Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator-Chapter 83: Library

Chapter 83

"There are so many interesting books in the library, though some are quite dangerous. It's best to consult the librarian before reading them."
"The patients here are all talented individuals with witty conversations and artistic performances. You can chat with them, though the special ward area in the North Building houses extremely dangerous patients. Their very existence defines danger, regardless of free will, so it's best not to approach those ward doors. Of course, Ward 419 is an exception - you should visit the princess when you have time."
"You can also learn patient management techniques from staff members, like making various injections from the head nurse. That old woman is particularly skilled at preparing medications."
"The underground church is fascinating too. Priest Kristin worships multiple deities and excels at divine possession rituals. You can even communicate with gods through him. Your friend often goes there for confession."
Mia spoke rapidly like a tour guide introducing attractions.
"How is Miles doing now?"
Through Mia's introduction, Lin Ye gained some understanding of the mental hospital, finding many things that intrigued him.
"He's doing well. He's adapted much better than 'Kevin' and is almost completely integrated here."
Mia said meaningfully.
"You know about 'Kevin'?"
This was Lin Ye's first time establishing a simulated shelter and he wasn't aware of Kevin's situation in his absence.
"Of course. This is a mental hospital after all. Your spirits are completely different - any normal person could tell at a glance."
Mia stared into Lin Ye's eyes as if trying to see through them to the real Lin Ye back at the shelter.
"I hope Kevin can adapt soon."
If Kevin couldn't adjust, Lin Ye wasn't sure how it might affect the shelter.
"He will adapt."
Mia declared firmly.
After chatting for a while, Mia disappeared.
Lin Ye decided to visit the library for some reading.
The library was on the third floor of the main building, while staff quarters were on the first floor. Since Kevin had a map of the mental hospital given by the head nurse, Lin Ye easily found the library.
The library was empty - patients here apparently didn't enjoy reading.
Lin Ye couldn't find the librarian Mia mentioned. The library had over a dozen large bookshelves filled with various books, many related to mental topics. Lin Ye randomly picked an interesting book and found a seat to read.
The title was "Ego, Hotpot, Barbecue and Cold Noodles."
Lin Ye read attentively, taking two hours to finish.
"Interesting?"
The speaker was a creature with an octopus head - at least that's how Lin Ye perceived it.
"Very interesting. So much so that I'd like to experience amnesia just to read it again fresh."
Lin Ye was in good spirits, having not felt this relaxed in a long time. He planned to return in the afternoon - leisurely afternoons were better suited for reading.
It would be even better with a drink to savor slowly.
As this thought occurred, an orange-colored liquid appeared beside his hand.
Somewhat like orange juice.
"I'm the librarian here. You can call me Bob."
Bob glanced at the glass but said nothing.
"I'm Lin Ye. Bob, could you recommend some safe but interesting books?"
Lin Ye took a sip from the glass - indeed orange juice.
"Certainly. It's been a long time since anyone came here to read."
Bob selected a book from the shelf and handed it to Lin Ye - he rarely made recommendations.
Lin Ye took the book and read the title: "Salted Fish and the World's Master."
Though less appealing than the previous title, Lin Ye still read it seriously.
While reading, Lin Ye's Seed of Spirit absorbed some kind of nourishment and grew slowly. The Seed would comprehensively strengthen his spiritual energy, making this growth highly significant.
Even disregarding that, Lin Ye genuinely enjoyed the books here.
Three hours later, Lin Ye finished the last page.
"How was it?"
Bob asked.
"Excellent, especially the part where the salted fish gets eaten - that could be considered abstract art."
Lin Ye downed his fifth glass of orange juice in one gulp. He considered offering Bob one but thought better of it, not even knowing the juice's ingredients.
"That part was good, but I preferred the ending."
Bob happily discussed the book's contents with Lin Ye, but pleasant times never last. Since he needed to harvest spiritual energy at the game room that afternoon, Lin Ye bid farewell to Bob and returned to the shelter.
The shelter simulation yielded no items this time, but the growth of his Seed of Spirit was more important to Lin Ye.
'I'll visit every other day. Can't stop the simulation missions either.'
Lin Ye poured himself another glass of orange juice. The bottle's contents remained unchanged from when he left - neither increased nor decreased.
After finishing the juice, Lin Ye went to the game room for his daily cycle. Afterwards, he tried using low-grade nutrient solution with excellent results.
Back at the shelter, Lin Ye began studying the third-grade mutated heart. Though still quite active, it couldn't remain stored like this indefinitely.
Lin Ye planned to create a 'shell' to contain the heart.
With his inherited knowledge of mutation from the priest, this wasn't difficult.
Before dinner, Lin Ye successfully completed the heart containment project using flesh-plant materials.
A small dog-like creature hobbled continuously across the floor. Little Black followed curiously behind, occasionally biting the creature's tail to let it drag him along.
"Strangely adorable..."
As nighttime activity approached, Lin Ye fried himself some egg fried rice, poured another glass of orange juice, and opened the group chat while eating.
"Nighttime activity, activate."
"Hoping for another Station Mission today. Got a spiritual energy firearm yesterday but barely any ammo."
"I just want to scavenge in the Red Maze."
"Please don't let it be War Front today."
"No kidding, War Front's too dangerous. Bad luck means dying to stray bullets."
[Nighttime Activity Starting]
[Tonight's Activity: Maze Exploration]
[Will you join?]
[09:59]
"Joining."
"Great! Time for scavenging!"
"Fine, at least we won't die. There's still a chance for shelter upgrade blueprints in chests."
"Buying red keys."
"Same."
"Looking for special room keys."
...
In the final ten minutes, Lin Ye played with his brainless little dog - the first creature he'd ever mutated... if it could even be called a creature.

[Nighttime Activity Starting]
[3:59:59]
Lin Ye awoke on red flooring, surrounded by familiar red doors.
