Genius’s Godlike Game Broadcast-Chapter 58 : MetaGamer Live Interview (2)

Chapter 58

MetaGamer Live Interview (2)
MetaGamer influencer team.
As expected, er Shin Hyerim, who belongs to that team, had a keen interest in "influencers."
It wasn't just for work that she started paying attention. Even before landing a job as a er, she regularly watched Q-tubers and streamers' broadcasts.
You could say it was the so-called "dream job for a fan."
'This person is the real deal.'
Even for her, Purple was unique.
From the beginning, confidence is the base requirement for any broadcaster. Isn't it an indispensable quality if you're going to show yourself to countless people?
But even "confidence" comes in different textures.
'Most are just brazen, but...'
At first, they show off and laugh off their failures, which gets them mocked by viewers. Many streamers even make that their main content.
Some turn their persistence—repeatedly challenging themselves after failure, ultimately succeeding with the support of their viewers—into a drama for their content.
But Purple wasn't that type. She could see it as soon as she watched his broadcast.
'It's not a bluff—he really can do it.'
As his name suggests, he pursues and proves "perfection."
He easily pulls off things that are difficult for anyone else.
Shin Hyerim knew the label for people like that.
'A true genius.'
Just thinking so made her heart beat faster. Was she attracted to Purple romantically?
No, it wasn't that kind of feeling.
'That I get to be the very first to interview someone like him...!'
And it wasn't just any interview, it was an "exclusive."
For a er, "first" and "exclusive" were like badges of honor.
'Master sergeant, thank you!'
She silently thanked the master sergeant who gave her this precious opportunity and began the interview.
As for the streamer Purple—
"No matter how many more times we meet in the future, I'll be the one who wins."
He was an even more spirited figure than she had expected.
"Ex-excuse me! Purple-nim?"
"Yes?"
"This... you know that since this is live, we have to run it exactly as is in the article, right?"
Normally, interviews go through editing before being published as articles. That way, if either side made some "mistake," it could be fixed.
But things were different now.
Because this interview was being conducted live via streaming, even the smallest difference in wording in the article could cause problems. His last remarks, too, would be printed word for word.
Rooting for him as a fan, Shin Hyerim hoped Purple would choose his words carefully.
Purple, Lee Gyeongbok, responded with a smile.
"Of course. That's exactly why we're doing this live."
"Pardon?"
"It's better for both sides if there aren't any misunderstandings—clean live. Isn't that nice?"
With Lee Gyeongbok's comment, the chat window was fired up again.
- Ah, lol, making mistakes isn't [PER][FECT].
- Can't pass up the raw, unedited version!
- Prevention of demon's edit, I'm dying, lol.
- MetaGamer never does that kind of thing, lolol.
- Media and cyber lecca love it ^^
- ???: Welcome, first time at a [PER][FECT] interview?
Shin Hyerim blankly stared at him for a moment. Seeing the confidence she'd only encountered through video right in front of her left her momentarily stunned.
But she was a pro, too.
"As expected! I hope this interview inspires other influencers to go live as well. Now, let's formally begin the questions!"
She quickly regained composure and continued the interview with a smile.
"I think this is what most viewers are curious about: Before you started broadcasting, what kind of person were you, Purple-nim? Please introduce yourself briefly!"
― Oooooooh!
-55555555!
― I'm really curious about this, lol.
― If you look at his physical, he must be an NIS agent.
― Why is the NIS coming up, lol.
― He did boxing. Wasn't he a pro?
― The Asian fire-chicken fist, Purple!
― What's the fire-chicken now, lol.
-??? : Never disrespect the land of fire-chicken again.
― Ah, these guys don't get it, lol. He was obviously a Hokage.
― Feels like he worked for a PMC.
Speculation poured in alongside the question. Yet not a single guess was correct.
Lee Gyeongbok just found the viewers' imaginations adorably amusing.
"Everyone is expecting a lot, but unfortunately I was just an ordinary office worker."
This answer triggered a tide of question marks in the chat window.
― Ordinary?
-5252! What's the average office worker standard?
― Viewers don't even work, so they don't know!
― What's a normal office worker Purple? Like a discharged all-girls high-schooler?
-[Fact] High-school girl combat power = 2 special forces soldiers has been verified already.
