Chapter 270: Ch 270 : You Look Beautiful
"Why is your face so red?"
Sunny frowned, his voice laced with genuine confusion. He leaned forward. Before Nyx could react, he raised a hand and placed the back of his gloved fingers gently against her forehead.
"You are warm," he noted. "Do you have a fever?"
Nyx froze. The touch of his hand was cool, a stark contrast to the heat spreading across her cheeks.
Her heart hammered against her ribs so hard she feared it might crack her ribs.
"I am alright, W-what did y-you mean by... the idea of L-love?" she stammered, her mind still reeling from his earlier statement about a ’reward.’
Sunny pulled his hand back, satisfied that she wasn’t sick.
"Oh, that," he replied casually, as if discussing the weather. "I was talking about the proposal you presented at the inauguration of the City. The Avatar Protocol. The concept of letting Gods visit the mortal world to find genuine connection. That was your idea, was it not?"
Nyx’s soul plummeted. The romantic balloon that had inflated in her chest popped.
’Of course,’ she thought, a mix of disappointment and laughter bubbling up. ’It’s business. It’s always business.’
"Right," she whispered. "That idea."
"Since we need to discuss the implementation details," Sunny said, waving his hand, "we might as well be comfortable."
His Manifestation Affinity flared silently. The empty space of the throne room rippled. From his ambient mana, a table materialized between them.
It was an elegant, round table draped in velvet as dark as the void. Two high-backed chairs appeared, cushioned in silver silk.
And then, with a snap of his fingers, a floating candle stand drifted down, hovering in the center.
The candles burned with a the soft light similar to stars, casting a soft, romantic glow over the meeting table.
Nyx stared at the setup. The night sky above. The dim lighting. The private table for two. And the Emperor of the Gods standing there, pulling out a chair for her.
’It’s a date,’ she realized, her heart restarting its frantic rhythm. ’It’s a completely accidental, business oriented meeting... that looks exactly like a perfect date.’
She sat down, her movements stiff. Sunny took the seat opposite her. The silence stretched, heavy with unsaid things and the crackle of starlight.
Nyx looked at him. She looked at the mask that covered his face, the swirling cosmic pattern that shifted like a galaxy in motion.
It was terrifying to the multiverse, a symbol of absolute authority. But to her, right now, it was a barrier.
"Your Majesty," she asked softly, the question slipping out before she could stop it. "Why do you wear that mask every time? And that robe, too?"
Sunny paused. He touched the edge of his mask.
It wasn’t a new question. The Gods always thought that something was amiss with their emperor, they thought he was insecure about his face.
But after the broadcasted battle with Edgar, where his mask had slipped, the truth had leaked. He wasn’t a ugly monster.
He was... human. Beautiful, even. Like a prince who had walked out of a fairy tale written by the stars themselves.
"I don’t know, actually," Sunny admitted, his voice dropping to a more contemplative tone.
He leaned back, staring into the flame of the candle. "At first, I used it to hide. I was... introverted. I thought that if the lifeforms saw a nervous, shut-in human as their God, they would lose faith. They needed a symbol, not a person."
He traced the rim of his wine glass, "But later... it just became a habit. It became a second skin. With this mask and robe on, I feel... secure. It gives me the feeling that I am back in my room on Endor, covered by safe walls, hidden from the judgment of the world. It allows Cosmos to exist, while real me stays safe inside."
It was a confession. A vulnerable admission from a being who could erase solar systems with a thought.
For a few seconds, Nyx didn’t say anything. Her eyes shimmered, reflecting the candlelight.
She felt a surge of emotion that wasn’t lust or admiration, but a deep tenderness.
He was the strongest being alive, yet he was still that boy in his room, hiding from the world.
Suddenly, she stood up.
Sunny watched with interest as she walked around the table. She moved with the grace of the night itself, silent and fluid, until she stood directly behind his chair.
"I feel envious," she whispered, her hands hovering over his shoulders. "They call me the Goddess of Night... but your hair... it feels like the moonlight"
She reached out and touched his hood. Gently, she pulled it down.
The fabric fell away, and Sunny’s hair cascaded out. It was white, not the white of age, but the white of a moonlight. It spilled over his shoulders, glowing faintly in the dim room.
"Oh my God," Nyx breathed, her fingers threading through the strands. "They are so... silky. It flows like liquid. What kind of conditioner do you use?"
She didn’t wait for an answer. Her hands moved to the sides of his face. She found the clasps of the cosmic mask.
