Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator-Chapter 62: Surging Waves

Chapter 62

The moment the spiritual energy shield disappeared, the true war officially began.
Countless spike-shelled bugs surged through the defensive line like a tidal wave. Lin Ye dodged a barbed forelimb and sliced apart an approaching bug with Red Blade, only for another to immediately charge at him.
In the distance, swarms of acid-spitting flyers sprayed corrosive liquid across the battlefield, showing no concern for their own kind.
The ground trembled as subterranean mawed worms emerged, their gaping mouths several meters wide and lined with rows of jagged teeth, devouring people whole.
Lin Ye activated his Nightfall Formalwear as a mutated spiritual energy shield enveloped his body, blocking all unavoidable attacks.
Initially, he used mental energy to track attacks from every direction, attempting evasive maneuvers. But he soon abandoned this inefficient method in favor of sensing nearby energy intensities.
As long as the spiritual energy intensity didn't exceed a certain threshold, he ignored the attacks - they couldn't penetrate his enhanced shield anyway.
Even if some bizarre low-energy high-intensity attack appeared, he still had the teddy bear contingency. In extreme cases, reality simulation could instantly return him to the shelter.
So Lin Ye entrusted defense entirely to Nightfall Formalwear while using speed runes on his pants to dart across the battlefield. If he moved fast enough, attacks couldn't touch him.
Red Blade glowed crimson at maximum output, its luminous trail elongating and contracting with Lin Ye's movements. Wherever the red light passed, insect corpses piled up.
Nearby allies gaped in astonishment, unaware when such a fierce fighter had appeared among them.
"...Is he really a foreigner? He doesn't seem to have reached first rank yet."
"Even foreigners have their elites. Might be a civilian genius assigned here because nobody recognized his talent."
"Such a waste. If he'd entered the Imperial Academy, the Empire could've gained another high-rank powerhouse."
"Pointless talk now. Orders are to hold this position as long as possible. Desertion means execution anyway."
"True, but still feels like a shame."
As the subject of discussion, Lin Ye had no time for others' opinions - he was busy harvesting kills.
With abundant spiritual energy, Lin Ye fought without worrying about depletion. As long as his stamina and mental energy held, he could dominate the battlefield indefinitely.
Expending spiritual energy even alleviated physical fatigue, and he still had three mental energy potions in reserve.
His only concern was prolonged absorption and usage risking bodily mutation. But Lin Ye followed his own evolution path, performing just two daily energy cycles - far below his actual capacity.
Merely absorbing energy for combat without intentional mutation meant he could fight all day.
This demonstrated the advantage of a personalized evolution path - systematically strengthening every body part with spiritual energy had greatly enhanced his mutation resistance.
While Lin Ye danced across the battlefield, a gray-winged, corpulent brain bug stealthily approached behind spike-shelled bug cover. Several equally sneaky insects accompanied it.
Lin Ye was gradually adapting to the instantaneous acceleration from speed runes. Initially, he could only accelerate linearly like a thrown stone, unable to change direction.
Now accustomed to acceleration, his thinking speed matched the pace with mental energy's assistance.
He began attempting mid-acceleration direction changes, even altering trajectories multiple times within a single burst.
Crimson blade arcs zigzagged across the battlefield, leaving chaotic trails flanked by insect remains shredded by violent energy, creating multicolored stains along the paths.
A first-rank subterranean mawed worm suddenly erupted beneath him, gaping jaws snapping at Lin Ye.
Multiple first-rank acid-spitters sprayed concentrated spiritual acid to block escape routes.
A first-rank brain bug waved neural filaments, attempting mental interference from afar.
Dozens of first-rank spike-shelled bugs closed in from all sides, preparing to overwhelm Lin Ye through sheer numbers.
The mental attack proved ineffective. Facing the worm's imminent bite, Lin Ye accelerated instead of stopping, slipping between jagged teeth to enter its body before the jaws clamped shut.
Digestive fluids capable of dissolving stone splashed against his shield, steadily draining its energy.
"Sever!"
Activating the Severing rune, Lin Ye slashed at the worm's incredibly tough digestive chamber wall. With an energy surge, Red Blade barely tore an opening.
Normally, first-rank creatures trapped inside a worm's digestive organ - its mutation organ - couldn't escape gradual dissolution.
Bursting free, Lin Ye found himself surrounded by first-rank spike-shelled bugs. Allies had been scattered, leaving him without support.
Despite being completely encircled, Lin Ye remained calm. He casually pushed aside a stabbing limb and retrieved an energy drink from his pack, taking a refreshing sip.
Compared to the tasteless energy bars, the organization's beverages were delightfully sweet and sour with a cool aftertaste.
Dodging another acid spray, Lin Ye completed the final stroke of his large-scale Severing rune when enough insects entered range.
Since that supermarket slash, he'd contemplated area attacks. Early in the battle, attempts to manipulate energy against the horde failed.
If the supermarket was a calm puddle, this battlefield was a raging ocean - his strength could only create ripples, not waves.
So he began inscribing a massive Severing rune across the battlefield, adding strokes with each movement. Dead insects became spiritual ink, providing ample energy.
This rune had taken considerable time.
Now, with the final stroke completed and blade swung, the massive Severing rune activated.
Using the spiritual energy blade as conduit, the rune gathered all nearby energy into the blade to execute its severing function.
Vast energies attached to the blade, incorporating more free-floating energy to form a conceptual wave of severing force that scoured all life before Lin Ye.
From above, one could see entire swaths of insects erased from the plains. A red-and-green wave propagated into the distance until finally dissipating.
For a moment, the entire battlefield seemed to pause in silence. Even the brainless insects instinctively retreated from Lin Ye's position.
