Chapter 70: Chapter 70: True mate theory
Aiden finally met Julian’s and Ashton’s gaze, the slight sting in his voice echoing the physical pain he’d inflicted on himself.
"Well, it’s not like I wanted to do this to myself," Aiden explained, gesturing vaguely at his swollen mouth. "I just kept on feeling so guilty that I let Zane kiss me. I didn’t even know when I damaged my lips to this extent. Even all my gums hurt from my brushing."
Julian frowned, utterly baffled by the confession. "Why on earth would you feel guilty? You’re single. Zane is single. So what’s there to feel guilty about?"
Aiden gave a helpless shrug. "I don’t know. I just kept feeling that me kissing Zane was betraying Ryker."
Ashton’s eyes widened in sheer surprise. He immediately moved back to sit right beside Aiden. "Aiden, are you crazy? I thought you said you were giving up on Ryker."
"Of course I am giving up," Aiden insisted. "But I was still feeling guilty, so what was I supposed to do?"
Julian’s voice was firm, a note of exasperation creeping in. "Maybe not damaging your lips to this extent, for a start! Aiden, since you’re giving up on him—let’s even forget about whether you’re giving up or not—even if you hadn’t given up on him, you two aren’t together right now. That means you aren’t betraying him or anything. So why on earth would you do this to yourself for a person that isn’t even your boyfriend? You guys are just normally acquainted, not something deep. Why did you do this to yourself?"
Aiden looked pleadingly at both Julian and Ashton. "I swear to God, you guys don’t understand where I’m coming from. I’m telling you, it was like every bone in my body—my soul, everything within me—was calling me a betrayer. I just kept feeling like I had betrayed Ryker. Even though my logical reasoning was telling me that I didn’t, and that it wasn’t my fault I was kissed, there was nothing I could do about it because my whole body was already telling me I was guilty. I know what I’m saying isn’t making sense to any of you, but that’s what happened."
Ashton frowned deeply. "How can that be? I’ve never heard of such a thing before in my life."
"I’m telling you," Aiden said simply. "If it hadn’t happened to me, I wouldn’t believe it either if someone told me something like that."
Aiden then looked at Julian and noticed he had gone quiet and was staring at him strangely. Frowning, Aiden asked, "What are you thinking about? You don’t believe me?"
Julian leaned forward, his expression serious. "It’s not that I don’t believe you. In fact, I actually do, and there’s only one reason I can think of, but I’m not sure about it."
"What is this reason?" Aiden asked, his curiosity piqued.
"That you’re Ryker’s true mate," Julian stated.
Ashton gasped, his eyes wide with surprise. "But that’s not possible! Ryker is a Dominant Alpha!"
Aiden looked at both of them, completely lost. "Hello, I don’t understand what you guys are saying. What’s a true mate?"
Julian patiently began to explain. "This is like a wolf thing. A true mate is a fated person the Moon Goddess destined to be another wolf’s, fated love. Though, quite to the contrary, I like to believe that we all have our fated person in this life; it just doesn’t show up like it does for the wolves."
Aiden nodded. "Okay, I understand that. But how do you conclude that I’m Ryker’s true mate?"
"Well, when a wolf finds his or her mate," Julian continued, "that wolf will only be able to think of that person. He or she would want to be with that person at all times. And when they complete their mating ritual, they will be linked to each other. Even a pain in the mate means the partner will also be able to feel the pain."
Aiden tilted his head. "Well, isn’t that a little bit extreme?"
Julian rolled his eyes. "You don’t say," he deadpanned, before continuing his explanation. "So, from the moment two people who are each other’s mates meet, they will start longing for the other person. Their body pushes them to come together and mark each other to be theirs. Even their wolves won’t be able to calm down and will only want the union with the other person. The only reason I thought you are Ryker’s true mate is because you told me you only met Ryker briefly and you fell in love with him, and even did your research and followed him here to our school, which is in the middle of nowhere, without getting scared of what you were getting yourself into."