Sunny didn’t stop her. He sat perfectly still, trusting her.
"I think you consider me your friend," Nyx said, her voice trembling slightly near his ear. "Since you shared this secret with me... then there shouldn’t be a mask between two friends."
Click.
The mask detached. She pulled it away gently, revealing the face beneath.
Nyx stared for a moment, engraving the image into her soul, then walked slowly back to her seat. She kept her eyes closed as she sat down, taking a deep breath to steady herself.
When she opened them, the impact hit her all over again.
Sunny sat there, unmasked. His features were sharp, regal and perfect. His skin was flawless, matching with the dark robe, and his eyes... his eyes were deep pools of violet and gold, holding the same suppressing power as the swirling eyes of the mask.
Nyx’s face flushed a shade of red that made the ruby heart on the table look dull.
"You look... handsome," she murmured, her hand instinctively coming up to wipe the corner of her mouth, just in case she was actually drooling.
Sunny touched his own cheek, feeling the cool air of the throne room against his skin for the first time in a while.
"I was never like this, to be honest," he said, a hint of melancholy in his smile. "My appearance changed slowly after becoming a God. I remember having black hair. I remember being having white skin."
But now? His hair was moonlight. His skin reflected the cold purity of space. He looked less like a human and more like an avatar of the void.
"Mmm," Nyx hummed, unable to tear her eyes away. "The Strategist theorized that as Faith increases, the physical form evolves to match the perception of the believers. They see you as perfect... so you become perfect."
Sunny nodded, accepting her explanation, though he knew the truth was likely deeper in his case.
It wasn’t just Faith. It was his lineage. He was Void-born. He was connected to Lady Sansa, the cosmic entity that birthed multiverses.
He remembered the sensation of the Giant Hand caressing his face in the past. Was he evolving into a Cosmic Titan? Would he eventually lose his humanity entirely?
He shook his head, dispelling the dread. He looked at Nyx. Bathed in the soft light of the candles, with her flushed cheeks and sparkling eyes, she was breathtaking.
"You are also becoming more and more beautiful with each passing day, Nyx," he said honestly.
The casual compliment hit Nyx like a nuke. An avalanche of butterflies erupted in her stomach.
She gripped the edge of the table, trying to maintain her composure, but her face burned hotter.
’He doesn’t even know what he’s doing! He just says these things!’
She needed to change the subject before she passed out. She looked at the necklace lying on the table, the Seed of Love.
Her face twitched as the reality of the business proposal came rushing back.
"How... how does this necklace achieve the goal?" she asked, her voice slightly strained as she fought down her frustration.
"Isn’t the cost of intervening in the mortal world too high? I thought direct possession was impossible without burning the host... so I forgot about it."
"Nothing is impossible," Sunny replied, picking up the necklace. The silver chain dangled from his fingers, the pink heart spinning slowly. "Not if you put your mind and soul into it."
Nyx looked at the necklace, then at him. A spark of defiance lit up in her eyes.
"You said nothing is impossible," she challenged, leaning forward. "Then... why don’t you put that necklace on me yourself?"
She tilted her chin up, exposing her elegant neck. "I think that would be easy if you put your soul and love into it... I mean, your mind into it."
Sunny blinked. His lips twitched. He realized, too late, that he had walked right into that one.
He had preached about overcoming impossibility, so refusing a simple request would make him look like a hypocrite. And Sunny was many things, but he was not a man who went back on his word.
"I never said I couldn’t do it," he said evenly.
He stood up, the chair scraping softly against the floor. He walked around the table, the heavy fabric of his robe rustling.
Nyx held her breath as he stepped behind her. She could feel his presence, the radiant heat of his body.
Sunny gathered her hair, sweeping it gently to one side. His fingers brushed against the nape of her neck, sending electric shocks down her spine.
He lowered the necklace. The cool metal of the adamantine chain settled against her skin, followed by the weight of the heart pendant resting just above her collarbone.
As he fumbled with the clasp, his eyes caught the color of her gown. It was a soft, flowing pink silk.
"You sure came prepared," Sunny chuckled softly, his breath tickling her ear. "The heart matches your dress perfectly."
Click.
The lock engaged. The artifact hummed to life, binding to her aura.
Sunny slowly walked back to his seat. He sat down and closed his eyes for a second, composing himself.
When he opened them, he looked at her, wearing his creation, her face framed by the candlelight, the pink heart glowing against her skin.
"It suits you," he said softly. "You look beautiful."
