Chapter 28: Chapter 28: I have an expensive wife
Lance didn’t answer Henry’s laugh.
He didn’t have the energy to fake anything.
He held the phone between his shoulder and ear as he poured the soup into a bowl, hands shaking slightly.
"...I was in the shower..." he lied.
It wasn’t even a good lie.
It just slipped out.
"Well.." Henry hummed, tone playful, "you sound like hell. Rough day?"
Lance closed his eyes.
Understatement of the century.
"Something like that.." he muttered.
Henry clicked his tongue sympathetically "I’ll be back soon. Gonna bury mum here in Canada and I just found out Hayden’s engaged, he brought his fiance around. I still can’t fathom how he bagged Sawyer Giovanni.."
-_-
Lance raised a brow, Hayden’s fiance was THE Sawyer Giovanni?! How?!! Compared to Henry, Hayden had fire looks but still to bag a beauty like Sawyer Giovanni, can only be a miracle.
"Sorry about your mum and congrats to Hayden."
Henry didn’t reply for a while as he stared at the family portrait, he didn’t tell Lance that they had already done the funeral and he was preparing to return to the States.
He knew Lance didn’t want to see him.
"She’s in a better place. Who am I to fight with death? I just wished I could have her around a little longer. She was my mother after all."
Lance sighed, he knew how much Henry loved his mother and he knew Henry must have cried his eyes out when she breathed her final breath.
"I’m here if you wanna talk. When you return I’ll also be here. Just don’t try to jump on me or I’ll punch you.."
-_-
"Haha, you really know how to lighten the mood Lance. Thank you, I feel rejuvenated."
The door creaked open as Hayden stepped into the room, he looked like he had something to say so Henry quickly ended the call.
"I gotta go, I’ll call you back.."
He didn’t wait for Lance to reply and ended the call.
He turned to Hayden, who stroked the ring on his finger slightly.
"Was that Lance? Haven’t seen the kid in a while.."
Henry nodded as he leaned back on the bed, his suitcase wide open on the bed.
Hayden eyed the suitcase slightly, he wasn’t surprised Henry was leaving so soon.
Mum had died and Lance was in the States. So there was no real reason for him to remain here.
"Wedding’s July, I hope you and Lance make it. You’re grown up, I can’t tell you how to handle your business. Just don’t do anything stupid and if you’re in trouble or need help don’t hesitate to ask me. That’s why I’m your older brother." Hayden watched Henry slightly, though their childhoods might be different, they had one thing in common.
They both loved their mother.
"Call me when you’re leaving Kiddo.." Hayden waved as he left the room, heading back to the living room where Sawyer waited for him.
He dropped the magazine, giving Hayden a small smile.
"How did it go?"
Hayden shook his head as he sat down next to Sawyer, pulling him into his arms.
Sawyer in turn rubbed his back softly.
"He’s leaving. He’ll probably be in the states by tomorrow. Either way he’s not spending more than a day here.."
Sawyer chuckled, could they blame Henry? Anyone with eyes could tell Henry’s heart wasn’t here, it was as though he had left it in the states.
"Well I wish him a safe trip. He’s all grown up there’s nothing much for you to do."
Henry nodded then snapped his fingers when he remembered something.
"Except go to his graduation, my baby brother will be a graduate soon. I’ll make sure I have my best suit ready, I doubt he’d want to see our father there, even I don’t want to see him. He’s a waste of time."
Sawyer patted his back as he laughed, he figured there was a reason why the father didn’t attend the funeral.
He was not NEEDED.
"Alright, you still have his graduation, his wedding, don’t worry your brother will always need you in his life just like I need you in mine. You’re my everything Hayden.."
Hayden smiled, Sawyer’s words making his insides warm. He lifted chin and gave him a long kiss on the cheek and then turn to the other to shower him with kisses.
They were in the their own world, laughing and giggling to each other when a loud bang made them freeze.
Hayden looked up to see Henry staring at them, a hint of disgust in his face.
"Get a room at least. Some of us don’t want to see our older brother make out.."
-_-
Hayden stood up as he walked up to Henry.
"You’ve always been impatient. Taking the night flight I guess. Call me when you arrive, I’ll send you money.." he said while ruffling Henry’s hair.
-_-
"I don’t need your money.." he said as he smacked Hayden’s hands away.
Which made Hayden laugh "Oh? You don’t need my money?" He crossed his arms then laughed again.
"So where are you going to get money from? Don’t tell me it’s from that tiny coffee shop? Your daily wages isn’t even enough to fuel your Chevrolet.."
-_-
Henry’s lips twitched as he grabbed his suitcase.
"I can fuel my own car. I have savings.."
Hayden laughed as he waved "10 million, that good enough? I have to save up for my wedding, I have an expensive wife.."
Henry shrugged his eyes finally landing on Sawyer, he still couldn’t see what he liked in his brother.
But they were happy, who was he to judge.
"I’ll manage it. Do better next month.."
-_-
Hayden laughed again, muttering a "call me when you arrive" in between.
Sawyer walked up to him, hugging himself. "You think he’d be fine?"
Hayden nodded, his brother had some issues but he was still a good kid. He just wasn’t patient enough that use the right methods.
But he believed Henry would learn from his mistakes soon.
