Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator-Chapter 96: Rooftop Brawl

Chapter 96

The sky was gray.
Lin Ye lay on the school rooftop staring at the sky. He always felt like he had forgotten many things, but those things didn’t seem important enough to try to remember.
It was like after finishing a meal, feeling something stuck between his teeth, but when he touched it with his hand, there was nothing there.
The wind on the rooftop was gentle, the sky dim yet without coldness. Lin Ye felt weak in his limbs, a wave of fatigue washing over him, sapping his energy.
“You’re here, senior.”
Half a head came into Lin Ye’s view—shoulder-length light gray hair, pale gray eyes. It was his junior female schoolmate.
As for her name, Lin Ye couldn’t recall. This was normal; everyone had a few juniors whose names were blurry and unremembered.
“Here.”
Lin Ye was too lazy to think of what to say, so he just took a phrase from what she said as a reply.
“Senior, do you like ghost stories?”
The junior casually lay beside Lin Ye and asked.
“Yes.”
Lin Ye continued to give a perfunctory answer.
“I heard recently someone at school disappeared, but no one remembers who it was.”
The junior was completely indifferent to Lin Ye’s tone and pressed on with the topic.
“No one remembers how they disappeared?”
Lin Ye showed a flicker of interest and added two words.
“It’s not that no one remembers at all. Close people retain faint impressions, knowing the person once existed, but cannot recall details.”
Seeing Lin Ye become a bit more lively, the junior smiled.
“In that case, it’d be better if they disappeared completely.”
Lin Ye didn’t want to trouble others to look for him, but it was still better than disappearing and being forgotten.
“Would you be willing to disappear, senior?”
The junior suddenly asked.
“...No, I still have things unfinished.”
Actually, Lin Ye thought disappearing like that wouldn’t be so bad, but some kind of force stopped him from saying it out loud.
“What things?”
The junior asked.
“...I don’t know either.”
Lin Ye closed his eyes. Talking to the junior was mentally exhausting; all he wanted now was to rest.
“Then I won’t disturb your rest anymore, bye-bye.”
The junior smiled and left the rooftop.
“...Mm.”
Lin Ye replied weakly.
……………………
“Hey, Lin Ye, wake up.”
A rough male voice woke Lin Ye from his deep sleep.
Lin Ye opened his eyes and saw his roommate, Wei Chen.
Wei Chen was his only friend in this closed school, a spirited idiot full of energy.
“What’s up?”
The sky was darkening. Lin Ye had slept through the entire afternoon.
“Have you seen Xiao Xiao? I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find her!”
Wei Chen was sweating heavily, his face full of urgency.
Song Xiao Xiao was Wei Chen’s girlfriend. They had grown up together and somehow got together along the way.
“I slept all afternoon here, didn’t see anyone.”
After sleeping, Lin Ye’s state improved a lot, at least enough for normal communication.
“Don’t panic. When was the last time you saw her? Did she act strange? Say anything unusual?”
“I looked for her during the morning break. She was weird, saying strange things. She disappeared at noon, that’s why I’m so anxious!”
Wei Chen grabbed Lin Ye’s arm, speaking nervously.
“What strange things?”
Lin Ye’s murky eyes sharpened.
“She said her best friend disappeared. But I know all her friends and never heard of this one. She couldn’t even say the name. I thought she was just confused, so I didn’t take it seriously...”
Wei Chen deeply regretted not paying attention to his girlfriend’s words back then.
After hearing Wei Chen’s words, Lin Ye vaguely felt he had heard similar information before but couldn’t recall where.
“Since information is limited, let’s assume what Song Xiao Xiao said is true. She really had a friend who disappeared.
Now Song Xiao Xiao is missing too. There must be some connection between these two events.
Both disappeared, but there is a difference.
Song Xiao Xiao forgot her friend’s name, but we haven’t forgotten Song Xiao Xiao.
We are all on campus, and the events happened close in time. So the cause for their disappearances is likely the same.
Therefore, this is probably different stages of the same abnormal event.”
Lin Ye tried to deduce, but the more he thought, the worse his condition became.
“So Song Xiao Xiao is experiencing some abnormal event. She hasn’t disappeared completely, so there’s still a chance to save her. But if it drags on until tomorrow, who knows? We have to find her... before... she disappears completely.”
Lin Ye forced himself to resist the fatigue. If Wei Chen wasn’t his only friend, he would have already played dead by now.
“Where do we go?! I’ve searched everywhere she might have gone on campus! She wouldn’t have run outside, right?”
Hearing Lin Ye’s analysis, Wei Chen became even more anxious.
“There are several possibilities. Let’s assume her disappearance is related to that friend. Let’s check their dormitory first.”
Lin Ye bit his lip. He didn’t want to do anything right now—just wanted to get rid of this troublesome matter as soon as possible.
“Okay! I know which dorm she’s in!”
Wei Chen turned and led the way, but a group of students armed with weapons rushed onto the rooftop, blocking their path.
“Since this is the rooftop, just push him off, and it’ll all be over.”
A female student hiding at the back pointed loudly at Wei Chen.
Several students who looked like thugs charged at Wei Chen with sticks.
“What do you want to do!”
Wei Chen was quite strong, but four hands were harder than two fists. Soon he was smashed to the ground.
“Get that one down too. Don’t leave any hidden dangers!”
The female student then pointed at Lin Ye.
“Lin Ye! Run!”
Wei Chen grabbed the leg of one thug desperately, shouting.
Lin Ye scratched his head hard. He was almost ready to give up. As long as Wei Chen was pushed off, he wouldn’t have to find the other guy’s girlfriend.
Getting pushed off by these people wasn’t much; if he died, he wouldn’t have to worry about those troubles. But he still had unfinished business, so he couldn’t die yet.
Several thugs swung sticks at Lin Ye. Lin Ye forced himself to resist the fatigue, scanning each thug’s moves.
He didn’t know why, but he felt all these thugs were full of flaws.
Lin Ye faced the closest thug, dodging the wooden stick and stomping on his vital spot.
With the thug’s scream, Lin Ye grabbed his collar to block the attacks from the others behind.
Seeing one of their own hit, the other thugs hurriedly stopped attacking. Lin Ye seized the opportunity to move forward, taking the stick from thug number one and smashing it against the temple of the nearest thug.
Bang!
The thug immediately fainted and fell to the ground. Lin Ye’s right elbow trembled like a spring, and each tremor knocked down another student.
Finally, Lin Ye squatted before the female student who was scared stiff and slumped on the ground. Behind him lay a floor full of unconscious students.
“Ah, such a pain. I’m only asking once, tell me everything you know.”
