Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures-Chapter 1440: Bold Thoughts
At that moment, Harry was probably thinking about him and Ginny — things were quickly developing in the direction he had hoped for!
That night, after Evan and Elaine returned from visiting Harry, they heard from Hermione about the argument between Ginny and Dean…
“What did they row about?”
“I heard a bit. Dean was laughing about McLaggen hitting that Bludger at Harry.”
“And that’s what started the quarrel?”
“I guess so. Dean was on the pitch too, right? But he didn’t help. He just stood there watching McLaggen hit Ginny, Elaine, and Coote with the bat. I think that’s pretty awful. Their relationship must be over!”
“Harry will be happy,” said Evan.
“What?” Hermione asked sharply.
“When I went to visit Harry with Elaine just now, he spent half of the time asking about Ginny,” said Evan. “From what I can see, I think he likes her. How else do you explain all this?”
Of course, Harry had also been paying extra attention to Malfoy lately, and had been talking about him most of the time, but that wasn’t just liking, that was love!
Love was a higher level than liking.
“If that’s true, Ginny will be happy too. She’s had a crush on Harry for ages,” said Hermione. “Hmm, I should go talk to her…”
Evan didn’t know what Hermione said to Ginny, but the next day, when the three of them went to visit Harry and Ron, Ginny was back to her old self — blushing just from looking at Harry.
Harry wasn’t doing much better either. Judging by how the two of them were acting, there probably wouldn’t be any progress anytime soon!
In fact, Ginny was much more experienced than Harry in this matter, and was not usually this awkward, but once she met Harry, she quickly fell back to the state of a primary school student…
As expected, Harry was super interested in the whole Ginny and Dean breakup. Hermione deliberately talked a lot about it to test Harry’s reaction and kept dropping hints. With Ginny blushing non-stop right beside him, this was the perfect chance to confess. It absolutely would have worked. But Harry, stubborn as ever, shifted the topic to Quidditch — on the fast track to lifelong loneliness.
“I just don’t want my Quidditch team messed up again. You know, we are in a difficult situation now…”
Just then, Luna walked into the hospital wing, allowing Harry to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
“Hello, how are you recovering?”
“Not bad, Madam Pomfrey said Ron and I can be discharged tomorrow.” Harry replied hurriedly.
“Well, congratulations. I brought you something. …” said Luna, rummaging in her bag under everyone’s watchful gaze…
She thrust what appeared to be a green onion, a large spotted toadstool, and a considerable amount of what looked like cat litter on Ron’s bed. Ron wrinkled his nose instinctively.
“What’s this? A gift?” he asked.
Luna ignored him, and finally pulled out a rather grubby scroll of parchment that she handed to Evan.
“… I’ve been told to give you this.”
“It’s an invitation to Dumbledore’s class,” Evan said, glancing at the parchment and then turning to Harry. “Tomorrow night. He knows you’ll be discharged.”
“I met him at the entrance of Ravenclaw Tower, he seemed to know I was coming to visit you.” said Luna, while taking back her things.
“By the way, nice commentary last match,” said Ron to her. “I quite liked your style, especially that bit about ‘Loser’s Lurgy.’ “
Luna smiled vaguely. “You’re making fun of me, aren’t you? Everyone says I was dreadful.”
Evan felt that if Luna could focus on the game itself instead of telling those weird stories, it wouldn’t be so bad. She was still very humorous.
“No, I’m serious, Luna! I think your commentary was great,” said Ron earnestly. “I can’t remember enjoying commentary more! What is this, by the way?” he added, holding the onionlike object up to eye level.
“Oh, it’s a Gurdyroot,” she said, stuffing the cat litter and the toadstool back into her bag. “You can keep it if you like, I’ve got a few of them. They’re really excellent for warding off Gulping Plimpies.”
No one asked her what the Gulping Plimpies were, and why a Gurdyroot was needed to ward them off. Luna quickly said goodbye and left, leaving Ron chortling, still clutching the Gurdyroot.
“You know, she’s grown on me, Luna,” he said as soon as the door closed. “I know she’s insane, but she’s got a cute side, don’t you think?”
“Cute?”
“Just a figure of speech, that’s what I think,” said Ron.
“You’re not attracted to Luna, are you?”
Ron’s current mindset was starting to sound a bit worrying. Everyone knew he wanted to ditch Lavender, but Luna? That seemed… unlikely.
A bold thought, really. Luna was beautiful, and there was definitely something enchanting about her — but still… she really didn’t seem like Ron’s type.
“I actually think she’s pretty great — and yeah, really pretty too,” Ron didn’t deny it. “If I had the chan —”
He stopped mid-sentence, because Lavender Brown had just walked into the hospital wing. This time, Ron couldn’t pretend to be asleep.
Evan and Hermione exchanged a quick glance and immediately dragged Ginny out of the room, leaving Harry behind, watching them go longingly.
Then, he shoved his head under the covers as fast as he could — pretending to sleep!
Well… maybe also secretly celebrating the fact that Ginny and Dean had broken up. Losing the match didn’t feel quite so bad anymore…
The next morning, Ron and Harry were discharged from the hospital wing, but McLaggen had to stay in the school hospital for a long time.
It was said that his uncle, who worked at the Ministry of Magic, had even approached the Minister himself over the incident, demanding that Elaine be severely punished, but it was no use. Scrimgeour wasn’t about to risk provoking Caresius and the Slytherin vampire clan so easily. In the end, the whole matter was downplayed and quietly brushed aside.
Elaine got a night’s detention from Professor McGonagall, or more precisely, thirty-five minutes, before she was let out…
After that, it seemed she planned to take Evan’s advice and get revenge on McLaggen using wizarding methods.
The price of provoking Elaine was terrible, and Evan sincerely hoped McLaggen would survive long enough to graduate…
Regardless of these trivial matters, let’s get back to the main topic. At eight o’clock the next night, Evan and Harry arrived at Dumbledore’s office on time.
Evan intended to present the speech he had carefully prepared, about how they needed to speed up the search for the key to the secret treasure. Things couldn’t keep dragging on like this.
But things did not go as Evan had expected. That night, before he and Harry could knock on the door of the headmaster’s office, it was suddenly wrenched open from inside. There stood Professor Trelawney, looking utterly distraught…
