District E53.
A small group of high-level gods was cautiously moving through a wasteland of steel.
They were a group of relatively powerful high-level gods, capable of handling dozens of standard war machines individually. It was only when encountering specially modified large war machines that they faced genuine danger.
However, within these cities, there occasionally appeared an entity with terrifying combat power, almost nearing the power of a peak god. Originally twelve, their team was now down to ten, and in the face of such war machines, they could only choose to flee for their lives.
Of course, during this period, they roughly grasped the situation of this world and acquired quite a bit of valuable intelligence from the ruins.
Unlike many other gods who could only hide to survive, they could actively venture into cities to hunt for treasures. After all, the greater the risk, the greater the opportunity. Many war machines carried treasures, which, while not as good as the artifacts left by perfect creatures, were nonetheless useful.
Though they bore significant risks during this time, they also obtained many good things.
This was a new city they had just entered, but for some reason, they faced no attacks while inside.
Even though they proceeded with extreme caution, the senses of those war machines were sharp. They were seemingly ubiquitous, like sticky glue. Every time they lingered in a place for a little too long, a large group of war machines would follow the trail to them.
However, in this city, after more than half a day inside, they had yet to face even two or three waves of attacks. Even if they hadn't encountered any, their detectors should have picked up traces of war machine activity, yet this time there was nothing.
"Could this be a dead city?" The team was full of curiosity. They stepped out of the shadows and boldly walked the streets. Sometimes, excessive safety makes one question their own existence.
"Something's off, someone has been here before us!" Someone finally noticed something different. The traces left in the city were almost all fresh, even with some residual warmth.
Furthermore, places that seemed potentially valuable had signs of being rummaged through.
"Looks like someone beat us to it," said a red-haired god.
"Strange, even if someone came, could they have eliminated all the war machines in an entire city? How powerful must they be?"
"Indeed, based on the city's scale and level, there should be at least tens of thousands of Level One war machines, and possibly Level Threes and Fours as well; even a peak god couldn't destroy them all, right?"
"There is another possibility," another god suggested, "that maybe a Level Four war machine went berserk and swept clean all the city's war machines."
"Hahaha, maybe someone before us indeed got lucky."
All in all, although there was no gain, at least it was a safe place. In the Nine-story Tower, finding a safe space to recover was already something to ask for.
"Let's take a look, maybe we can still pick up something left over."
They boldly rummaged through the streets, but the person who had come before really hadn't left a single item behind.
Suddenly, everyone stopped. At an entrance on the other side of the city, strong energy signals appeared.
"Let's go check it out!"
...
"This..." The city walls, glowing with red lava, left them stunned.
A fierce battle had evidently just taken place here, the air thick with suffocating heat, the ground a scorched wasteland; the massive energy response came from this area.
The ground was littered with the remnants of thousands of war machines, likely half the city's war machines sacrificed in this area.
"They shouldn't have gone far." They exchanged looks; judging by the energy residue, the battle likely happened only four or five hours ago.
"Over there!" A god pointed in one direction, "There's a large energy response over that way, probably towards another city."
"Is someone besieging the city?"
"Who has such ability? It must be that the intelligent system of this world has malfunctioned for this to happen!"
"Guessing here is a waste of time, let's go see."
They quickly accelerated in that direction.
Though the distance between cities was great, for powerful gods, such distances were trivial. In about a dozen minutes, they arrived at the convergence of the energy.
"The war machines are really going mad?"
They saw at the city's gate, hundreds of thousands of war machines unleashing firepower on the city ahead, with hundreds of Level Three and Four war machines using their massive bodies to assault the city.
The city's war machines were resisting fiercely, but the overwhelming numerical gap meant appearing was a death sentence. Though the attacking war machines were continuously being damaged, the losses were negligible in comparison.
"This war...it's just too brutal." The terrifying waves made them realize, if they plunged into this war, they couldn't survive five seconds in the center!
"Who's commanding this battle? Is it true that a city's intelligent core malfunctioned?"
While these cities were destroyed, the intelligent cores were generally intact. Those war machines were operating on default program instructions to protect cities; for such an occurrence, the city's intelligent core must have failed.
"For us, this is an advantage, but oddly so. With this level of civilization, this shouldn't be happening."
"No way it got controlled by someone, right? How advanced must that technology be?"
...
"Second Battalion Commander, where's my Italian cannon? Bring it here!" Suddenly, a young but loud voice emerged from the attacking war machines, "This is taking too long. I'm out of patience. Just blow that wall up for me!"
"Look, there's someone there!"
At the rear, thousands of war machines formed a circle as if protecting something important in the center, and in the center was a human!
Four war machines carried something resembling a bed, topped with a parasol, upon which lay a young man wearing sunglasses, directing this siege.
Hundreds of large war machines came to the front, their imposing barrels slowly accumulating energy; the energy was so intense that it felt suffocating from kilometers away.
"Fire! Fire hard!"
"Today, I will sweep the Six Directions with you, sweeping across the Eight Desolates, all that remains in this world belongs to me!"
"Open fire!"
"Open fire!"