― Ah, lol, just a disguised NIS agent.
― He quit boxing and got a job, lol.
― It's the two-job era—Hokage works, too ^^
― Viewers' group prepayment is hilarious, lolol.
Nobody seemed to believe him. Shin Hyerim was one of them.
"Really? You're saying you just worked at a company?"
"Yes. If I go into more detail, my company might find out, so I'd rather not say more."
Lee Gyeongbok said so, then looked about for a second and added one more thing.
"Actually, things didn't end so well at my previous workplace. If it becomes too specific, it might cause trouble for both sides."
-mnm?
― No way Godple got fired?
― Could Godple really be fired? The company must've been the problem, lol.
― Right, lol. Did the company try to pin something on him and got it flipped back?
― That company has no eye for talent, lol.
― That company is doomed now, lol.
― Right, lol, it was a divine workplace.
― Ah, lol, god working at God's job.
― Thankful the company made Godple start broadcasting.
Shin Hyerim glanced at the chat window. If left unchecked, she worried the speculation would get out of control, so she quickly moved on to the next question.
"Understood. After quitting your job, was there a particular reason you decided to become a streamer?"
"I started broadcasting at the recommendation of a friend who's now my editor. I've mentioned this on my stream, but when I was in high school, I was preparing to be a pro gamer."
― Prepared to be a pro? For real?
― If Purple says it, it's real, lol.
― Not just one, but offers from three places!
― Wow, lol, he was different from the start.
― Love you, editor-nim!
― Editor ended up getting exploited by Black Company ㅠㅠㅠ
-??? : If only I hadn't recommended you!
-??? : STAY! STAY!
Many long-time fans already knew, but many new viewers were curious as well.
"Ah, yes! I saw this, too. TierOne, dandy and even the Giwon Diamond team. Even now, those are strong teams!"
"Yes, but unfortunately, I didn't make it in. I had a weak constitution at the time and got sick often. Even during tests, I got sick and couldn't pass."
In reality, it was due to the backlash from spiritual energy, but he couldn't share that detail.
― Weak?
― Godple and weak just don't fit together.
― Don't get sick, man ㅠㅠ
― Please keep streaming for a long time ㅠㅠㅠ
― Imagining bearded viewers worrying makes me dizzy
― But now he's way past just healthy, lol.
Lee Gyeongbok looked at the chat, smiled, and nodded.
"It's actually why I kept working out. Thanks to that, I'm fine now."
"That's really a relief. The mood's gotten a bit gloomy, so I'll ask another question. What kind of games do you like? Do you prefer FPS?"
Thanks to Shin Hyerim's timely change of topic, the chat's mood changed instantly.
― Still, it's gotta be MOBA, right?
― Yeah, lol, if he prepped to go pro.
― No, no. Liking something and being good at it are different.
― Godple is good at everything!
― Oh, true, haha, sorry;;
― Please say you like RPGs too ㅠ
― Have you thought about trying racing games?!
― Could secretly be a rhythm gamer?
― He might be a dual addict.
Trying not to show his amusement, Lee Gyeongbok waved his hands.
"No, that's not the case. As those who've checked my account history know, I've only just recently gotten into virtual reality games."
"Ah, yes, right. You said you first tried them when you started streaming."
"Yes. So my experience is stuck in the PC and console era. That's why every VR game now feels fresh and fun to me."
― Right, lol. The shock when he first got into a capsule.
― Ah, lol, that was really the singularity.
― It's gotten way better compared to the prototype.
― Prototype, lol, boomer vibes.
― Purple calling himself a VR newbie is hard to believe.
― Wow, another dose of cognitive dissonance.
― So is this the 'max-level newbie' thing?
Viewers found themselves relating, recalling their own first VR experiences. Lee Gyeongbok laughed at the reactions and commented.
"So, for now, I don't want to focus on just one genre but try lots of games. If you have any fun recommendations, please let me know."
That answer reignited the chat.
― Then try out LOA once!
― LOA is fun!
― LOA-ers coming in fast!
― With Godple's physical, he'd destroy even Motor Horizon, lol.
― Right, lol, he was an insane driver even in GunG.
― Do you know King's Stone? It's super fun.
― Isn't that a battleground emulator?
― Dolkriters were lying in wait, lol.
