching their rear, suddenly bumped into John. As she turned to ask, John raised his finger to his lips.
"Do you hear that sound?"
"A sound?"
–Hear what?
–What's that?
–Ugh... is it a jump scare?
–Okay, muting just in case.
–I learned to read lips for moments like this.
–Lip-reading, lolol
The viewers were convinced something would suddenly jump out. But nothing did—at least not yet.
Instead, they finally heard what John was hearing.
Different from before, it was a hissing water sound. But the two were standing still—there should have been no sound.
Which meant...
"John—!"
"Something's coming!"
With that shout, control returned to Lee Gyeongbok.
"This way!"
The sewer wasn't just a straight path. There were forks, and Lee Gyeongbok and Sandra were standing at one of those junctions.
–But how can you tell for sure?
–The sound echoes all over the place.
–He just guessed, didn't he?
–He's really using sound positioning, wow
–With Purple, it works, lol
Lee Gyeongbok quickly turned his flashlight, and something writhed beyond the dark corridor.
In an instant, the shadow leapt into the beam of light.
"Rats...!?"
Sandra's eyes widened.
It was a rat. Black fur, contaminated by sewage, and eyes bloodshot red.
Except it wasn't just one. Between the soaked black fur, countless red eyes flashed.
It was comprised of literally hundreds of rats, each one clustered together like cells.
–Wow, wTF
–Is this good design?... I can't even judge
–If you're cursing in a zombie game, the design's good, lol
–Is this similar to Cluster?
The viewers speculated about the breed of this zombie rat. Since this was a previously unreleased route, the zombie was a new type as well.
Meanwhile, Lee Gyeongbok quickly swapped gear. He gripped the golden shotgun in both hands and aimed at the creature.
Since Sandra also held a flashlight, there was no issue with visibility. There was no reason to hesitate. With a thunderous noise, the shotgun swept through the zombie rat horde.
With a wet splat, the rats were instantly beaten to a pulp.
–Instantly slaughtered, huh?
–Disgusting, but it has no real substance.
–Will something like this ever stop Purple?
–Way too easy.
–Suddenly, it's baby mode
Viewers assumed the problem was solved just like that.
"No, not yet."
Lee Gyeongbok thought otherwise.
Because the ominous presence that had been a single lump suddenly spread out in all directions.
The intact rats split off and started running along the walls and ceiling.
–Wait, they can split too?
–Detachable zombie rats!?
–How are you supposed to deal with this...
–Once again, way over the top.
–So actually, exploding them just made it worse
–Isn't there a flamethrower or something?
Viewers grumbled as the zombie rats swarmed.
And right at that moment...
['CapCompany_kor' donated '10,000' won.]
[You don't have to kill them all! You can run away! If you don't, you might regret it!]
A donation appeared with a message.
–Huh? Donations turned back on?
–LOL doggum's here
–Wait, why can only doggum donate?
–Host! Open donations for everyone!
–Donation discrimination, what is this?
Some viewers were confused. Had Lee Gyeongbok made a mistake?
Of course not.
'Ah, that's what this is.'
Lee Gyeongbok had blocked regular viewers from donating, but allowed exceptions for the developers' account.
In cases like with Jaigant Logan, Lee Gyeongbok couldn't explain every scenario himself.
Since progressing through the splits while knowing the outcomes would make the broadcast less interesting, they had agreed that the developer could alert him about branching points via donations during the stream.
–First time seeing a 'homework' stream?
–So many fresh faces today
–What do you mean, 'regret'?
–Stop telling Purple to do this or that;;
–Let Purple do whatever!
Fortunately, most viewers were used to this kind of advertisement stream.
That meant Lee Gyeongbok didn't have to stop the game. He could follow the donation's advice if he wanted, but the choice was ultimately his.
Lee Gyeongbok smiled faintly.
"If you wanted to scare me into running away..."
He put aside the shotgun and took a combat knife in one hand, a pistol in the other.
Then he crouched slightly, crossing his arms in readiness for anything.
"You should have brought a tougher guy."
At that line, the chat exploded.
–Is he really going to take them all?
–Isn't this too much, even for a stream?
–Even doggum's official advice is to run, lol
–Why are there so many non-believers?
–Pur-relujah! Pur-relujah!
–Don't see through human eyes, but with Purple's eyes~
–Don't trust the devs! Trust Purple!
But Lee Gyeongbok didn't glance at the chat.
In the dark corridor, the writhing shadows and red eyes, the rapid patter of footsteps echoing everywhere, the stench seeping through the shifting air.
His sharpened senses began absorbing the information, and his honed sixth sense took over the field.
At the same time, he felt the rats swarming in from every direction.
"It's time."
With those words, Lee Gyeongbok moved. The combat knife sliced falling rats in half, bullets from his pistol burst their bodies.
It didn't matter where the creatures came from. Lee Gyeongbok's blade and bullets already pointed that way first.
–Insane, lolol
–The blood splatter, wow
–That speed, is it real?
–Looks like he's painting in the air
–Never seen anything like it
As one viewer said, it looked less like he was wielding a knife and more like he was painting with a brush.
The blood spray painted the air, the glinting muzzle flashes created colorful shadows like fireworks.
–Wow... look at Purple's eyes.
–Crazy, just crazy.
–He's really processing it all in real time?
–LOL, he's not human.
What amazed viewers next were Lee Gyeongbok's eyes, captured whenever the muzzle flashed.
