Over The Perfect (3)
Choi Byeonghun slapped his forehead with a sharp smack.
"Wow, seriously, this is insane."
He twitched his lips, unable to hold back a laugh.
"How many video points did we just get from this segment alone?"
Lee Gyeongbok's performance was impressive as always, but this time, the enthusiastic participation of his hardcore fans became a major highlight.
In his mind, it already felt as though a full episode cut had come together.
"Keep an eye on your condition."
Park Juho beside him spoke in a cold tone, bringing him back to earth.
"If you're getting this much content from the start, it means you'll have a ton more work later."
"Yeah yeah, I know, man. What do you take me for? I can be adaptive too. First, I'll pick out the sources, and if it starts to get overwhelming, I'll immediately get a backup editor to help out."
"That sounds wise. Besides, you'll probably get more content soon anyway."
At Park Juho's words, Choi Byeonghun's eyes widened.
"More content?"
Instead of answering, Park Juho transmitted a screen to him via the smart link. As the creator and observer of the practice game room, he could monitor all the players.
The transmitted screen showed four participants moving together.
"Oh, aren't these the guys?"
Choi Byeonghun soon recognized them.
"Yeah. They're actual friends—subscribers who know each other in real life."
Among the pre-registrants for the event, these college students had uniquely introduced themselves as real-life friends. And they weren't just close—they were also highly skilled Gunner Ground players.
"What was their team name again?"
"Holycow."
They were the winners of the student division of the Korean Gunner Ground League, kGL. Their squad rank, as well as their solo rankings, were all Diamond level players.
Lee Gyeongbok had no idea such contestants were around, but the two of them knew.
"They're after Gyeongbok right now, aren't they?"
"Yeah. And since they know his location so precisely, looks like they're stream sniping, too."
"Wow, we really picked the right ones."
From the start, today's broadcast wasn't just about viewer participation, but was actually practice for responding to teaming and stream snipers.
In that sense, team 'Holycow' would make for excellent practice opponents for Lee Gyeongbok.
"A 4-on-1 skirmish against Diamond-rankers—if he wins, that's more than enough content for a video."
"For sure."
Neither of the friends even considered Lee Gyeongbok losing. Choi Byeonghun scrunched up his nose.
"...... I should just secure a backup editor in advance."
* * *
Lee Gyeongbok, driving the bus, felt a slight twitch around his eyes.
'An ambush?'
Within his sixth sense's detection range, four people appeared. But the sensations weren't unnerving or ominous.
It meant they weren't aiming to snipe him or win prize money—they were fans.
'Looks like I have some truly skilled fans, huh?'
But different from those he had met at school, these fans had finished looting in another area before coming to find him.
That meant they'd come thoroughly prepared.
"Now!"
Right then, a fan lying in wait in the distance revealed himself. At his shout, a teammate on the opposite side pushed caltrops onto the ground.
― What the heck?
― An ambush?
― How'd they know where he is?
― Stream sniping's allowed, remember lol
― They even brought spike traps ㄷㄷ
Spike traps are anti-vehicle items that blow out tires the moment they're run over, rendering the vehicle useless.
No matter how durable the school bus was, once the tires popped, it was nothing but a hunk of scrap metal.
― Oh crap, we're screwed;;
― Zero-to-hundred speed's way too fast here!
― Turn the wheel, all the way!
― Then the car'll flip, man!
It was too late to stop. Even hitting the brakes, inertia made the distance too short to avoid.
While the viewers panicked, Lee Gyeongbok hit the accelerator instead.
"Everyone, never forget—seatbelts are life-belts."
He even tossed out a casual comment and buckled up. As countless question marks flooded the chat window—
Screeeeech. The vehicle jolted and veered to the side. That was all thanks to Lee Gyeongbok quickly turning the wheel.
― Whoa whoa!
― It's gonna crash!
― Nooo, not like this!
As the viewers screamed, Lee Gyeongbok swiftly tossed a grenade out the window.
With a bang, the impact of the explosion flipped the bus over.
"What the...!?"
"This is nuts!"
The waiting Holycow teammates' eyes went wide. The bus had spun 360 degrees, leaping right over the spike trap.
― What the... did he just dodge it?!
― He literally did a suicide jump lmfao
― Perfect jump! Perfect jump! Perfect jump!
― Haha, if there's a trap, just go right over it.
― Getting caught in a trap isn't [Per][fect], after all.
― Lol only possible because it's a school bus.
If it hadn't been the most durable vehicle, the school bus, he would've blown up instantly. After a thud, the bus landed and immediately started reversing toward Holycow's team.
"Tada."
Sitting in the driver's seat, Lee Gyeongbok beamed as he raised his gun.
"Get in! Hurry!"
But the Holycow team weren't so stunned as to just stand there. Their own drivers, waiting nearby, rushed over and picked up their teammates.
"Oh, pretty quick."