Aiden frowned, dismissing the theory. "The reason I fell for Ryker at first sight was because Ryker saved me and moved my heart, not because of any mated attraction."
Julian challenged him. "Then can you explain why Ryker is then attracted to you?"
Aiden thought for a moment, then answered shamelessly, a hint of playful arrogance in his voice. "Well, I’m gorgeous."
Ashton burst into laughter. "Can you really not be that vain?"
"Well, that’s the truth," Aiden shrugged.
Julian tried to bring them back to the point. "Concentrate! You two aren’t listening to me. Okay, Aiden might really be Ryker’s true mate."
Ashton scoffed. "Julian, give it up, okay? It’s not possible. Ryker is a Dominant Alpha, and his mate can only be a Dominant Omega, which clearly doesn’t exist.
Besides, Aiden already said he’s giving up on Ryker."
Julian rolled his eyes and replied sarcastically, "Well, I can see how Aiden is giving up. I can see that. He is giving up so much that he wrecked his own lips out of a guilty conscience about betraying Ryker. What a way to give up."
Aiden rolled his eyes at Julian’s words before asking both of them, "What’s a Dominant Alpha and a Dominant Omega?"
Julian answered. "A Dominant Alpha is a type of Alpha that is rarely seen. In fact, they are so rare that the last one seen was about a thousand years ago. Dominant Alphas are even stronger than regular Alphas.
They are more powerful in every way, and even their wolves’ sizes are much bigger than a normal Alpha’s. Because of their immense strength, Dominant Alphas’ mates aren’t ordinary, either. They are called Dominant Omegas. They are as strong as a normal Alpha, even though they are Omegas, and their body, i mean their Wolf body is a bit bigger than a normal Alpha’s.
They are the only ones who can accept the process of Mating with a Dominant Alpha because they are strong on their own. The last time we saw a Dominant Omega in our supernatural world was also a thousand years ago. But now, a thousand years later, we’ve seen another Dominant Alpha, which is Ryker.
That’s why I don’t understand how Ryker’s family could just accept making Ryker Seraphina’s fiancé since Seraphina would never be able to accept Ryker’s Mating and might even die in the process. I first thought that it might be because Ryker and Seraphina love each other so much, which is why their family had no choice but to let the two of them be together. But with what we’ve seen and heard these last three days in this school, we all know that Ryker definitely doesn’t like Seraphina."
Ashton offered a thought. "Maybe they found a way to make Seraphina accept Ryker’s Mating and still survive the process. You never know."
Julian considered it. "Maybe," he conceded.
Aiden cut in. "So, what you’re telling me is that Ryker’s mate can only be a wolf?"
Julian nodded.
"Then I’m not Ryker’s mate," Aiden stated with finality. "I’m pretty sure that I’m a Witch, so I can’t also be a wolf, too. Like you know, even though I have three bloodlines, I can only manifest one at the end of the day, and the remaining two will act as a booster for the main bloodline that I manifest, which will make me the most powerful of that race.
And since the wolf race already has Ryker, who is very powerful and already at the highest tier of the wolves, then I can’t be a wolf. And the Fae race already has Zane, too. I know that Zane’s Fae bloodline purity isn’t normal, so I can’t be a Fae, which means I’m going to be a Witch then."
Ashton nodded in agreement. "Well, I accept Aiden’s reasoning, even though I’m still thinking that Aiden should be a Tribrid or else what’s the point of having the three bloodlines."
Julian rolled his eyes at the idea. "You can’t say you’re a witch only based on that. You need to have another reason why you believe that you’re a witch, or else I’m still rooting for the fact that you’re a wolf and definitely a Dominant Omega."
Aiden rolled his eyes back. "Have you forgotten about the part that a Dominant Omega is still below a Dominant Alpha? And I’m meant to be the most powerful of the race that I manifest their power, so I don’t think so. And besides..." Aiden suddenly stopped speaking.
Julian looked at him intently and asked, "Besides what?"
