Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator-Chapter 100: Fish-Headed Man

Chapter 100

Lin Ye realized he had been a bit presumptuous.
Just because the structure ahead was the same as the surface layer of the maze didn’t mean it would stay the same later on.
The two entered the corridor through the red double doors opposite them, but at the end of the corridor, it was no longer the familiar red hallway and rooms Lin Ye knew. Instead, it was a red area that looked much more like a maze.
The irregularly segmented red walls divided the space. Just standing at the entrance gave off an intimidating and disorienting feeling. From deep within the maze, faint footsteps and low murmurs could be heard.
“Wow, is this the legendary Red Maze? I’ve heard of this place.”
Ayla said excitedly.
“This is the deep layer of the maze. It will be safer going further in. It’s my first time here too. Let me confirm again—you don’t mind if you die, right?”
Lin Ye was not planning to retreat. Sooner or later, he had to explore this area. This time he had a special life-saving skill and a teammate who didn’t mind dying.
“Yes, so you don’t need to worry about me. Besides, I can fight.”
Ayla said seriously.
“That’s great.”
Lin Ye was the first to step into the maze.
The maze was very complicated. Every few steps, there were several branching paths, and because the passages varied in length and mental energy could not penetrate walls, it was easy to get the layout wrong and eventually get completely lost inside.
If it weren’t for the countdown timer allowing a return to the shelter, Lin Ye wouldn’t dare enter such a place recklessly.
Many mutated creatures wandered the maze. Soon, they encountered a first-rank blood-corpse.
Lin Ye casually stabbed it from behind, piercing its mutation organ directly.
“Ah, sorry! Do you want to practice some combat techniques?”
Lin Ye skillfully collected the mutation organ and gathered some useful materials.
“Can I? What move did you just use? Can I learn it?”
Ayla thought Lin Ye was so cool. He just glanced at the blood-corpse and killed it.
“This move isn’t a combat technique; it’s a method to train spiritual energy. It’s fine for killing small monsters, but it won’t work against stronger enemies.”
Lin Ye briefly explained how to use the spiritual energy blade for a backstab. Its principle was very simple; the difficulty lay in controlling spiritual energy and runes.
“You were originally a scholar proficient in rune knowledge. I also studied runes for a while, but unfortunately, my rune talent is average.”
Ayla said regretfully.
“Don’t you use runes in your battles?”
Lin Ye was curious about combat methods in other realms.
“We separate rune knowledge and combat into two fields. Scholars learn rune knowledge and craft rune items. Warriors practice combat skills and use rune items in battle. After all, very few people can master rune knowledge. Of course, there are talents like you who excel in both fields. Such talents are even rarer, but every one of them becomes a pillar of the empire.”
Ayla began explaining the empire’s combat system to Lin Ye. The empire’s research into mental energy, spiritual energy, and runes was quite profound. Many of their viewpoints gave Lin Ye new inspirations.
The two happily exchanged ideas inside the maze. Lin Ye would casually deal with mutated creatures they met while explaining his understanding of combat to Ayla.
“I believe combat has two aspects: information and strength, with information being slightly more important.”
“If you know all the information about the enemy, you can strike first and deal with them in the fastest, sneakiest way.”
“If you don’t know the enemy’s information but are much stronger, you still have to strike first, fighting for a slim chance.”
“If you don’t know the enemy’s information and are close in strength, you can slowly probe the enemy’s info, or even strike later, waiting for the enemy to expose a weakness.”
Lin Ye explained while using the blood-corpse as an example. There were many oddly shaped blood-corpses in the maze, some even fish-like with four limbs.
These fish creatures would spray high-pressure red liquid from their mouths, which was quite dangerous.
Lin Ye collected some fish corpses through the spiritual energy shield, planning to check the system information on the red liquid back at the shelter.
They continued deeper. The further they went, the more fish-type mutated creatures appeared. At the end of a passage, they found a huge stagnant water area.
This stagnant water area looked like a red swimming pool. On a platform across the water was a dark red metal treasure chest. The chest’s color was deeper than any Lin Ye had opened before.
“There’s a chest over there. Want to check it out?”
Ayla pointed across and asked.
“I’ll try.”
Lin Ye tossed some materials he had collected earlier into the stagnant water. Some mutated fish jumped out of the water and swallowed the mutated materials.
“Forget it. It feels too risky.”
Lin Ye had considered using his special skill to rush through the stagnant water, but mental energy couldn’t detect inside it. If some monster was hiding in the water, the snail shell skill might get dragged into the depths. There was still some time before the event ended, and if the snail shell broke, he wouldn’t survive long.
He could try to time it with the event’s end, but Lin Ye couldn’t be sure how long the snail shell would hold underwater, so it was risky.
“Let’s go then.”
Ayla wasn’t really interested in the chest. She wasn’t lacking spiritual energy items at all.
Lin Ye turned to leave but found a humanoid mutated creature with a fish head standing in the passage.
The opponent seemed to have some kind of stealth ability. Lin Ye had no idea when it got close.
Lin Ye drew his Spiritual Energy Rifle and emptied a magazine at the fish-headed man.
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang…
The bullets were blocked by the spiritual energy shield in front of the fish-headed man. It was a second-rank mutated creature with strong spiritual energy fluctuations inside.
After emptying a magazine, Lin Ye suddenly felt a chill down his back. He hurriedly activated the mutated spiritual energy shield on his Nightfall Formalwear and dodged to the side.
A sharp tentacle pierced through the mutated spiritual energy shield, but the slowed tentacle only tore the sleeve of the formalwear and failed to hurt Lin Ye. The tentacle’s source was in the stagnant water area.
The fish-headed man drew two bone spikes and charged at Lin Ye, while several sharp tentacles behind it prepared to strike.
“I’ll handle this side.”
Ayla drew a staff, and an unusually sturdy spiritual energy shield instantly formed behind them.
Activating all the runes on his Nightfall Formalwear, Lin Ye instantly appeared beside the fish-headed man.
A flash of red light passed, shattering the fish-headed man’s spiritual energy shield. Lin Ye pulled out his CL0 Pistol with his left hand and fired at the fish head.
Bang!
The bullet shattered the fish head, but the fish-headed man didn’t stop. Two bone spikes continued stabbing at Lin Ye’s vital points.
It had two mutation organs but only concealed one.
Lin Ye struggled to block the bone spikes with several layers of spiritual energy shield. He sensed the energy flow inside the opponent’s body and calculated the mutation organ’s location.