― Let's do a duel to decide what game!
― Get out, duel addict!
― The consensus is to go through GOTY games first.
Overwhelmed by the barrage of messages, Shin Hyerim laughed awkwardly and waved her hand.
"No, please, let's save the recommendations for later. Questions! You're supposed to ask questions, viewers!"
"Yes—please suggest games later. And actually, I'd appreciate it if you recommend hard games."
Lee Gyeongbok's added comment had an immediate effect. Instead, a wave of question marks filled the chat.
"I've only played easy games so far. I'm looking for something a bit more challenging, to spark my desire to compete..."
― That's only easy for YOU!
― No way; Bark is hard enough that the devs did a patch!
― Purple/personality/controversy
― There he goes with the deception-breath again?
― Again with the deception breath, lololol.
― Crazy, lol, is all this going in the article?
― Lol, what's with the widespread deception breath!
― It's always fresh! It's electrifying! Purple Deceiver is the best!
― Purcain, it's Purcain.
― Purcain, lol, what is that now, lol.
― Breaking news: Police concerned over increased drug s. "No countermeasures for 'Purcain'."
― Insane, lol. Viewers come up with jokes so fast!
Even Shin Hyerim, who'd been checking the chat from time to time, couldn't hold back her laughter.
"Pfft..."
"Our Purple-viewers' jokes are really on point, right?"
Lee Gyeongbok said proudly. The chat erupted again.
― Purple-viewer?!
― Godple called us!
-5252! We're [PER][FECT] too?!
― Us? Us? Why is he so sweet!
― Ah, lol, we got sucked in instantly!
― We may be bad at games, but our jokes cut deep!
― Seriously, we're monsters! He's trying to make us obsessed!
― No, lol, maybe it's just easy for viewers?
― Student, read the room^^
― Is there a streamer who wins hearts with just a word?
― Is he some kind of Persanova, lol?
― What's Persanova this time, lol.
― Viewers' thirst for jokes is wild, lol.
As the chat crossed over from affection to mania, Shin Hyerim hastily moved on to the next question.
"Ahem, then—next question. Is there anything in particular that you found difficult during your broadcasts?"
"Difficult things..."
Lee Gyeongbok's eyebrows lifted slightly. But soon, his expression returned to a relaxed smile.
"I think I'm pretty lucky."
"Lucky?"
"Yes. My editor, and my current manager, I have good friends so I haven't had any major difficulties."
And that really was the case.
Lee Gyeongbok had kept his distance from anyone ominous, so even if the circle was small, only good people remained around him.
"Sometimes troublemakers show up in the chat, but thanks to my friends—and to my Purple-viewers—I've never been in a real bind."
The chat grew warm at his comment.
― Are all you lurking Sagwadan watching?
― Trolls, get lost!
― Right, lol, we have to protect our Purple, lol.
― If you mess with little Purple, you're toast!
― This is [PER][FECT], lol.
― Ah, lol, today's interview is determined to be [PER][FECT]!
― Purple is a baby. We'll protect him!
― But the baby is too big, though?
― Anyway, fresh streamer ^^
― Please open up support... I can't take it...!
― My wallet wants to give you money!
― Does Purple know the joy of viewer donations?
― Then do it on the MetaGamer channel!
― No, lol, it only matters if Godple sees it, lol.
Touched by the affectionate chat, Shin Hyerim felt her own heart soften. She wanted to keep watching but had to continue since the interview time was limited.
"I can really see why everyone loves Purple-nim. So, let's check out some of those endearing viewer questions, shall we?"
At her request, the screen in the studio changed.
[1st Place ??? – 2468 times]
A number appeared next to the concealed question. Shin Hyerim added an immediate explanation.
"The order is from the most frequently asked, overlapping questions. Let's reveal it!"
At her shout, the hidden question was revealed with a tape-tearing sound effect.
[What color is your underwear today?]
A brief silence fell over them.
― No way, lololol.
― Why are there so many underwear-maniacs in here!
― I'm embarrassed for us, lolol.
― Hey! Is this a joke interview?!
― Just do demon's edit!
― I thought this would be automatically filtered, lol.
― Seriously, lol, going totally real, lolol.
― Ah, do you not realize? This is a true [PER][FECT] heartfelt question!