Lee Gyeongbok was genuinely surprised.
He'd never encountered opponents who reacted this fast before.
― Wait, aren't they the Holycow team?
― OMG lol they're legit
― What, are they tryhards or something?
― You don't know the KGL university champions?
― They're all Diamond-tier lol
Some viewers recognized the Holycow team by the names trained on Lee Gyeongbok's muzzle.
Lee Gyeongbok, reading the chat, widened his eyes.
"Diamond rankers? Guess I'd better be a bit nervous. Maybe I'll lose?"
― There he goes again?
― Perfect deceit breath spotted!
― Is this the lose-to-win bluff?
― Ugh, it's actually annoying cuz we know he won't lose
― Lol even if the champion's granddad showed up, I'd still bet on him
― If it's the granddad, maybe he's weaker, actually lol
Meanwhile, holycow's team skillfully split into pairs and started chasing with two vehicles, flanking to aim for a crossfire.
Lee Gyeongbok held the steering wheel with one hand, pointing a pistol with the other.
"All right, one down."
As he pulled the trigger, a gunshot rang out and one team member jerked their head back.
[With a headshot from your 'D.eagle', 'Holycow_LastHit' has been knocked out.]
A notification appeared.
"So close."
It wasn't a kill message, though.
― LOL what the heck
― Reversing one-handed and headshotting the other?
― He's so damn stylish
-'I might lose' then instantly headshots, wth!
― Degl's a pistol but it still hurts
― That helmet saved them lol
Holycow's team didn't just stand still.
"Blow up the car!"
"Okay!"
Even though the school bus was tough, it had already taken damage from Lee Gyeongbok's earlier jump(?). Rather than target Lee Gyeongbok himself, they decided to blow up the vehicle.
― Lame, going for the car explosion?
― Lol can't they shoot into the driver's seat while moving?
― Godple could do it.
― Our viewers' eyes have gotten so much better lol
― Only Trsus with 'God's Eyes' remain now
― Damn, give us 'God's Skills' too!
The Holycow team immediately took action. Grenades and molotovs flew in from both sides.
Lee Gyeongbok scrunched his glabella, turned the wheel, and fired the trigger.
With two gunshots, the incoming explosives detonated mid-air. Because he'd already angled the car strategically, the damage was minimal.
― Damn! Insane!
― He's filming a movie again
― Action movie mode ON
― Even in movies it's staged
― But this is true action!
― Yeah, that's the [Per][fect] action for real.
"What in the world..."
"Damn! Seeing it in real life—it's crazy!"
"Godple! I'm a fan!"
Even Holycow's team joined in the adoration, causing Lee Gyeongbok to chuckle.
"This won't do! Guys!"
"Man, I wasn't going to pull this out, but!"
"It was prepped for Godple!"
But his laughter turned to disbelief as Holycow revealed their secret weapon.
― What the hell lol
― They actually brought the alabang here?
― The dark side of spawnable supply drops
― This is hilarious lol
It was the infamous RPG-7G rocket launcher, nicknamed 'alabang' by users.
If that hit, not even a school bus would survive. With that looming threat—
Lee Gyeongbok's sixth sense sharpened instantly. He read the movement of the three vehicles, the incoming wind, the stance and aim of the enemy holding the launcher.
All the gathered information began weaving together in his mind.
'This just might work...'
He clearly visualized the trajectory of the rocket in his senses. Lee Gyeongbok wasted no time: as soon as he decided, he acted.
He aimed his muzzle and pulled the trigger—not at the attacker, but at the bus window.
'Got it.'
Just as the glass shattered, the anti-tank rocket fired. The shell flew straight into the window already broken by Lee Gyeongbok's grenade.
And it sailed perfectly through the window he'd just shot, heading straight for another teammate's vehicle on the far side.
"Whoa, whoaaa!?"
A scream burst out, and the car went up in an explosion.
[Holycow_Average 》RPG-7G》 Holycow_FirstHit]
[Holycow_Average 》RPG-7G》 Holycow_LastHit]
Kill messages popped up in quick succession, leaving the rest of the team dumbfounded.
"What the heck!? Ugh!"
Lee Gyeongbok didn't miss the opening. His muzzle turned, aiming at the driver's head, and with a sharp scream, that player was knocked out too.
Without a driver, the car slammed into a boulder and exploded, setting off a chain reaction.
― Spoiler) Does this even make sense?
― Stop with the spoilers already.
― Lol Holycow just got totally wiped
― Holy crap, this is nuts!
― If he keeps this up, isn't this basically an insane asylum?
― Feels like I'll need to go out for lunch! I gotta go out for lunch!
― Trsus, please leave your rooms for once!
― Only Purple. Only Purple. Only Purple. Only Purple.
-[PerMan][Purplelelujah] (prayer emote)
― How can you not believe in miracles when you see this?
― Even Bollywood wouldn't film stuff like this!