The slight tremor in those eyes looked mystical—almost frightening.
"My god..."
To keep his distance, Lee Gyeongbok took small steps back. Sandra retreated close behind, witnessing his martial prowess firsthand.
Perhaps shocked by the overwhelming spectacle, she didn't notice the threat at her feet.
"Ah!"
By the time she realized, it was too late.
Hidden beneath the shallow water, zombie rats had rushed at her.
With no time to react—
But Lee Gyeongbok instantly spun and aimed his pistol.
With a snap, he twisted his pistol free from her holster at her side, yanked her closer, and used that force to swing his knife.
With a slicing sound, the rats split apart.
–What just happened?
–Can someone explain what that was?
–Sandra almost died, that was close.
–Suddenly, the rats targeted Sandra.
Lee Gyeongbok frowned. He distinctly sensed something was off.
'... They're suddenly focusing only on Sandra?'
The movement of the rats, transmitted through his sixth sense, had changed. But the outcome didn't.
He finished off the remaining rats with his knife, sometimes by booting or smashing them.
–Those rats only went for Sandra
–Is Sandra supposed to die here?
–Looks like it, lol
–So the regret the dev mentioned was that after all
–But he saved her?
–Regret (not)
Only after the sewage was stained red did the battle end.
–Another legendary scene!
–Pur-relujah! Pur-relujah! Pur-relujah!
–???: You can run away. (seriously, they said this)
–Haha, if you can win, who's gonna run?
–Queue up! Queue up!
–Perfect Q-tube highlight, nailed it
–Tnight Hot Clip, queue it up!
The chat immediately reacted.
In the meantime, the cutscene resumed.
"Sandra, are you okay?!"
"Yes, yes... I was startled, but I'm fine."
Catching her breath, she looked back at the corpses of the rats.
"... It looks like the virus is mixed into the sewage."
"I think so too."
The two now knew even the sewers weren't safe; their expressions darkened. That's when static interrupted them.
〈John? John? Are you there?〉
It was Jessica's voice.
John exchanged a look with Sandra. He nodded and picked up the radio.
"Yes, I'm here."
〈Oh, thank goodness! Did you get to the sewers?〉
"... Yes. But there was an unexpected problem."
〈A problem?〉
John explained about the zombie rats. On the other side, jessica sounded truly shocked.
〈Z-zombies in the sewers?! I-I had no idea!〉
"Really?"
Sandra, who had been listening in silence, snapped at her sharply.
–Sandra's throwing shade!
–Jessica gives off such sly vibes
–For real, she sounds like she knew but's pretending not to
–Here come the haters again
–We haven't even seen Jessica's face yet, that's why, lol
–I like Sandra, but polite Jessica is better, hehe
The chat split into Sandra and Jessica camps and started bickering anew.
〈It's true. But... those sewers connect to where they dispose of animals from failed drug tests.〉
"Experiments?"
〈Yes. I think the rats probably fed on the corpses. And maybe it's not just the rats.〉
"Are you telling us this just now? We almost died here."
When Sandra questioned her, a tearful voice came over the radio.
〈I'm sorry... I really didn't know. Please, go back! I'll find another route for you!〉
John and Sandra exchanged another look. Then Sandra sighed deeply.
"... Fine. Maybe we would've had no chance then anyway. Just guide us properly."
〈Yes, yes! Okay! Umm, on the sewer wall, you'll see a passage marked with an L. If you keep to that, it leads to the lab!〉
"Understood. We'll contact you again."
John hung up. The screen faded to black.
During that brief pause, a donation came in.
['CapCompany_kor' donated '10,000' won.]
[Uh, if you run away there's a cutscene for that too, and some special gimmicks for handling it. Also, if you do this, the game's volume... uh, never mind. Sob.]
The chat became swamped with "LOL."
–Doggum's cute, haha
–Long comment chewer, go home
–For real, for that much writing, at least 50k won!
–(Snoring emote)
–The volume was there, then suddenly it was gone.
–???: You should have brought a stronger guy.
['CapCompany_kor' donated '50,000' won.]
[I'm sorry for the long post, sob... but I'm donating from my own pocket. Please be nice to Bark... Also, good luck Purple! (By the way, I personally support Sandra.)]
–Doggum isn't a big company? Why's it so humble...
–For 50,000, viewers, bow down!
–Packing in lots for the price, lol
–Sandra bias, what is this!
–Jessica fans, time to rise up!
Lee Gyeongbok looked at their reaction and said,
"It was an interesting stage regardless. Sandra almost died, but fortunately, I saved her. Her affinity probably went way up, don't you think?"
–Trying to spin it, huh? lol
–Spitting insults with a smile?
–Doggum guys! Leave Sandra alone!
–Don't mess with our Sandra!
–Honestly, only Purple could've cleared this
–Now it's obvious why the developers told you to run
–But of course! Saved her anyway~
–If it weren't for Purple, sandra would be gone by now
The viewers half-joked, half-complained.
"Don't worry too much,"
Lee Gyeongbok said to those viewers.
"Even if it's an ad, nothing changes. I'm going to play perfectly."
Such a simple line.
But coming from Lee Gyeongbok himself, it was different from anyone else.
–Conqueror's aura? Nope, it's Purple's confidence.
–Why does it suit him so much!
–Pur-man! Pur-man!
–Take Sandra to the end!
–Who cares about the scenario! We have Purple!
–Nobody here missed the Purple coin, right?
The viewers truly believed him.
