Stepping out of the alley, Lin Ye stood outside a three-story abandoned building. This was the black market stronghold of those gang members.
A large number of gang members aimed their weapons at Lin Ye from the windows. A burly man looked down at Lin Ye from the third floor and shouted loudly:
“Are you from the Precinct? I know quite a few friends there. Could there be some misunderstanding?”
“Oh? Then do you know the director of the Precinct?”
Lin Ye scanned each window, showing an ambiguous smile.
“Of course, we’ve drunk together.”
The burly man said without hesitation.
“How come I don’t remember that?”
Activating the speed rune on his pant leg, Lin Ye instantly dashed into the abandoned building.
The gang members hurriedly fired, but all the bullets were left behind Lin Ye’s swift movements.
Using spiritual power to sense the surroundings without needing to get close, Lin Ye could kill enemies through walls. Gunshots echoed continuously as enemies fell one after another.
In the end, only the burly man was left alive.
He was a Second-Level Spiritual Energy User, but that was not why he survived.
“It’s much better now. I don’t like looking up to talk to people, and I especially don’t like shouting.”
Lin Ye walked towards the burly man holding his rifle. According to the files, this man was Frank the Rat, the black market manager, known for his insider information. This abandoned building was his den.
“You’re the new director of the Precinct? Is there anything you need me to do?”
Lin Ye had just killed all of Frank’s subordinates, but Frank had no intention of avenging them. He only wanted to survive now.
“No, I’m here to deal with what’s in that room behind you. Dealing with you guys is just a side matter.”
Out of caution, Lin Ye sensed Frank’s vital points, ready to strike at any moment.
“I know a few similar locations. If you spare my life, I’ll tell you everything I know.”
Frank held onto the item he was desperately clutching. He was terrified of Lin Ye’s killing ability. Even if Lin Ye was only a First-Level Spiritual Energy User, a washed-up junkie like Frank who relied on potions wasn’t a match.
“I know where the other locations are. With so many people missing, there aren’t many places nearby suitable for holding the rituals.”
Suddenly, Lin Ye drew out Red Blade and severed Frank’s right arm. The two were so close that Frank didn’t even have time to react.
“Ahhhhh!”
Frank let out a miserable scream. Instinctively, he tried to use the thing in his right hand but realized his right hand was gone.
Lin Ye picked up a sphere that rolled from Frank’s right hand. It resembled a grenade, with intense spiritual energy fluctuations inside. Its power should be considerable.
“Not bad. Now you can die.”
Lin Ye had sensed this thing earlier. To prevent failing to kill Frank with one shot, he had deliberately closed the distance.
“Wait!”
Before Frank could finish speaking, Lin Ye slashed him to death.
At this close range, Frank couldn’t possibly react.
After dealing with the flesh and blood tree in the room, Lin Ye cleaned up the battlefield and replenished some weapons and ammunition before leaving the abandoned building.
Back in the sports car, Lin Ye felt a suffocating atmosphere. The entire city was enveloped in it, making breathing difficult.
“Have they reacted yet? Well, two nodes have been destroyed. Even the dullest would react now.”
Lin Ye used Nora’s communicator to send the remaining node locations to Grace and said to her:
“The plan has changed. Let the Precinct personnel destroy these nodes. Tell them that if they can’t destroy the nodes, the entire city will be destroyed. Let them decide whether to fulfill their duties.”
“What? The city will be destroyed?!”
Grace was startled.
“Why do you think they sent me here at this time?”
Lin Ye said calmly.
“So just destroying these nodes can stop the city’s destruction?”
Grace confirmed.
“Mm, leave the rest to me. I guarantee it.”
Lin Ye looked at Nora and then said:
“Go to that church in the outskirts.”
Perhaps because of some inexplicable ritual feeling, these cultists always liked to set ritual locations near churches.
“Yes, sir.”
Nora was very worried about the city’s safety and whether her colleagues could handle the ritual nodes, but she had more important work to do now.
The sports car sped towards the church, its engine roaring loudly.
“Stop.”
Just as they were about to cross a river bridge, Lin Ye suddenly spoke.
Nora hurriedly stopped the car at the bridgehead and looked at Lin Ye with suspicion.
“This is the only way through. If I were the enemy, I’d ambush here.”
Earlier, he had felt uneasy. After the car stopped, that feeling of unease gradually faded away.
Lin Ye took out a spiritual energy sniper rifle and used the scope to search for the enemy’s position.
The sniper scope could scan spiritual energy concentration points. Soon, Lin Ye found the target in the woods on the opposite riverbank.
Bang!
The bullet easily shattered the enemy’s spiritual energy shield and smashed his head. Bullets with this power couldn’t be stopped by even Lin Ye’s mutated spiritual energy shield after a few hits.
Bang!
Bang!
The enemies began to scatter and flee, but the deadly gunfire not only didn’t stop but increased in frequency.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Each bullet took down one enemy. Lin Ye quickly emptied one magazine.
By the time Lin Ye reloaded, the enemies had all fled.
“Let’s go.”
Lin Ye returned to the sports car. Nora hit the accelerator and continued rushing towards the church.
…………………
“They failed. The other side was experienced and sniped eight cultists directly from the opposite riverbank.”
Father Matthew said calmly.
“I told you not to kill that director. The Precinct is indeed seriously corrupt, but it’s still the strongest violent agency in the entire Federation. The headquarters is full of monsters. This new director was probably sent by headquarters. He came and destroyed the two most important ritual nodes. Do you know how long I struggled for those two nodes?”
Ethan was furious. Mr. Gold and the Rat were subordinates he had painstakingly developed, and now they were all gone.
The enemy appeared too suddenly. There was no news from the bureau. Otherwise, Ethan would have plenty of ways to deal with a new director.
“That old guy was too troublesome. He had to be killed. I admit the new director has some tricks, but he’s just a First-Level Spiritual Energy User, nothing to fear. The important thing is the ritual nodes. I need you to set up several new simple nodes to maintain the ritual.”
Father Matthew remained calm. He planned to scale down the ritual and only harvest half the city’s lives.
“That’s easy to say, but where am I supposed to get so many living people to make simple nodes?”
Ethan couldn’t follow his cultist companion’s logic at all. He was already preparing to run, yet the other side still wanted to continue the ritual.
“Aren’t there still some cultists? I’ll have them cooperate with you.”
Father Matthew said matter-of-factly.
“…Aren’t they your church’s cultists?”
Even Ethan wouldn’t use his own subordinates as sacrifices.
“That’s the purpose of the lambs.”