― Well to be fair, bollywood is pretty stylish too
The chat window exploded.
Meanwhile, Lee Gyeongbok calmly brought the bus to a stop.
"Told you, right? Seatbelts are life-belts. This is what happens if you don't wear them—you get flung out."
He pointed at a teammate who'd been hurled from their car.
― Random PSA, omg lol
― From now on, I'll wear my seatbelt in an X-shape
― Yeah, now I'm even buckling the passenger seat
― Why'd you skip the passenger one, you nut lol
While the chat raged, Lee Gyeongbok looted the items of the fallen players.
"Kidding aside, these guys are seriously skilled. Thanks for the alabang, too."
― Stop mugging your subscribers!
― He's complimenting them because he's afraid we'll get mad if he just loots
― Perfect lip service is still perfect
-[Black Company] feature: pays in compliments instead of cash
― Evil, seriously evil...!
As the viewers teased him, Lee Gyeongbok grinned.
"If you don't want to give it up, just don't die, right?"
― Lol pulling out the facts at a time like this?
― Everyone knows, in online play, the first kill wins
― Godple's only 'cheat' is skill
― Whatever, it's still sneaky! Still sneaky!
While picking out the items he needed, Lee Gyeongbok's eye caught on one unique object.
"Emergency Recall?"
Reading the item description, a smile appeared at his lips.
* * *
The uptown area had plenty of tall buildings. This made it a popular camping spot for players with sniper rifles, settling on rooftops and going for kills. It was a core zone for either 'camping' or 'real estate' metas.
Players hoping to win the prize or snipe Purple also used these tactics.
On one such rooftop, five players were huddled together.
"Ugh, endless camping is boring."
"Should we go rack up some kills on others?"
"Nah, let's hold back. If we mess around and become everyone's enemy, it'll be a pain."
"We've got about ten minutes left—let's just wait a bit more."
"If I win the prize, what should I spend it on?"
They were stream snipers who'd gathered via an open chat group, using outside messages to track Purple's location.
"They're not gonna scam us, right?"
"If they do, they're screwed—the prize will come."
"You never know. People get greedy, you know."
"They could always just change their name and come back later."
"For real, only streamers should have to disclose their identity, right?"
"Honestly, no idea why they even hide their faces when making money so easily."
"Probably just want the money without taking any risks."
"It's always these types who get caught in a sponsorship scandal, upload an apology, then come back after six months like nothing happened."
"Yeah, that's because the law here is so weak."
They killed time gossiping, unjustly generalizing others' issues and justifying themselves.
Suddenly, their alerts started pinging in rapid succession.
"What the heck?"
"What's up?"
"Wait, hold up—why am I getting spammed with messages all of a sudden?"
The player managing comms frowned and opened his messages.
[〉Fighting a 4-man squad]
[〉What the hell?]
[〉Holy crap, won it]
[〉Looting items]
[〉Careful, they have alabang]
[〉Should take about ten to fifteen minutes]
[Read up to here.]
[〉Damn, emergency Recall]
[〉Boarding the plane now]
[〉Above!]
[〉Up above! Above!]
[〉Right above us!]
Emergency Recall was an item letting you summon the plane you entered on at the start of the game, letting you board and drop again anywhere on the map.
"Above? Wait, no way...!"
Reacting to the comms, the rest looked up.
"Huh?"
"What's up there?"
"Wait—what?"
In their eyes, a single dot grew in the clear sky among the clouds.
"...... That's...?"
"Are you kidding me!?"
"Wh-whoaaaa!?"
It wasn't a dot, but Lee Gyeongbok himself, plunging straight down. On his shoulder lay an imposing anti-tank rocket.
And then, the shell rained down right on them.
"Shoot! Fire, now!"
"Move!"
"Aaaargh!"
The previously united group scattered instantly.
Some grabbed their sniper rifles; some shrieked and darted around; some raced to the balcony. In every case, the outcome was the same.
BOOM—an explosion rocked the roof, and a player who'd made it to the edge was blasted off, plummeting to their death.
Amid the smoky clouds, Lee Gyeongbok touched down gently by parachute.
― Lolol, this is golden
― Did you know GunG had airstrikes?
― Never imagined an aerial bombardment in Gunner Ground
― There hasn't been a single non-legendary moment in today's broadcast
― Well, obviously. Godple IS the legend
― Is this just luck or cold hard truth?
― Honestly, it's fact
The viewers' reaction was clear. Lee Gyeongbok grinned as he scanned the bodies.
'Good thing the snipers were all bunched up here.'
This was why he'd targeted this spot.
With all the stream snipers here, his sixth sense had picked them up even more clearly.
But his sixth sense was still on alert. As he picked up a sniper rifle from one of the dead, he spoke.
"Stream snipers—I'm new to sniping, so give me some pointers, okay?"
Now, it was time for him to snipe the remaining stream snipers.