― If you're a Purple-viewer, this is basic.
― Don't be proud of that! You lunatics, lololol.
Even the viewers who asked the question were embarrassed, but Lee Gyeongbok was calm.
"Today, it's ordinary navy. Should've worn red, maybe?"
When the chat filled up with 'ㅗㅜㅑ's, Lee Gyeongbok laughed and waved his hand.
"Obviously, I'm just joking."
"Ah, okay. N-next question!"
Instead, an embarrassed Shin Hyerim quickly moved on, not daring to imagine what other viewer questions might be like.
'As long as there's no broadcast accident...!'
She prayed silently.
* * *
Most top-ranking questions were light in nature. Lee Gyeongbok answered them all smoothly, like a speed quiz.
[Do you have a girlfriend?]
"No."
[Jajang or Jjamppong?]
"If I have to choose, jajang."
[Pour sauce or dip?]
"Pour when I'm alone, dip when I'm with others."
[Mint chocolate, yay or nay?]
"I think toothpaste is fine only while brushing my teeth."
A slightly more serious question came next.
[Can you reveal your real face?]
This was the first time Lee Gyeongbok didn't answer right away, rolling his eyes instead.
'Of course, here it is.'
He'd expected this question ever since he agreed to the interview—especially with it being live.
"If you don't want to answer, we can move on..." began Shin Hyerim, perhaps thinking his hesitation meant discomfort. But Lee Gyeongbok waved it off with a smile.
"No, not at all. It's an important question, and relevant for this interview."
He turned his gaze back toward the camera.
"To answer directly, yes, I will reveal my face."
― Wow!
― True story?
― Legend!
― You mean right now!?
― Crazy, crazy.
As viewers exploded in the chat, Lee Gyeongbok shook his head.
"Not immediately. But as a streamer, I'll have to show my face at some point. I'd like to do outdoor broadcasts in the future and also meet you all in person someday."
― Ah, I thought he was about to do it now...
― Too bad ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
― Ah, it's been less than a month, why are the viewers in such a rush?!
― But he said he'll do outdoor broadcasts and fan meetups.
― I just hope he streams for a long time.
― Godple, just do whatever you want!
Reactions varied, but everyone recognized showing your face wasn't easy, and accepted it.
"As you know, looks are a major source of prejudice. I want to reach you as Purple the streamer a bit longer, first."
― True that.
― Looks are a skill, too!
― Undeniable fact ㅠ
― No one faces more prejudice than viewers...
― As if "I'm not like that," lol
― Enough about appearance!
The viewers didn't drag out the conversation, knowing many streamers had complexes about their appearance and didn't reveal their faces.
Thus, they presumed Purple had such a complex, too.
'If they like you for looks alone, the relationship won't last anyway.'
In fact, Lee Gyeongbok thought so due to experiences with classmates who'd only approached him for his looks in school days.
He unknowingly deceived the viewers again—but neither he nor they realized it.
"Okay, then, next question please."
By then, Shin Hyerim was quickly proceeding. With the viewer questions done, she had to finish the remainder of the interview.
[Will you do a collaboration stream with Bald Mountain-nim?]
"Ah, that's basically answered already. I turned it down because I'm not planning any real-life content yet."
-lol, he really got contacted.
― I knew it as soon as he poked his head into the Purple channel, lol.
― Ah, lol, he shines so much you can't pretend not to notice.
― Stop teasing Bald Mountain!
― That's hair-shaming, you know.
The atmosphere quickly lightened again. Lee Gyeongbok continued answering the rest of the questions with a laugh.
By the time the duplicated questions dropped below ten...
"Ah, due to time, questions that were asked fewer than ten times will have to be skipped, sorry!"
Shin Hyerim nicely wrapped up the viewer questions segment.
― Right, lol, single-digit questions are probably all weird stuff anyway.
― That'd be so many questions, anyway, lol.
― Just knowing the underwear color is enough.
― The underwear maniacs have achieved Nirvana, lol.
― er-nim needs to go home too!
― There's no such thing at [Black Company]
― No way; did er-nim just get absorbed into Godple's company?
― Ah, lol, appear on air and you're in [Black Company]'s clutches.
The chat's reaction was pretty good. As the rest of the question count whittled down—
[Please publicly clarify you're not using a boosted (proxy) account!]
