What a pity he had no choice; as the inheritor of the Ice Dragon bloodline, he was destined to walk amidst blades and grow in the spotlight. He couldn't afford any mistakes. He must be a model youth, a student representative.
"It's so cold!"
The young man with icy crystals adorning his cheeks exclaimed, then looked at the brightly lit university city not far away, his ice-blue vertical pupils showing a hint of envy.
He saw the tireless impoverished students in the classrooms and libraries. He could also hear the neighing of dragon beasts and the clash of swords and guns from the military academy next door. In the further industrial academy, there was a high-pitched mechanical roar, stimulating his eardrums.
In an era plagued by widespread night blindness and lacking adequate lighting conditions, nighttime entertainment was evidently extremely rare, at least for ordinary citizens. But in the university city, such a bustling scene lasted until at least ten in the evening before it gradually quieted down.
The university city, which was the culmination of his grandfather's efforts and gathered the wealth and elites of all the Continent's nations, was like a heart full of vitality, emitting blood filled with infinite possibilities, flowing to the Continent's countries, breathing life into this once gradually silent and unchanging world, ushering it into a new birth.
In the Federation's controlled areas, regardless of gender or age, everyone harbored immense anticipation for tomorrow and great longing for the future.
Because the Golden Law from the Immortal City was being promoted in this region, on this land, even those born into the poorest of circumstances had the chance to change their fate through their own effort and struggle.
It was precisely for this reason that Bai Ye did not see anything special about the fact that he came from a prestigious family. Instead, he envied the families of commoners. Otherwise, if it were like the old days, when the Nobles ruled everything and the commoners were not even as good as livestock, he would have to be out of his mind to envy them.
It was also due to the dissemination of the Golden Law that Bai Ye found a goal to strive for and a sense of purpose in existence. If such a beautiful Order could expand throughout the whole Continent, incorporating all its countries, what a wonderful world that would be.
Bai Ye looked forward to the arrival of that day, so he was willing to strive for it, even if the road ahead was extremely difficult, even if he needed to dedicate his entire life to it. Yet, all of this had meaning.
"What is the true Holy Dragon Realm really like?"
Although the young man had ideals, he was even more curious about the Holy Dragon Land described by the dragon-men from the Immortal City, a place where the Golden Law was fully executed, and a true Earthly Divine Kingdom had been established.
Gold and Firelight
Bai Ye looked up at the two moons in the night sky, one of which, slightly smaller, was surrounded by a layer of golden halo, emitting a rather cool light.
That was the Immortal City that descended thirty-nine years ago, where dragon-men, like Divine Envoys, rode meteors down from the heavens. They forcibly intervened and ended all ongoing conflicts across the Continent at the time and arrogantly declared war on all countries.
If you like war and want war, then we'll give you war, and it can continue until you can no longer go on!
This was something extremely enraging and bewildering. The confusion lay in the idea of such a power existing in the otherworld, and what was their purpose for forcibly ending wars? Was it to lead peace to descend?
What a naive and laughable notion. But when such things happened, it became infuriating, for these scaled and horned monsters utterly looked down on them. The dragon-men did not regard any country with any significance; hence, they even demanded the Continent's nations unite against and challenge them.
But the crux of the problem was that the dragon-men from the Immortal City possessed the power to match this arrogance. In the nine-year war, the dragon-men, with the aid of the Immortal City, dominated the skies and suppressed every nation on the Continent that attempted to instigate war.
In the nine-year war, even the most powerful nations were drained in this prolonged frontline, and even the most warlike Monarchs no longer wished to mobilize their armies.
Every deployment meant injury; every sortie meant death. No Monarch could endure the continued casualties of their elite battle groups. Training an elite soldier was counted in years.
An elite corps could require the collective resources of an entire nation, and when such a corps was destroyed, it signified national decline. Even if it could be rebuilt, it would be gravely weakened.
Thus, in the tenth year of the war, the nations of the Continent chose to submit and compromise with the dragon-men, submitted surrender letters, and acknowledged the dragon-men's rule and occupation of the Continent.
Because the rulers of the nations had realized that although the dragon-men possessed ambitions and desires no less than their strength, their numbers were too scarce to complete an actual occupation of any country, having to support agents instead.
But no one expected that the Dragon Descendant selected by the dragon-men from the Immortal City turned out to be such a difficult figure. Once he obtained power and rose to the Upper position, his first act was to vastly develop education, leveraging the military deterrence and shelter of the dragon-men.
Through the university city, he sought out and unearthed new talents, then used them as a foundation to build a Federation administrative system and establish the necessary armed forces.
If the Federation President thirty years ago was merely a titular position with no real power, then now the president was truly the Continent's overlord, whose words could decide a nation's rise or fall.
But such authority was nothing before the dragon-men, even Bai Ye knew that despite their family's current prominence, should the Immortal City disappear, his family would face a terrifying retaliation and liquidation, with all related being purged, and everything connected being accounted for.
However, the name Immortal City was not coined by the dragon-men in the sky but by the people of the Federation on the ground, or rather, it was their heartfelt earnest hope.
They wished that this city, floating in the sky, would best remain like the eternally present Sun and Moon in the heavens, never falling, never destroyed.
Because any sensible person knows that the Golden Law's descent and ability to be promoted and enacted was due to the Immortal City, not because of how wise and mighty the Federation President was.
"Your Highness!"
From the shadow behind the young man, a dim human silhouette silently emerged,
"It has been confirmed, the president of the Silver Brotherhood in the Army Officer Academy is a member of the Snake Worship Sect!"
"The Snake Worship Sect!"
Hearing the from the shadow behind him, the young man's expression immediately turned grim, with fury almost bursting forth in his eyes.
Since the descent of the Immortal City from the otherworld, various cults related to otherworldly deities also became active.
Aside from the native Divine faiths, many suddenly active outward deity belief systems were labeled as Evil God faiths by the dragon-men, being strictly prohibited and eligible for suppression and extermination by any means.
The Snake Worship Sect was one of them, and it was extremely rampant. The Federation also kept a close eye on this Evil God cult because, according to information from the dragon-men, there was a real Evil God behind this cult.
"What about the other members of the Silver Brotherhood? Are they also followers of the Snake Worship Sect?"
Bai Ye asked a rhetorical question because when the president was an Evil God follower, the members of the society he established were basically sentenced to death.
Even if they passed the screening and survived, their future was essentially ruined. With such a stain on their record, no organization with any confidentiality requirements would dare to keep them.
It was precisely for this reason that Bai Ye felt a pang of regret, as he had an impression of a few members in the Silver Brotherhood; they were all outstanding young people. However, the current Ovita University City lacked nothing more than young people like them.
Thus, once involved with an Evil God cult, even if one was clean, their future was bleak and without light.
This, perhaps, is fate!