A question appeared that caught everyone's attention.
― What's this, that's intense.
― Isn't that the Sagwadan guys lurking?
― Are the viewers who asked this getting doxxed?
― No, there's no way it's them with only that few asking.
― I asked it, too. Feels like it needs to be settled properly here.
― Ah, lol, if it's like that, fair enough.
― Right, lol. If you openly clarify here, sagwadan can't say anything after.
Lee Gyeongbok looked at Shin Hyerim.
"I expected this question, er-nim?"
"Yes. Since this has been a hot issue, we actually finished investigating it ourselves beforehand."
A wave of question marks rose in the chat. Documents verifying the account info appeared on the screen.
"As you can see, the account Purple uses is a 'regular' account. Not a 'VIP' account, which is the only one allowing multi-IDs."
Verification was simple enough.
Anyone wanting to boost or buy an account needed a multi-ID, and the only accounts with that feature were 'VIP' level.
― Meta suppression field: activated!
― Ah, lol, silencing all the fake-accusation parrots, huh!
― Right, lol. If Godple had shown the evidence alone, they'd have called it fake for sure.
― Thanks, sagwadan!
To viewers, metaGamer's "certification" was much more meaningful than the document itself.
Any document shown by a streamer alone could always be picked apart, but if MetaGamer verified it, that was a different story.
― Back when the multi-ID controversy happened, metaGamer verified everything, lol.
― They even camped at Reality and wrote articles, too.
― No wonder they're #1.
― They're nothing like media who just regurgitate press releases from game companies.
It was MetaGamer who had first exposed NewtonLord's "proxy" allegations and dug into the truth, thus had the highest credibility among game webzines.
"We confirmed this in advance with cooperation from Purple-nim and verified with Reality. Remember, metaGamer doesn't just interview anybody!"
"Besides, if you're going to use a boosted account, what's the point of playing the game? It's not even fun."
Shin Hyerim drove the point home, and Lee Gyeongbok hammered it down even harder. Viewers were satisfied.
― Can you catch Purple-confidence, too?
― What is it? Give me Purple-confidence!
― I'm going to live boldly like Godple!
― Weren't viewers already bold, holed up in their rooms?
― That's harsh, language-wise!
― True words, lolol.
― Boosters, why do they even play?
― Say what needs to be said! Perfect-cola!
― Omg! Is this a carbonated interview?!
With that pleasant mood, the rest of the questions finished up.
"Alright, we've taken all the viewer questions. And now..."
Shin Hyerim went to move on, when she suddenly widened her eyes and shifted her gaze.
Lee Gyeongbok wondered what was going on as he looked at her. With an awkward expression, she spoke up.
"Ah, Purple-nim. We just got a donation on our channel."
"A donation?"
"Yes. It's quite a large amount, so I was worried it might cause issues if we just skipped it. And..."
The interview was being broadcast on both Purple's channel and the MetaGamer channel via the "linked" function on the Tri platform.
To avoid interruptions, Purple had blocked donations, but MetaGamer's channel still had them enabled.
"Uh, and—though I'm not sure if it's really them—the donor's account name is NewtonLord."
"NewtonLord?"
Lee Gyeongbok was surprised, but then nodded. Soon after, a donation alert went off.
['NewtonLord' has donated 1,000,000 won.]
[Purple channel blocked donations, but here is fine, right?]
['NewtonLord' has donated 1,000,000 won.]
[No matter how much I review, there's something I can't understand.]
['NewtonLord' has donated 1,000,000 won.]
[I want to hear it directly from you. Can't this count as a question?]
['NewtonLord' has donated 1,000,000 won.]
[Of course, I'm not asking for free.]
['NewtonLord' has donated 1,000,000 won.]
[Five million won. I'll ask by donation video.]
As the string of donations rolled in, the chat window went wild.
― Really NewtonLord?
― This is nuts, is it real?
― He just spent 5 million on a question?!
― That's serious.
― Even if it's fake, it's real at that amount.
― What the hell does that mean, lolol.
― Has he been watching the interview the whole time? lolol.
― Must be surveilling to find a weak point!
― His persistence is scary;;;
Seeing the reactions, Lee Gyeongbok smiled.
'He's making content for me himself.'
There was no reason to refuse.
